Young and Wealthy

Since its foundation on 2017, Youth on the Move has been heartily working to contribute huge
improvements with the quality of lives and future of 270 socially and economically deprived young
people from Hackney and Haringey.
Youth on the Move was founded with the aims of enhancing the quality of lives of disadvantaged
teens aged 11-16 and provide them with the opportunities they couldn’t possibly access given their
current situation in the society. Poverty placed constraints on their family's ability to provide other
material resources as well as extra-curricular activities for them such as joining afterschool clubs
and developing in the arts sector, thus their children become more deprived in social, education and
economic aspect. They are not fully given on what they need to be able to holistically develop, to
learn and to grow.
YOTM was founded to fill those holes and gaps and enable such disadvantaged young people to
develop and grow despite their difficult circumstances. We want to give them the tools to
successfully cope with the hardships they face, so that their teenhood will shape them to thriving,
independent young adults.
Our therapeutic and extra-curricular activities ensure that even young people subjected to poverty
and its limitations have every chance to develop life and career skills so that they could embrace a
blossoming future with confidence. Our organization addresses the need of culturally-appropriate
afterschool activities for disadvantaged young people who are at risk of being socially excluded due
to impoverishment. Albeit being a relatively new organisation, the impactmof our work has become
far-spread and our waiting-lists are oversubscribed and our waiting-lists are oversubscribed.
To date, we have enabled 200 inner city young people on low income, many of whom are living in
over crowded housing and with few opportunities for constructive leisure opportunities, to have a
taste of the world outside, and also to develop their latent creative talents for their own benefit and
that of others. This was achieved through our annual Play Power project, a weekend away, exciting
offsite trips, and by providing counselling and therapy sessions. This helped ensure a safe transition
to secondary school, and contributed to a better and positive future for all of them.
YOTM is committed to promoting a supportive and inclusive culture for all of our employees,
volunteers and users. We aim to ensure that no one experiences less favourable treatment on the
grounds of race, colour, nationality, religion, ethnic or national origin, age, gender reassignment or
parental/marital status, sexual orientation or disability. By integrating individual strengths, we
maximize efficiency and creativity, and deliver greater service.
Recent questionnaire results convey the dire need for our projects. Amongst those participating,
95% of young people have 5 (or more) siblings and 63% have never attended after-school-clubs.
Results showed that 87% of participants felt that at YOTM their voice was heard for the first time.
92% reported feelings of empowerment and 89% said they now feel more confident.

a foundation for further study in business and finance-related disciplines. This qualification,
equivalent to a GCSE level, is an excellent alternative for those who cannot learn in a regular
classroom, or who need something different to the standard GCSE’s. The aim is to encourage the
young people to further their education in a subject that will help them in all areas in the future. We
want the young girls to feel confident about going into the vocational world once they leave
education, and develop into successful members of society.
They will learn skills such as: Public finance and the economy, including how these relate to: social,
political and cultural factors; political institutions and processes and impacts on individuals,
businesses and society. They will also learn financial management, including: personal financial
planning; budgeting and financial management tools for managing money; spending and borrowing.
Lastly, the young disadvantaged girls will learn about Employability, enterprise and business,
including how these relate to: business financial management; benefits to, and consequences for,
businesses, financial growth and budgeting for individuals and society.
We deliver 2 lessons per week to Year 10, which is split into 3 groups of 10 young people in each
group session, and 3 lessons to Year 11 which is split into 3 groups of 10 young people in each
group session, LiBF recommends 130 hours study in total. The outcome of the project will enable
the 60 disadvantaged YP to develop skills that will be advantageous in their personal lives and help
them break free from the vicious cycle of poverty, unemployment & low aspirations.
By providing them with an ATHE level 2 certificate in financial studies qualification in business and
finance, we are looking to get to the root and source of the problems- that so many of the young
people do not end up getting any qualifications for reasons of health, social and economic
deprivation, cultural requirements or ability, and therefore are not successful in the workforce. They
struggle to find jobs, and many do not have enough of an idea of how to budget in responsible
manner and be successful in business.
