Physical counts are performed to synchronize the physical
and system inventory and are required as a part of the
corporate policy or client requirements.
During the physical count process, the warehouse is closed
and no other activity is performed.
Count tasks are generated for all the locations in the
warehouse. The count tasks then performed using count
sheets or the Mobile Application.
A group of users perform the first level count tasks using
batch sheets generated. The data is then entered into the

Put away of Goods
Put-away is the process of taking products off
the receiving shipment and putting them into the
most appropriate location.
Put-away is the process of moving material
from the dock and transporting it to a
warehouse’s storage, replenishment, or pick
area.

Put away list and its need
The process commences when operators accept the
put-way task from the Enterprise Resource
Program(ERP) or Warehouse Management System
(WMS), and then scanning the relevant barcode of
goods to be put away.
If there is no barcode, then a manual entry can confirm
that the goods have been identified.
At this point the system will be directing the put-away
staff to deliver goods to the relevant storage location.
Once at the location, the operator will either scan the
relevant stock location barcode, or manually confirm
that the correct location has been found, then place the
goods into the slot before confirming that the put-away

⚫ Putaway always occurs into a
particular storage location.
⚫ This means that if a delivery item is relevant
for putaway, a storage location must be
entered in the delivery.
⚫ The goods are put away in the stock of
the storage location that is specified in the
delivery.
Storage location codes and its
application
A Location Storage Code indicates the
storage classification for a location.
Location storage code enables a warehouse to
store all items of a given storage profile
at the same location.
For example, inflammable items are stored
in locations equipped to handle fire
Storage location codes and its application
⚫ Scanning and bar codes reduces the delays associated
with data capturing, increase the accuracy of data
capturing and provide more detailed information of
where goods are in the process than manual data
capturing.

⚫ Scanning allows the operator to record the action into the

terminal, and the terminal automatically updates the
WMS.

⚫ The scanning system speeds up data collection and

reduces the need for written records

⚫ Communication between the scanner and WMS can be via:

A hand scanner connecting directly to the computer terminal

A portable scanner that stores data to a terminal when placed

in a docking station

A portable scanner communicating with a wireless system to

the WMS.

Wireless communication allows instructions & information to

be downloaded from WMS and displayed on the scanners or
terminals in vehicles.
