Sheet (6) Analysis and design of beams for bending

1- Draw the shear and bending moment diagrams for the beam and loading shown
and determine the maximum absolute value (a) of the shear, (b) of the bending
moment.

2- For the beam loading shown, determine the maximum normal stress on a
transverse section at C.

3- Draw the shear and bending moment diagrams for the beam and loading shown in
problem 2.

4- Draw the shear and bending moment diagrams for the beam and loading shown
and determine the maximum absolute value (a) of the shear, (b) of the bending
moment.

5- Draw the shear and bending moment diagrams for the beam and loading shown
and determine the maximum absolute value (a) of the shear, (b) of the bending
moment.

6- Assuming the upward reaction of the ground to be uniformly distributed, draw the
shear and bending moment diagrams for the beam AB and determine the
maximum value (a) of the shear, (b) of the bending moment.

7- The structure shown consists of a W250×167 rolled steel beam AB and of two
short members welded together and to the beam. (a) Draw the shear and bending
moment diagrams for the beam and the given loading. (b) Determine the
maximum normal stress in sections just to the left and just to the right of point D,
knowing that S = 2.08 × 106 mm3.
