Science and Its Importance

Q1) What Albert Einstein said.

A. The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking.

Q2) What is science?

A. The systematic study of the natural world through observations and experiments is known as science.
Science is broadly divided into two main groups, physical sciences and life sciences or biology. These groups
are further subdivided into different branches
Q3) How to science born?
A. The constant efforts to understand the working of nature, through centuries of careful observation and
analysis, has given birth to science and its various branches.

Science
a) Physical sciences (study of non-living things)
i. PHYSICS (study of matter, energy and their interactions).
ii. CHEMISTRY (study of the composition of matter and its properties)
iii. T GEOLOGY (study of the planet Earth)

b) Life sciences or Biology (study of living things)

i. BOTANY (study of plants)
ii. ZOOLOGY (study of animals)

Q) What is the origin of the science?

A. The word science has its origin in the Latin word dementia, meaning knowledge.

Q) What is the purpose of using the ‘scientific method’?

A. The systematic way to ask questions and find their answers through observations and experiments is
known as the scientific method. For your investigation to be fair, you must follow different steps in a
definite manner.

Q) What is Technology?
A. Technology deals with using scientific theories or principles to make things that can do useful Jobs for
us.

Q) What is a hypothesis?
A. A hypothesis is a probable solution to a problem.

Q) What is a theory?
A. A correct hypothesis becomes a theory.

Q) What is Physics?
A. The word physics comes from the Greek word physlkos meaning nature.
Physics is the branch of science that deals with the study of matter, energy and their interactions. We can
also say that physics is the branch of science concerned with how matter and energy relate to and affect
each other.
As the entire universe is made up of matter and energy, physics is considered as the most fundamental of
all the sciences.

Q) What are the branches of physics?

Mechanics (the study of the interactions between matter and the forces acting on it)
1. Acoustics (the study of sound)
2. Optics (the study of the behaviour of light)
3. Astronomy(the study of the. universe beyond the earth's atmosphere).
4. Thermodynamics (the study of heat and its interaction with energy and work)
5. Electromagnetism (the study of electricity and magnetism)
6. Nuclear physics (the study of atomic nuclei)

Q) What is the importance of physics?

A. Physics has played an important role in our day-to-day lives by building the foundation of modem
technology. The study of physics is important because of the following reasons:

1. Physics helps in expanding our knowledge of the fundamental laws that govern nature.

2. The basic understanding of physics and physical laws are required in understanding other important
subjects such as the earth, agriculture and chemical, biological and environmental sciences.

3. The understanding of the fundamental laws of nature contributes to new technological developments
which, in turn, improve the quality of our life.

Q) What major contributions of physics in various fields are given below:

A) Transportation: The development of different modes of transport, such as cars, buses, ships, trains and
aeroplanes, have been possible because of our understanding of the laws of mechanics in physics. All these
technological developments have considerably reduced our travelling time.

B) Electricity plays a vital role in our lives today. Fans, bulbs, televisions, refrigerators, computers, heaters,
washing machines, air conditioners and many other appliances are driven by electricity. Understanding the
principles of machines and the conversion of energy has led to the development of these appliances and
has made our life easy and comfortable.

Q). What role is played by physics in communications?

A. Radio, television, computer, the Internet and mobile phone have entirely changed the way we live our
lives. At the press of a few buttons, we are able to talk to people living in distant places and send them
messages. We are now also able to get detailed weather forecasts by using satellites and supercomputers.

Q). What role is played by physics in Space exploration?

A. Physics has played a great role in our understanding of the universe and the laws that govern it. With
the invention of telescopes, we have been able to study the distant stars and other heavenly bodies. With
the invention of rockets, we are now capable of launching different types of artificial satellites for
navigation, weather forecast, communications, etc.
In modern times, physics has played a crucial role in the development of space exploration. Besides these
fields, physics has also played a major role in agriculture, medicine, healthcare, defence and energy
requirements.

Q) What are the Harmful effects of science

A) In spite of the conveniences and comforts offered by science, scientific progress has also led to a
number of problems, such as pollution, climate change and the development of weapons of mass
destruction.
Science is neither good nor bad. It is in our hands to use it wisely to make the world a better places or to
use it foolishly to destroy what we have built up over centuries. The choice is ours! \

Q) Write about ALBERT EINSTEIN ?

Ans ALBERT EINSTEIN is widely regarded as one of the most influential scientists of all time. In 1905, when
he was only 26, Einstein published four of his most path-breaking research papers on the photoelectric
effect, Brownian motion, special relativity and mass energy equivalence. He was awarded the Nobel Prize
in 1921 for his work on the photoelectric effect. (1879-1955)
