(a) Identify the THREE expenditure items which fell the most in
urban residents’ consumption between 1995 and 2017. Calculate
the percentage changes respectively. (3 marks)

+ Firstly, the expenditure on food of urban residents fell


the most that it dropped by 21.5%.
+ Secondly, the expenditure on clothing also decreased
by 6.3%.
+ Lastly, the expenditure on household facilities, articles
and services fell by 1.2%.
(b) Identify the THREE expenditure items which increased the
most in urban residents’ consumption between 1995 and 2017.
Calculate the percentage changes respectively. (3 marks)

+ Firstly, the expenditure on residence of urban residents


increased the most that it rose by 15.1%.
+ Secondly, the expenditure on transport and
communications also increased by 8.3%.
+ Lastly the expenditure on healthcare and medical
services increased by 4.1%.
(c) Describe the changes in the consumption expenditure of rural
residents between 1995 and 2017. (5 marks)

+ Both the expenditure on food and clothing of rural residents


declined between 1995 and 2017. The proportion on
consumption dropped by 27.4% and 1.3% respectively.
+ In opposite, the expenditure on residence, transport and
communications and healthcare and medical services
increased between 1995 and 2017. The proportion on
consumption increased by 7.6%, 11.1% and 6.5%
respectively.
(d) Identify ONE similarity and ONE difference in the changes of
the consumption modes between urban and rural residents. (2
marks)
Similarity:
+ There was a large fall in the proportion of food in urban and rural residents’
consumption composition OR
+ There was an increase in the proportion of residence in urban and rural
residents’ consumption expenditure
Difference:
+ The consumption expenditure on household facilities, articles and services of
urban residents decreased while that of the rural residents increased OR

residents while the largest increase in expenditure for rural residents was
transport and communications
