Reasons for travel

Main issues for the travelling public

 Final version

The bar chart shows the percentage of Americans traveling for certain reasons, while the
pie chart illustrates the percentage of travel concerns in 2009.

In general, the reason most people choose to travel is for work. Besides, the main issue
that accounts for the largest percentage in the pie chart that people care about is the cost
of the trip.

First, in the bar chart, the percentage of Americans who travel for work is 49%, nearly
half. In contrast, the percentage of Americans traveling to visit friends or relatives is
extremely low, only 6%. Besides, ranking second in the reasons for traveling is personal
reasons, accounting for 19%. Although this number is not high, it occupies second place
only after work reasons. Next is the proportion of people in the US going out for shopping
and socializing or entertainment, accounting for 16% and 10%, respectively.

Next we come to the pie chart. What is easy to see here is that the issue that Americans
are most concerned about when going out or traveling is the cost of the trip, accounting
for the highest percentage compared to the remaining issues at 36%. In contrast, safety
issues account for only 19%, about half of the cost. Next, about 17% of people here are
concerned about aggressive drivers and 14% are concerned about traffic jams on the
highway. The remaining percentage of problems with access to public transport and
pedestrian space, in descending order, is 8% and 6%, respectively.
