The Earth
Definition Of Earth

The earth is the uh 3rd planet away from the sun and the
only planet (that we know of) to harbour and support
life, preferably the life of humans :)

It is made up of three main layers which are the crust,

mantle and the core

Your Welcome
Basic Movements Of The Earth
There are 2 basic movements of the earth, Revolution &
Rotation.

Rotation is the circular movement on an axis. The Earth

rotates from West to East and it takes 24 hours for the
Earth to rotate

Revolution refers the Earth’s orbital motion around the

Sun. The Earth takes 365¼ days to revolve around the
sun
Axis
-The axis is the fixed point in which the Earth rotates on.

-The invisible point that keeps the Earth fixed in place

Rotation
The earth takes about 24 hours to complete a full
rotation. 24 Hours = a day

What is the Difference?

The difference between the 2 is that when the Earth
rotates, it spins in a circular motion, while when the
Earth revolves it goes around the sun in a orbit
The Seasons
Winter

-North Pole is tilted away from the sun

-Both Poles do not get the same amount of sun
-North Pole gets extended periods of sunlight
-Starts Dec 21 and ends Mar 20

Spring

-During Spring, both poles receive equal amounts of sunlight, that is 12hrs
of day and 12hrs of night(also known as Equinox) -Begins
March 21 and ends June 20

Autumn

-This is the same as spring only difference is the dates

-It begins on Sept 20 and ends on Dec 20
-During Autumn, each pole receive the same amount of sunlight

During each season the Earth assumes different positions as it goes around
the sun
Rotation
When a side of the Earth is experiencing daylight that
simply means that the Earth is facing the sun. Since light
travels in a straight line, the side of the Earth that isn’t
facing the sun is experiencing night.
Climate Zones

Tropical- In this hot and humid zone, the average

temperatures are greater than 64°F(18°C) year-round and
there is more than 59 inches of precipitation each year

Temperate- In this zone, there is typically warm and

humid summers with thunderstorms and mild winters

Polar- In the polar climate zone, it is extremely cold even

in the summer, the temperatures here never go higher
then 50°F(10°C)
Solstice
Tice to the Sols I guess. Idr-

The time or date (twice each year) at which the sun reaches its maximum
or minimum declination, marked by the longest and shortest days (about
June 21 and December 22). - The internet

Equinox- The time or date (twice a year) at which the sun crosses the
celestial equator; when day and night are approximately equal length
(22nd of September and the 20th of March)

Leap Year
We get a leap year every 4 years because every year there is a quarter of a
day, so once you add those quarters of a day together you will get an extra
day or a whole day. In a normal year there are 365¼ days while in a leap
year there are 366 days
What is an Eclipse?
This occurs when one object block another object(the passing
of a celestial body between the sun and another object
temporarily blocking the sun’s light from reaching the other
object)

Solar Eclipse- A solar eclipse occurs when a portion of the

Earth is engulfed in a shadow cast by the Moon which fully or
partially blocks sunlight. This occurs when the Sun, Moon and
Earth are aligned.

Lunar Eclipse- A lunar eclipse is what occurs when the Moon

moves into the Earth's shadow/ When the Earth passes
between the Sun and the moon temporarily blocking the sun’s
light. This causes the shadow of the Earth to be cast on the
moon
Parts Of The Earth
➔ Inner Core- Earth's inner core is the innermost
geologic layer of the planet Earth.

➔ Outer Core- Earth's outer core is a fluid layer

about 2,400 km thick and composed of mostly
iron and nickel

➔ Mantle- A mantle is a layer inside a planetary

body bounded below by a core and above by a
crust

➔ Crust- Earth's crust is a thin shell on the outside of

Earth, accounting for less than 1% of Earth's
volume
