Assignment 1
Date: 18/10/2023
1 Convert the following equation in SI Units.
0.8 0.67 0.33
0.023G k C P
h= 0.2 0.47
D μ
where h= heat transfer coefficient, Btu/h ft2 °F
G = Mass velocity, lb/ft s
CP = heat capacity, Btu/lb °F
K = Thermal conductivity, Btu/h ft °F
D = Diameter, ft
µ = Viscosity, lb/ft s

2 Convert followings
1. 100 kg m /kgf s2 to lb. ft/lbf s2
2. 380 Btu/lb F to kJ/kg K
3. 75 kg/m s to gm/cm sec.
3 How much force in lbf is required to accelerate a mass of 13.3 lb at constant
acceleration of 1.2 ft/s2?
4 Horse race lengths are often measured in furlongs, where 8 furlongs is equivalent to
one mile. A fairly fast horse can run 9 furlongs in about 1 min 48 seconds. Compute
the speed of the horse in km/h.
