Please describe some of the challenges you faced in the last three

years of your work life and how you were able to overcome them.
At the height of the pandemic, when I was working with JPCH hospital, Delhi, we were virtually
reduced to a state of survival due to severe lack of medical supplies and absence of senior
consultants. Doctors and hospital staff were also testing positive for Covid, and we were pushed
to our limits by working 24 hours+ shifts. As a member of the Covid task force, I was not
prepared to accept the status quo. My coworkers and I rode in an oxygen delivery truck to meet
with the supplier directly. We pressed them for immediate restitution of supplies and threatened
them with coercive actions in case of trouble. It provided some relief and later authorities were
informed about the incident. As we navigated this crisis and forged our own course, new leaders
surfaced among us and I was happy to share some responsibility.
This incident taught me that pre-preparedness and acting promptly can help mitigate and
manage unforeseen situations.

As a Healthcare consultant for Himachal Eye Hospital, I was entrusted with overall patient
experience and expansion of the hospital's business.
Despite conducting operations for over a decade, the hospital was unable to increase profits.
Considering the limited resources at my disposal, I accepted this challenge. Active customer
listening helped me to gain a deeper understanding of our clients and identify our most critical
issues. By utilizing health checkup programs and social media, we were able to increase the
hospital's outreach and sensibilize the public about eye problems. By analyzing data on
admitted patients, OPD patients, and the number of operations, I was able to determine that our
scheduling of procedures contained a systematic flaw and that we were losing nearly 50% of
intended cases for follow-up. I successfully advocated my case to the hospital's director and
compelled immediate adjustments to be made to the OT schedule. This caused a 25% increase
in surgical procedures and significantly boosted the hospital's cash flow. With these funds, we
could acquire a brand-new Lasik machine, thereby augmenting our revenue and broadening the
range of services.

This experience taught me that obstacles are surmountable with a proactive mindset and a well-
defined strategy.

As a consultant with MEBS India, a large portion of our initiatives involve us taking over
operation of existing hospitals that are experiencing difficulties. In one such recent project, our
hospital did not improve despite our advice, and we determined that the hospital's previous
management was not complying with our recommendations. Despite multiple rounds of
conversations and assurances of compliance, nothing changed on the ground. We had to make
the difficult decision to let go of a few well-known individuals in management. It caused a
domino effect, and more employees turned against us, but in the long run, this served as a
springboard for further concrete measures toward the hospital's success, as our initiatives
began to yield results. We were able to set an example and demonstrate to other staff that the
proper methods work only with the right team and system synergy.
