Program Introduction and Application Guide
Introduction The Chinese Language Program serves to help students to improve Chinese language skills and to acquire
a better understanding of China. Curriculum is designed under the unit of one semester and the spring
on the curriculum
semester of 2023 will start around late February and will finish in late June, 2023. Each semester consists
of approximately 18 weeks. The exact date changes slightly year by year. Students will receive completion
certificate and transcript if meet the requirement of enrollment, examination and attendance when they
finish study. Qualified students may also apply to extend the program if to be approved.

There are three levels of courses ranging from elementary level, intermediate level and advanced level
with maximum 25 students for each level and 16 units of lecturing per week. The courses are taught by
Language Center of Tsinghua university(LCTU). In order to distinguish students’ Chinese proficiency
level carefully and accurately, LCTU will arrange a Chinese proficiency test at the beginning of the
semester. All the students are required to attend the test.

Breakdown of lecturing units of different levels is listed below.

Number of units in the form are weekly calculations and each unit equates 45 minutes of lecturing. In
addition to the compulsory courses of 12 units, 1-2 additional level-up courses as Business Chinese and
Chinese Grammar will be added for the advanced class.

Entrance to the elementary class is equivalent to HSK level 2 (including level 2) or less, and entry to the
intermediate class is equivalent to HSK level 3-4; entering the advanced class, HSK level is generally
above level 5 (including level 5). Candidates can apply for an upgrade after completing a semester of
courses, continue to study at an existing level, or complete the course.

Qualifications Applicants need to suffice the requirements as below:

(3) is willing to respect and follow local laws and regulations
(4) is currently following a bachelor program (or equivalent) or has obtained bachelor degree by
time of applying

It is strongly suggested to submit the initial application no later than May 10, to avoid possible delay caused by application deadline.

Documents to Highest academic diploma/certificate of enrollment: Final transcript is acceptable if it

dergraduate or graduate program, please submit enrollment certificate and academic
transcript. The academic diploma, transcript and enrollment certificate must be formal
documents from the university. All the documents must be in Chinese or English. If they
are in other languages, please provide the notarial translations in Chinese or English.
The passport name must be shown on all the documents. If admitted, you must submit
the original documents when you come to Tsinghua University for registration.

Personal statement and study plan


500-1000 words, can be written in either Chinese or English, mainly concentrate on
personal profile, motivation of studying CLP program and its link with your future plan

Transcript
official transcript must be submitted with official signature or stamp endorsed by cur-
rent/previous education institutions.

Information page of the passport page (with personal information and photo). If you
are already in Mainland China, please provide your valid Visa or Residence Permit as
well.

ID photo
It will be used as student ID photo if you are accepted. Photo requirement is shown in
the online application. Without meeting the requirement, the photo can’t be upload-
ed, or will be rejected, and the application can’t be considered complete.

If you are studying at another university in Mainland China, please submit a recom-
mendation letter issued by the International Students Office or the school of your host
university with their contact information.

Additional CLP program might require some of the candidates to go through on-line interviews; candidates need
to check application platform regularly and pay CLOSE attention to the registered email address in

CLP committee does NOT accept any type of applications that do not get registered into the applica-
tion system.

The applicant should check for application status, admission result, and student number (if has been
admitted) via the on-line application system. It takes time before the final admission result gets an-
nounced.
