Tessa: Hi, Lilly! What are you doing?
Lilly: Nothing much… I’m just watching videos on YouTube. What about you, Tessa?
Tessa: I’m trying to do the citizenship project about household chores.
Lilly: Oh, right, the Sweep and tidy up project. I’m almost finishing mine. It’s a fun activity!
Tessa: Oh, well… I’m not very keen on doing household chores and I really don’t need it, so... this assignment is a bit hard for
me… you know?
Lilly: You’re lucky to have Miss Clark, your housekeeper, but… don’t you even tidy up your bedroom or make your bed?
Tessa: Hmm… Not really… Actually, I’m calling you because I need your help. You’re used to helping your parents at home, right?
Lilly: Yes, we share chores. It’s a way to spend some more time together and cooperate with each other.
Tessa: Do you clean your house every day?
Lilly: Oh, no! Not a chance! We do it on Saturday and we even have an extra pair of hands: my brother is at home, too, so there
are no excuses! Everybody works.
Tessa: And what kind of chores do you do?
Lilly: I usually make my bed with clean sheets and then I dust the furniture and vacuum my bedroom. While I’m doing this, my
brother is taking care of his room, too, and after that we both clean the bathrooms and mop the floor.
Tessa: And that’s it? It seems pretty easy…
Lilly: Oh, no, no! That’s just the beginning because we vacuum the whole house while my mother is doing the laundry and my
father is cutting the grass or cooking lunch. Every now and then my mum checks on me and my brother’s work because we
often forget to clean behind some cupboards or under the carpets. Our vacuum cleaner isn’t smart enough! Shame on it!
Tessa: Oh, my gosh! I’m already tired… It seems hard work…
Lilly: Do you think so? There’s some more coming… Setting and clearing the table, loading the dishwasher and taking the rubbish
out are also part of the list… Oh, and washing my parents’ car, too, of course.
Tessa: Wow! What a Saturday! I guess there’s enough information for my project. You gave me lots of ideas! Thanks!
Lilly: No problem. And if you feel like helping one day, you’re welcome to come and give us a hand doing the ironing.

MY (FUTURE) HOME!
24th November 2022
Dear Future,
I’m Francesca, a 15-year-old Italian girl living in London, and I’m writing to tell you all about my
dream house!
5 I want to be an architect, so my dream house is an original, cosy home. It’s a wooden1 house, a
cottage in the countryside, near a river. It’s not far from London.
My dream house has a small garden with vegetables, fruit trees and a sports field. (My dog, Ion, likes
playing there, running after foxes.) It has got three bedrooms, but mine is the most special one:
a comfortable master bedroom with a smart TV and a home theatre system. Outside my bedroom,
10 there’s a wonderful place: a balcony where I relax, enjoy the views and listen to the birds sing. My
private bathroom has a whirlpool bath2, a huge mirror on the wall and a lamp. My study is a reading
space with lots of books and my designing desk. On the ground floor, there’s the dining/living room with
a fireplace, a sofa and lots of cushions to feel more comfortable enjoying TV shows and family
evenings. We have our Sunday meals, chat and play the piano there. Preparing those meals in our
15 extra size kitchen is one of our favourite family chores. My husband and I cook and our children set and
decorate the table.
Do you think this is over? No way! There’s a garage, an indoor swimming pool, a laundry room
and a games room, too. My dog has his own space downstairs, in the basement, too. He has got his
own toys and kennel there.
20 And that’s it! My dream home is the place where I live peacefully and happily with my loved ones.
See you soon (in 20 years’ time).
Love,
Francesca
