Teacher’s training - Callan 3rd Edition

What has changed?

1) Lesson check exercises:

They are located at the end of each lesson, on the student’s books. They are not
supposed to be done during the lesson. Teachers must remind the students to do
them every time they reach the end of a lesson in the book.

2) Revision test:
These are exercises that students must do on their Callan App and they will usually
cover 3 or 4 lessons.
Teachers must tell the students that a new test is available everytime they see it on
the new progress sheet:

3) Stage exams:
3.1) The stage exams are different. Read the attachment to learn how it’s supposed
to be given and corrected.
p.s. - We are going to correct the Quiz in the same way we are used to: each
correct answer is worth 1 mark and that’s it.

3.2) Students from stages 11&12 (both from the new and old editions) are going to
start taking stage exams.

4) Transition material:
The students will need a transition material to start using the new books.
For example: when they finish the old version of book 2, they will use the transition
material before starting the new version of book 3.
There are PDFs with the new work they need to learn during the transition.

● Here’s how a transition lesson will look like:

1- Revision
2- New work (transition material only)
3- Last dictation from the previous book

p.s. The new work given in the transition will be part of revision during the next
lessons

What’s new during the lessons?

1) Question practice
From stage 2 onwards, the first 2 minutes of every lesson should consist of students
asking one another questions. Choose around 3 students to ask their classmates
questions. The teacher must use the revision vocabulary to direct the questions. For
example: “Maria, ask João a question with the word rise”

2) Mock test (only for 3rd edition lessons)

A mock test will be given before the exam, to train the student and help them get
used to the new exam style

3) Special lesson
Brainstorm with the teachers to get ideas for each stage.

4) Revision day
Speaking practice: Teachers ask questions from the book and let the students try to
answer by themselves. Always encourage them to do it without help and allow them
to make some mistakes or give a different answer from the book. The goal is to give
them an opportunity to practice and feel comfortable doing it.

5) Q&A to self

First lesson back from holidays

1) Students must have their Callan apps installed

*If a student says that they don’t have space on their phone, tell them they can use
the app on their computer and then tell Bernardo their name.

2) Teach students how to use the method

3) Revision
The first 2 lessons will be only revision and reading. No new work
