Art and Science of Nursing

I am aware that the art of nursing is one of the fundamental ways of improving the

quality of care received by a patient. In my practice, I believe that I am adequately perfuming my

role using the art of nursing through effective communication, caring and compassion, as noted

by Lima et al. (2022). In practice, I ensure that I actively listen to my patient by paying attention

to every detail of their communication. I also pat them at the back or hold their hands when

talking to them, especially when talking to terminally ill patients. This often gives them hope

when they feel valued, thus improving their recovery process. in this case, I always utilize these

simple procedures to use the art of nursing in my practice.

I also employ the science of nursing in practice to provide my patients with relevant and

quality health care service. I understand that the science of nursing involves understanding the

disease process and pathophysiology before selecting a relevant strategy informed by nursing

expertise to improve patient outcomes, as explained by Oliveira et al. (2017). One way of

ensuring this is using evidence-based techniques. In my practice, I confirm that I am thorough

with my patients by performing effective, relevant assessments and diagnoses before choosing an

evidence-based practice that best fits the needs of the patients. Understanding the disease is often

effective in providing the patient with an appropriate treatment plan and care. On top of this, I

often try to understand the patient's needs beyond the current condition, including values and

beliefs, before incorporating them into the care plan.
