● In Kilimanjaro, the plant beds continue from the bottom of the mountain to the
top, showing the semi-arid shrubland of the plateau, the southern foot of the
highland, the thick forest, the open wilderness, and the moss colony.
Volcanic Activity of Mt. Kilimanjaro
● Mt. Kilimanjaro is a stratified volcano, consisting of several layers of
high, hard lava, tephra (deprecated volcanic ash), and volcanic ash.
Stratified volcanoes are characterized by steep sides and periodic
eruptions. Lava flowing from stratified volcanoes tend to become sticky
and harden before spreading far.
Mt. kilimanjaro’s environmental issue

-The regional climate has become drier last 150 years.

-That causes the mountain’s glaciers to shrink by almost

90% of their former extent.

-The drier climate is also the reason for an increase in

the frequency and intensity of wild fires in the upper
areas of kilimanjaro, affecting forests.
