ARSON CHEMICALS/INCENDIARY MATERIALS

I. Objective: To know identify flammable substances.

II. Materials:

1. Small pieces of wood soaked in the following liquids:

a. paint thinner
b. gasoline
c. used cooking oil
d. alcohol
e. kerosene
2. Long Bond, Pencil

III. Procedure:

Partially burn a small piece of wood soaked in turpentine and note the rate of burning, size of fire, color of
smoke and odor of smoke, color of flame. Repeat the procedure with materials b, c, d, e. Repeat using a piece of cloth.

IV. Observation:

Indicate the results obtained for the above procedures in the tabulation below.
