 Foreword

I am pleased to note that the students of Agriculture University are

not lagging behind in the Information Technology field. [Presently it
is the era of IT, smart phone and computers.] It is observed that various
technologies are used in the Agricultural field also. The students of
the Agricultural Universities must also have the knowledge of this
field which is going to be the integral part of the agriculture. The Vth
Deans Committee has rightly framed the syllabus of the Agriculture
Informatics that includes the basic knowledge required for the
Agricultural students.
The title of the book is ‘A Text Book on Agri-Informatics’
covering desired syllabus which is recommended by the committee.
The authors of the book are having teaching experience as well as
they are doing the various projects in the field of agriculture using
Information and Technology. The book covers various topics which
are very well explained with proper picture and the illustrations.
Though computer is technical subject, the authors have tried to
simplify the language of the book considering the background of the
students.
This book will surely be very useful to students for learning and
as well as to the faculty members to teach. The book seems to be
good source for the students of allied sciences of the Agricultural
Universities.
It is a great privilege for me to write foreword for this book written
by Er. A A. Deogirikar and Ms Sanchali Kshirsagar. I congratulate the
authors for their sincere efforts and hard work in bringing out such a
valuable publication.

Agriculture is the back-bone of the Indian economy. Indian farmers

are cultivating their farms in traditional way, but now a days farmers are
adopting new techniques and other’s experiences in their farm that’s why
“Green Revolution” was successful as perceived by Dr. M.S.
Swaminathan.
The State Agriculture Universities have a giant share in agricultural
development as well as economic and social upliftment of the farmers.
SAUs also play a vital role in nation building.
In view of agricultural syllabus set-up at National level, the authors
have prepared a good educational and knowledgeable literature for the
benefit of students. The effort of “Shri Rajlaxmi Prakashan” at this
juncture is really appreciated. Now, the present publisher has taken one
step ahead to publish the “Text books” of B.Sc. (Agri.) degree programme
as recommended and approved by V Deans’ committee.
It will be our pleasure to extend the text books to the students as per new
syllabi, semester-wise, not tough, but in simple language too.
The present text book is prepared as per the lesson plans and in a lucid
language. I am very confident, from this text book students will be
benefitted in completion of their degree programme.

The book entitled “A Text Book of Agri – Informatics” has

been written to fulfill the need of the degree students of Agricultural
Universities of the country. The book is also useful for the preparation
of the JRF and CET exams.
The book has been written according to the Vth Deans Committee
recommendations for the syllabus of BSc Hons (Agriculture), BSc
Hons (Horticulture) and BSc Hons (Forestry). The book has covered
the topics according to the syllabus finalized by the MCAER, Pune.
The text is the book is well supported with the images wherever
needed.
While preparing the manuscript of the book, the authors have
got the constructive suggestions from their respective Head of the
Departments. The authors are very much thankful to Late S. B. Gite,
Associate Professor, Department of Agricultural Engineering, College
of Agriculture, Dapoli who sow the seed of preparing the manuscripts
of such book for the students of Agricultural Universities.

About Authors

Amit Ashokrao Deogirikar, (b. 1977) is B. Tech. (Ag-

ricultural Engineering) graduate acquired his M. E.
(FMPE) in 2001. He has 10 years of experience in the
field of Farm Machinery and Power and presently he is
working as Assistant Professor, Department of Agricul-
tural Engineering, Dr. B.S. Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth,
Dapoli. He has more than 25 internationally abstracted
scientific publications, more than 15 technical papers
and 01 bulletin and 01 booklet and 30 popular articles
on his credit.

Sanchali Kshirsagar, (b. 1978) is B. E. (Electronics

and Telecommunication) graduate acquired her M. E.
(Electronics and Telecommunication). She has more
than six years of corporate experience working on Em-
bedded System Design and Tools Development using
Eclipse as a platform. With a teaching experience of
more than five years under her belt she is currently
working as Assistant Professor in Usha Mittal Institute
of Technology, SNDT Women’s University. She has
guided more than fifteen graduate level projects. Her
specializations are in the area of Embedded System de-
sign, wireless network and Internet of Things.
