Reading
Read the passage and make a note of any new words you find

Have you ever seen something unreal or fantastical in a movie and New Words
wondered, “How do they do that?” When watching a Marvel movie,
have you wondered how characters like the Hulk and Thanos can
appear on screen with other, real actors? Well the reason these
wonderful images can appear in front of us is becauseof something
called Computer Generated Images or CGI for short. Directors have
been putting CGI into movies for a long time, and each year the
quality and detail gets better and better.

The first example of a computer-generated image in a movie was in

1973. The movie Westworld used computer (A) to show how the
world looks from the point of view of a robot. Perhaps the most
notable example of great early CGI comes from Steven Spielberg’s
Jurassic Park in 1993. Mixing both practical and digital effects
allowed this movie to still be remembered as one of the best
examples of using CGI well in a live-action movie.

The animators who create the CGI work tirelessly for weeks and
months slowly building the digital effects that will go into the newest
blockbuster movies. They start with a basic model, then they add
textures and finer details, and after that they fine tune the
movements and animations of their CGI creations. The process can
be very time-consuming. Often, the animators must work long hours
to make sure their effects are ready to be inserted into the newest
high-profile movies.
