They said Uber’s questionable performance appraisal system produced
performance ratings that led to male Uber employees getting better raises than
women.1 We will see how to

Potential Threats to Diversity

Stereotyping. Here someone ascribes specific behavioral traits to individuals based on their apparent
membership in a group: for example, “older people can’t work hard.”
Gender role stereotypes
The tendency to associate women with certain (frequently nonmanagerial) jobs.
Prejudice is a bias toward prejudging someone based on that person’s traits, as in “we won’t hire him
because he’s old.”
Discrimination is prejudice in action. It means taking specific actions toward or against the person
based on the person’s group.
Tokenism means a company appoints a small group of women or minorities to high-profile positions,
rather than more aggressively seeking full representation for that group.

Glass celling The term refers to the invisible barrier that separates women and minorities from top
management positions.

diversity’s potential benefits while minimizing its potential barriers.
• Provide strong leadership
• Assess the situation
• Provide diversity training and education.
