1. Introduction

1.1 Start-Up Chile (SUP)

Start-Up Chile (SUP), based at the innovation and entrepreneurship agency Corfo, is a public
business accelerator program created by the Chilean Government for high-potential tech
entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs are aiming to reach global markets (both domestic and foreign)
and view Chile as an asset to their businesses. Today, SUP is one of the leading accelerators in Latin
America, among the Top 10 globally, and one of the biggest and most diverse startup communities
in the world.

Our mission at SUP is to generate socio-economic impact through the support of innovative
technological ventures that allow sophistication and/or diversification of Chile's economic matrix. In
addition, we support the growth of a sustainable entrepreneurship ecosystem that facilitates the
connection between entrepreneurs, investors, companies, and organizations.

1.2 Goals of this Playbook

The goal of this playbook is to give you a general understanding of the opportunities and
requirements of SUP. Moreover, it outlines the process your startup will go through in the following
months. This program has two main pillars, the Acceleration Program and execution of the fund,
through the Grant Report Tracking Process. Bear in mind that these two pillars are parallel
processes, and that they don´t run on the same timeline. It is absolutely necessary to have an
in-depth understanding of the content.

1.3 Our Expectations of You as an Entrepreneur

Objective of the Growth program: Scale your operations and exponentially increase your
sales. You already found the product-market fit, you found a problem worth solving and there's a
defined market niche paying for your solution. Now it’s time to systematize your formula to replicate
it and scale to new markets, grow your team, and gain traction exponentially. Growth motto: Scale!

Start-Up Chile is part of a public initiative, this means we are ruled by Terms and Conditions. Having
them in mind is very important to understand which activities are mandatory and in which cases we
expect full participation and dedication from you. Also, we offer you an environment dedicated to
sharing your ideas, showing your commitment, and being an active member of the program. We
know, is a lot of work and information so do not hesitate to reach any member of the SUP team in
case you have a question.

During your program, you are required to commit to either fulfilling commercial goals or progressing
the current stage of development of your startup.

4
1.4 Profile of your generation

The BIG 6 Generation, composed of Build, Ignite and Growth programs, consists of 97 tech startups
from 18 countries. Some facts about this generation include:

2. Getting Ready for Start-Up Chile

2.1 Before you start

You already met your Business Developer (or BizDev). They are your official point of contact in SUP,
and your lighthouse in case you have any questions about the program. Remember that they also
have other tasks to accomplish, so please read the T&Cs before you reach out with a question.

COVID-19 restrictions, for the most part, have been lifted. However, the Ministry of Health has left
certain guidelines and recommendations we suggest you read over. For example, you must wear a
mask when visiting hospitals and clinics. There are no present restrictions on Start-Up Chile´s in
person activities, nonetheless, if you feel unwell, stay home.

For the in-person activities and some community activities, we’ll have them in the Start-Up Chile’s
Coworking space. The coworking space will be available for you and for 4 team members to use for
free during the program. This is an excellent place to meet other founders of your generation, other
SUP entrepreneurs, and SUP staff members.

In the calendar events descriptions, you’ll find if the activity is going to be [Online], [Hybrid], or
[In-person]. We’ll let you know which channel we’ll use for the different activities and meetings
during the program. The most common ones are Zoom and Google Meets. Make sure to have access
to at least those platforms so you don’t have any connection issues. Also, remember that you have
agreed to exclusive dedication to the startup and the development of business activities in
Chile.

5
2.2 Softlanding (for non-Chilean founders)
[Contact point: luis@startupchile.org]

For those of you who don’t live in Santiago (Chile), it is strongly advised for you to arrive in Chile a
few days before the program starts so you can sort out housing arrangements and start the
program without any worries. During your first weeks at Start-Up Chile (SUP), we will focus on the
different procedures that must be completed to acquire your Chilean ID card, open a bank account,
and receive program orientation. Our goal is that you have a smooth landing in Chile.

The fund is usually deposited 2-4 months after the beginning of the program, so make sure you
bring enough money for the first 2-4 months. If you are not already living in Chile, we would
recommend you consider expenses of at least USD 3,000 per month.

2.3 Housing and Accommodation

[Contact point: cristobal@startupchile.org]

There is a Landing Information Handbook made by Start-Up Chile participants where you will find
tips for your arrival. In case the team members don't present their salaries, they will be able to
present the housing costs, building fees, and basic services made in Chile, with a limit of
CLP$800.000 per month.

2.3.1 Temporary Accommodation

Check out the Landing Information Handbook made by Start-Up Chile participants where you will
find their best housing recommendations. In order to get your accommodation expenses approved
as part of your Start-Up Chile budget, you need to present a valid and original rental contract with
the owner of the apartment. If you stay in a hostel or hotel, you have to present a valid tax invoice
(in Chile this is called a “boleta” or “factura” or “factura de exportación”).

Remember that you must present the original documentation in order to get it approved, so keep
your receipts in a safe place. Remember that all expenses should be invoiced in the name of the
beneficiary.

2.3.2 Permanent Accommodation

There is a Landing Information Handbook made by Start-Up Chile participants where you will find
their best housing recommendations.

Please note that no commission rate would be reimbursable by Start-Up Chile. That includes
agencies, purchases, bank commission, currency exchanges, etc.

6
2.4 Chilean ID and Start-Up Chile Contract
[Contact point: luis@startupchile.org]

Once your temporary residence has been approved, you will visit the Civil Registry Office where you
will complete the necessary paperwork to obtain your Chilean identity card and identification
number called Rol Único Tributario (RUT).

Your Chilean identity card will be ready approximately three weeks after you have applied for it.
Please note that you will need to pick it up at the same office where you applied. The contracting
process will begin when you civil registration in Chile, therefore to complete the formalization of the
contract with CORFO you will need to have a RUT number.

The whole contract process could last approximately three weeks. At the end of that period, you will
receive an email notifying you that you are legally in the program (the period of the contract starts at
that point, so you must consider at least 12 months in Chile).

2.5 Bank Accounts

[Contact point: luis@startupchile.org]

For those who don’t have a Chilean bank account to receive the payments, during the first weeks of
the program the banks’ representatives are going to visit Start-Up Chile’s offices to allow you to open
an account with them. To open an account, please note that you will need to provide the following
documents: a copy of your Chilean ID card, a copy of your passport, and a copy of your Start-Up
Chile invitation letter.

3. Communication Channels

3.1 Staff - Who is who?

4. Contract and Subsidy

4.1 Start-Up Chile Subsidy Money

[Contact point: cristobal@startupchile.org;
luis@startupchile.org]

As you should know by now, Start-Up Chile is a public institution that branches from the Chilean
Government that supports startups with public resources. This money comes from the taxes of all
Chilean people, which is why we need to take really good care of it.

Start-Up Chile is regulated by national law. This is why you are required to sign a legal contract,
follow certain protocols, and file supporting documents necessary for the beneficiary (team
leader) to receive the subsidy. Also, remember that we ask for exclusive dedication to the startup
and to the development of business activities in Chile.

For that reason, the beneficiary will be required to show a full account of all the expenses that
you spend with the subsidy. This accountability includes all the Invoices of all the contractors that
you hire, or the services that you pay for, etc., and all the proof of payments (e.g. bank statements)
for these expenses. You can find detailed information in the Grant Report Tracking Guidelines, and if
you have any questions, you can always contact your Financial Executive (FE).

4.2 Start-Up Chile Grant Money [Contact point: cristobal@startupchile.org;

luis@startupchile.org]

Don’t worry! In order to break the financial process down, you will have guidelines to understand
what you can or cannot do in the program. You will have a Financial Training, in which your FE will
be clearing any doubts and explaining every detail concerning this process. The meeting will be
remote, and the link will be available in the Growth 6 Calendar.

4.2.1 Way to Get the Subsidy

Start-Up Chile pays you upfront. You will need an Insurance Policy in order to obtain these payments
upfront. You spend the money, then supporting documentation must be presented to validate the
expenses, to later get them approved.

Insurance: You will need an Insurance Policy in order to obtain the subsidy upfront. After signing
your contract, you will receive the documents necessary for the insurance process. We will do our
best to help you obtain the necessary insurance, but we are not responsible if you are rejected by
the insurance companies. You, the beneficiary, will have to pay for the insurance approximately 3
weeks after signing the contract with CORFO. This depends on the amount of the installments. The
insurance policy can be covered by the subsidy, if added to your budget.

10
Here’s an easy way to understand the process of the “upfront payment method”:

1. Landing process (seven missions)

2. Formalization of your contract
3. Payment of your insurance
4. Get the grant in your / your company's bank account
5. Get your work plan approved by your Biz Dev
6. Spend the grant according to your work plan
7. Present those expenses to your Financial Executive

Payment could be delivered in one or two installments. In the event that the subsidy is paid in two
installments, the remaining installments are paid after the expenses from the last installment are
approved, according to the contract. If the members do not meet a minimum set of
development goals, this next installment can be withheld and not paid at all.

5. Acceleration Program

5.1 Events
[Contact point: Sebastian.arias@startupchile.org]

Below are some of the main and mandatory events of the program. Remember to check your
calendar!

● Orientation Week: The first week of the program is full of activities that will help you better
understand how SUP works. The main topics reviewed include an explanation of the
acceleration program, the opportunity to connect with staff and other founders from the
generation, community activities, among others. This week includes:

● Orientation Day - Welcome to Start-Up Chile. Program activities, networks, and

tracking.
● Ice breaker - Get to know the other amazing cohort members!

● Intro Day: In this event you will have the opportunity to meet the acceleration team, present
your pitch, receive feedback, and most importantly, you will begin to make the first
connections with Partners, Alumni, and the Start-Up Chile team.

A few startups will be randomly selected at this event to present their pitch a cappella,
meaning presenting with no visual aids. So, you must come prepared with your 3 minute
pitch and be ready to present it (no slides) in front of the entire generation. In addition to
coming with the desire to meet and talk to many people. This is a mandatory activity for the
Team leader and due to capacity issues, only the team leader is invited to participate in this
activity (without other people from the team). So get ready!

The topics that you must show in your pitch are:

11
1. Problem/Market (What is the problem? Why does it exist? How big is the
opportunity? Market size)
2. Solution (Value proposition, How do you solve this problem? How does it work?
Differentiation, Secret Sauce, How innovative is your solution?)
3. Revenue Model (Clear revenue model, scalability)
4. Traction (Milestones, MVP built, Market validation, Key success metrics,
User/revenue growth, etc. If you are not selling, then share with us all the market
validation that you have)
5. Team (Competence & compatibility, What qualifies you to execute your project
successfully?)
6. What are your main goals for the Growth program?

● Partners Meetup: This day you will be introduced to Start-Up Chile Partners and have the
opportunity to connect. Also, you will get to know why it’s so important for them to be part
of our network, and more about their goal to help you achieve your milestones through the
program.

● SUP Advisors Meetup: Each startup will have 3 advisors sessions during the program and
each session will last one hour. Attendance to all Advisors Meetup sessions is mandatory
for the Team Leaders. Check more information about your Advisors Meetup in section 8.4.

● Growth Showcase: This will be your opportunity to showcase what your startup and team
can do!

● Program Closure: The last activity of your program, and welcome to Start-Up Chile’s Alumni
Network.

All events: You can check your calendar where you can find a list of the specific events and
meetings that you, as a team leader, should attend as mandatory activities (dates are subject to
change).

5.2 Acceleration Tracking

[Contact point: your BizDev]

In order for SUP to keep track of your growth and assist you in the best possible way, we have the
following mandatory tracking activities:

● S-Updates
● North Star Metric
● SUP Advisors Meetups
● Founders Meetups

12
5.2.1 S-Updates

S-Updates are short questionnaires that founders are required to complete and submit every
month. This information must be accurate and detailed, as it will be the basis of our tracking system.
Here you will be able to update metrics like sales, capital raised, time-to-market and others.

The S-Updates will be sent by email with a due date and it is mandatory to submit all the S-Updates
on time. It shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes. If you don’t submit the information on time you
will be warned for each day of delay.

Check this practical guide to dive deeper into our tracking tool.

NOTE: As a penalty, after 3 days of delay from the due date you will not have the possibility to
access our network connections (corporate networks, international networks, mentors network, etc).

5.2.2 North Star Metric

[Contact point:BizDev]

To measure your business progress during the acceleration program, the Team Leader will define a
specific metric in order to measure the progress of their business within the acceleration program.
As a reference, we recommend using the North Star Metric approach for setting a KPI and this will
be checked with the Business Developer at the beginning of the program (Initial Meeting).

This KPI must be linked to the progress of your business, but also must be directly related to one of
the following two categories of North Star Metrics:

a. Customer growth (e.g. paid users, number of subscribers, percentage of users who are paid)
b. Consumption Growth (e.g. Orders, Nights booked, Transactions)

Even if you haven't launched your product yet, you do not have zero traction. But if you don’t know
what kind of North Star Metric could track the impact of your work, talk with your Business
Developer in order to set the one that best fits with your startup. The North Star Metric must be
reported in the monthly S-Updates.

5.2.3 SUP Advisors Meetups

[Contact point:maca.gomez@startupchile.org]

We know how important the support of mentors and industry experts is to your startup. That’s why
we have prepared the Advisors Meetups to support your growth during the program. Advisors
Meetups formed by a group of experts that will pay special attention to your startup throughout the
acceleration program, they will be tracking your progress and helping you with any challenge that
you might have. The Advisors Meetups count with the participation of your BizDev and up to 3
top-tier Mentors specially selected for your startup.

How does it work? Each startup will have 3 Advisors Meetups during the program and you will
count with the support of 3 different mentors. Each session will last one hour and will take place
approximately every 2 months. Each Team Leader will receive a personal invitation with their specific
assigned date and time. Your BizDev will send you the instructions prior to each session. You can

13
also check it on your calendar. Attendance to all Advisors Meetups is mandatory for the Team
Leaders, but Co-Founders attendance is highly recommended.

5.2.4 SUP Founders Meetups

[Contact point:BizDev]

As a Growth participant, you’re now part of a unique network of founders going through similar
challenges in the scaling and expansion of your business. Founders Meetups are peer-to-peer
learning activities where Growth program founders will share challenges and advice with each other,
according to topics of interest of the group. In some instances a special guest speaker will be invited
to share their experience with the group.

How does it work? You’ll have 4 Founders Meetups during the program. Each Team Leader will
receive a personal invitation with their specific assigned date and time. Your BizDev will send you the
instructions prior to each session. You can also check in your calendar. Attendance to all Founders
Meetups is mandatory for the Team Leaders, but Co-Founders´ attendance is highly
recommended.

6. Grant Report Tracking

The grant you are receiving is from the Chilean Government. This money comes from the taxes of
all Chilean people, so that’s why we need to take really good care of it. Therefore, there are rules and
regulations that must be met to satisfy the Chilean Government. Those rules and regulations are:

● Start-Up Chile Legal Terms and Conditions of the Program

● Contract between yourself (Startup), and Start-Up Chile (CORFO)
● Grant Report Tracking Guidelines
● CORFO Financial Report Instructive
● Current Chilean legislation

6.1 Technical Tracking

[Contact point: Your BizDev]

The Overall Aim of Technical Tracking is the disclosure of the budget, which will translate into
your main expenses during the program. Since you have a period of time to execute the whole grant
that CORFO gives you, it is important to make sure that these expenses are within CORFO´s
guidelines and are presented with all the needed documentation.

● Initial Meeting: is the first instance of your tracking process, where your Business Developer
(BizDev) and your Financial Executive (FE) will ask you to present yourself, your team, and your
startup. Also, you will need to outline your commitments and expected results of the program.
Making sure you can understand the difference between your goals and your objectives.

14
Additionally, you will have to present your plan for expenses, and explain how this use of the
public funds during the execution of the project are aligned with your main objectives.

Structure:

● Staff presentation; the BizDev and FE will introduce themselves, and their role again
● Team leader presentation; the team leader introduces the team
● Initial diagnosis of the startup
● Goals and Objectives, presentation and discussion
● Main pains of the startup
● Budget strategy
● Questions and answers

The meeting will last no more than 60 minutes. Each Team Leader will receive a personal
invitation with the instructions and specific assigned date and time. As well as a presentation
with information that should be prepared for this meeting. On the other hand, keep in mind
that this meeting will be online and will appear on your Google Calendar with the link to a
Google Meet meeting.

Remember that this and other activities are mandatory to all Team Leaders. Nonetheless,
we recommend that if someone else is going to oversee this process, invite them to this
meeting as well.

● Technical Workshop: this is a mandatory meeting with all of your generation. The main
purpose being to teach you how to use each of the technical tracking tools, including the
WorkPlan and the Budget Lines Folders. For this instance you should bring your Budget filled
with your main expenses, so you can ask questions and get feedback from your BizDev. Also,
we will check your comprehension of the main technical concepts and the whole Grand Report
Tracking process.

● Technical Requests: they are the main contact point between you and your BizDev regarding
your technical approvals. Everytime you fulfill all the documentation for a new Budget Line,
you can ask for the approval of this new item any time you want through the typeform in your
work plan, and you will get feedback once a week.

● Technical Progress Check Meetings: they are mandatory meetings with your BizDev to see
your progress regarding your work plan. You will have the opportunity to correct any mistakes
in your work plan and increase your percentage of technical approvals.

During this process, you can schedule as many BizDev hours as you need, to clear all your doubts
about the technical process. Remember that the Initial meeting, progress check meetings, and the
Technical Workshop are mandatory, so it is very important to confirm your attendance with your
BizDev as soon as you receive the invitation through Google Calendar.

Before fulfilling a Technical Requests, the beneficiary must:

● Complete a new Budget Line
● Upload the proper technical request and all the documentation stated in column D if
needed, in the corresponding Folder in column E

15
● Fulfill the Technical Form
● If needed, please consult the Technical Tracking Guideline in your WorkPlan

The Technical Review Process:

● Present Work Plan
● Get approval of goals and objectives
● Fill out budget line with corresponding documentation in budget line folder
● Send Technical Approval Request of budget line
● Biz Dev reviews the request
● Biz Dev informs beneficiary if any changes are required or documentation / information is
missing
● Biz Dev gives technical approval in case of having all the necessary documents

Check the Technical Tracking Guideline, in which we have all of the important information that you
can check 24/7!

6.2 Financial Tracking

[Contact point:your Financial Executive]

Overall Aim of Financial Tracking: disclosure of project expenses (including receipts and legal tax
documents), providing explanation to the Financial Executive (FE). The expenses can only be
incurred from the date you sign your official contract with CORFO, until the official end date of
your contract, unless otherwise specified by your BizDev. Evidence is required to show proof of this
(bank statement, invoices, etc.), to be reviewed at a financial meeting. Each financial executive will
communicate their specific office hours slots, so you can save a date to clear any doubts.

Regarding your expenses, your FE is going to check the documentation related to the expenses that
were previously technically approved in your work plan. They’re your point of contact to clear doubts
about invoices, bank statements, or any other documentation that’s necessary to have a successful
financial process. Remember to keep track of any financial documentation linked to the execution of
the program, e.g your boarding passes from your flights coming to Chile, housing contracts,
payments related to your visa process, etc. We will ask for them later.

Every invoice needs to be addressed to the Beneficiary of the subsidy. Invoices addressed to
other individuals are not acceptable as part of the expenses filed for the grant. Remember to
keep your boarding passes from your flights coming to Chile, as this might be needed to be
presented in the financial meeting.

It is important to consider that the team leader and team members (that were included in the
application form), can present their salaries only if they have a Chilean RUT number. Remember
that the team members are different from the cofounders. The team members were included in
the application form and will also be included in the contract with CORFO.

Financial process important events:

● The Financial Training is a mandatory workshop to teach you how to use each of the
financial tracking tools, including the Expenditure Statement. Also, we will check the

16
comprehension of the financial concepts and the financial process in general. The objective
is to clear any doubts from a specific group of entrepreneurs, according to the portfolio of
each FE.

● The Financial Meeting is to monitor the progress of the financial tracking folder, so the FE
can give you feedback before the expenses report. It is a 1 on 1 mandatory meeting and the
objective is to avoid potential rejections during the expenses report. If it is necessary, the
financial executive will schedule an additional Financial Meeting, to prepare and,
potentially, pre-approve expenses from your financial folder.

● The Expenses Reports are the process of completing your Expenditure Statement by
uploading to your digital folders all the necessary documentation to have the financial
approval from your FE, and they are a mandatory activity. Each financial revision will
contribute to the approved expenses report that we present in CORFO. The financial
executive will schedule 2 Expenses Reports, as soon as your project ends the formalization
process.

During this process, you can schedule as many office hours as you need, to clear all your doubts
about the financial process. Remember that the financial training, financial meetings and the
expenses reports are mandatory, so it is very important to confirm your attendance with your FE
as soon as you receive the invitation through Google Calendar.

Prior to each Expenses Report, the beneficiary must:

1. Complete the Expenditure Statement

2. Upload all original payment and legal support documentation for the meeting. If you have a
hard copy of a document, please make a digital copy of it and save the original. We might
ask for that document
Note: all legal documents must comply with the Terms and Conditions of the Program. The
FE is going to send a shared folder to each team leader to upload the financial
documentation
3. If any documentation is missing, or not presented in the correct format (as provided by the
template), the FE will reject the review. If this happens, your FE will arrange an additional
revision to check the missing documentation, resulting in delayed financial payments or the
proper closure of your financial process

The Financial Review Process:

1. Expenses Report
2. FE reviews the presented documents
3. FE informs beneficiary if any changes are required or documentation / information is missing
4. FE gives the financial approval in case of having all the necessary documents.

Check your Financial Toolkit, in which we have all of the important information that you can check
24/7!

7. Knowledge & Training

We have tailored a set of learning and development activities to increase your strategic and technical
knowledge on how to build and grow a successful company.

7.1 Academy sessions

[Contact point: teresa@startupchile.org]

The Academy sessions consist of optional weekly sessions, workshops and talks. The sessions are
defined according to the general needs of early-stage startups And are divided into three types:

● Weekly sessions (optional)- Weekly sessions focused on reviewing topics to give you the
tools to develop your business. These sessions have a differentiated curriculum for the Build
and Ignite program, and will cover topics that every great entrepreneur must know.
As a Growth entrepreneur, you can have access to the Build and Ignite weekly academy
sessions and any member of the founding team can attend.

● SUP Talks (optional)- You will meet people who were once in your shoes, but from different
points of view. Learn through the experience of our network of partners: Mentors, Alumni,
Investors, Companies, and people close to our community.

● Spot sessions (optional)- Focused on reviewing more niche topics, but still necessary in the
construction and development of your business. These sessions have a more intimate
dynamic like a coffee meet up style.

Remember you can find all SUP Academies scheduled in your generation’s calendar and the
information regarding content, time, place, speaker, and more will be announced in the Weekly
Update Channel. Keep in mind that the majority of the academy sessions will be in person at our
Co-Work space. Stay tuned for any change in the schedule of the sessions.

7.2 SUP Library

[Contact point: teresa@startupchile.org]

The SUP Library is an important resource for you throughout the entire program. We regularly
update the SUP Library with actual and past academies, helpful links, videos, book suggestions, and
pitch tips, and many more tools to accelerate your business.

18
7.3 Office Hours
[Contact point: your BizDev]

Each startup can request individual 30-minute meetings with members of the Start-Up Chile team.
Every month, members of the Start-Up Chile staff will offer Office Hours for the startups. We invite
you to use this time to get to know the staff, tell us about your ideas, ask for advice, and clarify any
doubts that you have about the program. You can find the link to book an Office Hour in the section
Our Crew on our SUPpers Online site.

8. Networks & Resources

SUP encourages every entrepreneur to engage with as many networks as possible. Relationships
with corporations, mentors, investors, global partners, and alumni are essential when developing,
funding, and launching your product. In the following section, our different networks and the
connection process are described.

8.1 Corporate Network

[Contact point: carlos@startupchile.org]

To accomplish our goal of supporting startups and making them grow globally, it is really important
to connect them with their potential clients/partners at every stage of their development and help
them to receive timely feedback for validation or business opportunities.

This is why we have an amazing Corporate Network with more than 200 national and multinational
companies, and public organizations to give our startups access to the Chilean and Latin American
markets. In this section, you will find different opportunities to connect with our Corporate Network:

● Corporate Connections:
To connect with any member of the Corporate Network, you just need to fill out the
Connections Form. The focus of these connections is feedback because it opens a door
with the companies- it’s easy for them to say yes, and you have a good starting point. If
other opportunities appear, amazing! But remember to always start by asking for
feedback.

● Corporate Challenges:
Once a week challenges are launched in the Weekly Update channel. Here, you are
invited to apply to solve a real problem/pain declared by the company through the
solution your startup provides. After the applications, the companies select the startups
they want to meet with, to learn more about the proposed solutions. In case you get
selected, our Corporate Network Manager will make the connection between you and
the company.

19
In some cases, the Corporates will want to have a chance to see all the startups of
interest to them at the same time and place, and in that case, we will organize a Pitch
Session. In these instances, selected startups will have the chance to do a 3-minute
pitch in front of the Corporate representatives, and answer their questions. Then, the
Corporate decides with whom they want to keep in conversations.

Keep checking the Weekly Update, so you don't miss any of these amazing
opportunities!

● Corporate Talks:
To aid in the Open Innovation process inside the Corporates, we will be inviting
startups to do talks for them about specific technologies, methodologies, or about their
journey as entrepreneurs. We will invite startups to apply through the Weekly Update
channel, so keep an eye out, it's a good chance to showcase your startup!

● Corporate Showcase:
Events that aim to generate real connections between big companies and startups. On
one hand, we will have a group of members of our Corporate Network (10-15) that have
similar needs, and on the other hand, a group of startups (8-10) that could solve that
need or pain. Startups will have the opportunity to pitch in front of the Corporates and
also share in a roundtable the challenges, and opportunities that the startup-company
work may bring, exploring possible synergies.

We will host at least 2 of these events every year, and all startups are welcome to apply
to be a part of each event. We will notify the date and theme of the event in our Weekly
Update, don't miss out!

● Starter kit:
We put together some tools and tips, to help you make the most out of our Corporate
Network, you can check it out here!

8.2 Venture Finance

[Contact point: vicente@startupchile.org]

So you have good traction and a growing customer base. Now the goal is to turn that into a
predictable, repeatable, and scalable revenue stream. To do so, identifying the appropriate
growth-engines of your business, the distribution channels and the key partners, becomes
mandatory. As experience has shown, achieving that will require important amounts of money. If
your operations allow you to finance that growth, that is great news. If not, you will have to recourse
to external funding. There are multiple funding sources available, and we want to help you to
choose among them wisely.

We expect to help you with this by means of the following activities:

20
First, we will cover the most important aspects of the venture finance market through our Academy
sessions. These will be hosted by our Venture Finance Manager and experts from the ecosystem. By
leveraging their knowledge, you will be able to get into this particular asset class with the
appropriate tools to unlock their potential. To fully grasp this opportunity, make sure that you assist
and participate in all the relevant activities.

Second, we will provide you with a set of meaningful insights available in the SUPpers Online
platform and at the Library for you to visit (and we encourage you to do so) in order to support your
learning process, along with useful templates, and materials for you to take advantage of.

Third, during his office hours, our Venture Finance Manager will assist you in solving specific
concerns, provide guidance in your strategies, planning for future or current investment rounds,
and, if required, connect with sources for financing your projects. Bear in mind, though, that the
connections we can help you with do not guarantee a successful meeting or closing.

Fourth, during the acceleration program, we will make sure your project follows the right path in
terms of business development in order to get into the ‘investment readiness’ state.

Send an email to our Venture Finance manager (vicente@startupchile.org) to ask for advice. Feel free
to ask for his support, and visit his page as his goal is to guide you through this topic.

8.3 Talent Development

[Contact point: catalina@startupchile.org]

We want your startup to last in time, and for that we know that we need to get the right people at
the right time, starting from the founders to any other role that may help you get to the next level.

proposition through all the people involved and the process that will make you grow. Our focus is
that Talent Development will help you to understand your Identity as a team, to improve the

it.

During the program you will have different instances where you will learn, understand and evaluate
your Talent Strategy, as well as, which are the best options for you to consider to improve or
implement them.

We will have some Academy Sessions, with experts in the field. To deliver you content, tools , and
trending topics in the ecosystem.

We will provide you information and content for different Talent Process for you to implement on
your own in our Talent Section on the SUPpers online.

If you already have some vacancies looking for different profiles and want to share them with the
whole community, post it directly on our LinkedIn Group Start-Up Chile Talent Pool and please
complete our Opportunity Form so we can help you spread the word.

21
If there is anything deeper to work on, our Perks, and Mentors are always a good option to
support you.

If you need to double check any topic related to Talent Development for your business strategy, feel
free to ask for an Office Hour with our Talent Development Manager (catalina@startupchile.org)
who will be happy to help.

8.4 Mentors’ Network

[Contact point: maca.gomez@startupchile.org]

One of our biggest assets in Start-Up Chile is our Mentor Network. Mentorship provides specialized
advice to help solve startups’ problems and can significantly impact both the startup´s growth and
the founder's development. Start-Up Chile mentors are serial entrepreneurs, investors, and industry
experts who work on a voluntary basis and are a crucial component of our program. Therefore, we
strictly demand a professional attitude from our entrepreneurs.

SUP Advisors Meetup: Attendance to all Advisors Meetup sessions is mandatory for the Team
Leaders. As mentioned in the Tracking section, each startup will have 3 Advisors Meetup sessions
during the program which will be composed by their BizDev and 3 mentors that will be assigned to
them in regards to needs, industry, and expertise. Each session will last one hour and will take place
approximately every 1 month. Each Team Leader will receive a personal invitation with their specific
assigned date and time. Your BizDev will send you the instructions prior to each session. Please
keep in mind that this is a mandatory activity.
*Sessions may be rescheduled due to the mentors availability.

On-demand mentoring: Besides the Advisors Meetup mentors you were assigned, we encourage
you to check our Mentors on Demand Directory in our SUPpers online. There, you will find mentors
from different industries and areas of expertise willing to help you. You can ask for connections
through the on-demand mentoring form and we will be happy to make you an intro. If we connect
you with someone by email, you must make the first move and reply within 24 hours. If you do
not reply to the emails and ask for more connections, these will not be made.

8.5 Alumni Network

[Contact point: valy@startupchile.org]

By being part of Start-Up Chile you'll get access to a huge network of 4500+ entrepreneurs from 88
countries. As one of the biggest entrepreneurial communities in the world, it provides you with
knowledge, networking, and support from experienced and valuable SUPpers.

We encourage you to be an active participant in this global network, being connected with the
community, and helping those SUPpers who are currently in the program.

We are going to need you, more than once . How can you help us and keep in touch with SUP?

22
- Share your experience: One of the best things about Alumni is their capacity to share their
experiences during the program, helping people to understand our goals and value
proposition, from the perspective of someone who already passed through it.

- Become a Landing Buddy: Once you've finished the program you will remain an important
part of SUP. A way to keep active is by becoming a Landing Buddy for an incoming
generation. This is a great way to give back what you received, as you will soon know how
valuable this is :).

- Join the Alumni Mentoring Program to mentor our early stage startups that belong to our
Build program.

8.6 How to make use of the Networks

In the Connections area of the SUPpers Online, you can check out how to ask for connections with
our different networks. This is the framework to get outstanding connections:

1. You must meet all the mandatory activities and regulations of the program at the time you
ask for a connection. If you don’t, you are not going to be connected.
2. If we connect you with someone in the network by email, you must make the first move and
reply within 24 hours.
3. Get prepared for the meeting (research the person you are going to meet and go with a clear
goal).
4. Connections may vary depending on the network. If you have any doubts, contact the
executive who oversees the specific network.

24
We want to measure and update the growth of the startups that have been part of the program. For
this, once a year we are going to request you to update information about you and your startup
through our Annual Alumni Passport. This will be your ticket to get access to our perks, networks,
and other opportunities that we offer constantly to the whole community. This information will be
extremely confidential, and we are not going to spread personal information about you and your
startup.

10. Penalties

We know that you and your team are committed and very well prepared to carry out your project.
However, we also know that sometimes being busy can lead to skipping or forgetting other activities.
Nevertheless, when we say “mandatory”, we mean it. There are different alerts and sanctions in
the SUP rules in place in case you fail to uphold the expected standard. This may range from
temporarily blocking connections, to ending the contract with SUP before the end of the program.
You can get one alert with a small sanction -a yellow card- or directly receive the full sanction -a red
card- depending on the gravity of the fault. The alerts and sanctions are detailed here.

12. Useful Information

12.1 Pitch Tips

COMMON PITCH STRUCTURE

Problem/
market What is the problem? Why does it exist? How big is the opportunity?
Value proposition, How do you solve this problem? How does it work? Differentiation,
Solution Secret Sauce, etc.
Revenue Model Clear revenue model, Scalable
Traction Milestones, MVP built, Market validation, Key success metrics, User / revenue growth.
Progress in SUP Results and progress within the SUP Program.
Team Competence & compatibility, What qualifies this team to execute the idea successfully?
Pitch quality Communication skills and quality overall

Here you can find some tips that can help you to become a master in the art of pitching:

● Target Audience: Can you identify the target audience? Who are the target customers? Who
actually uses the product?
● Problem: What is the general problem? What is the specific problem that the startup
addresses?
● Solution: What does the startup do to solve this problem? What is the final goal of the
service/product?
● Competition: Who are the competitors? How is this service/product better than the other
solutions?
● Market: How large is the market? What part of this market will their solution capture?
● Metrics: Do they provide information on the size of this problem? How effective is the
solution at solving the problem?
● Team: What makes their team the best team to solve this problem/do what they do?
● Presentation: Does their body language compel you to support them?
● Who is the Presenter: Do you know who just gave the presentation, what company they
represent, and how to contact them?

Common Feedback:
● Everything in English: For several entrepreneurs, English is a second language. This causes
misspellings and Spanish words to pop up occasionally in presentations.
● A Picture is Worth 1000 Words: Too much text detracts from a presentation, minimize words
where possible and include images to convey sentiment.
● Call to Action: The presentation should end with them asking the audience for something,
not with “Thank you” or “That’s it”
● Be careful with your time management, you will only have 3 minutes to pitch, don’t spend
too much time on one specific topic.
● Always look at the audience, try to pitch without looking at the slides.
