Opening:

Good afternoon everyone, we're from the B2 team. In this debate session we'll be taking the contra side
which is why a university degree does not guarantee success in Indonesia.

We all know that a university degree is very important, especially in a job, however do we really need to
struggle for one? Today we will be proving that success in Indonesia does not come from a university
degree.

Getting a job only doesn't always ensure your success. Being successful as in having a lot of money and
having a job that pays well isn't enough to be called successful. Studies have shown that being overly
wealthy can lead to depression, which is caused by constant competition and pressure.

Rebuttal 1:
The perspective of success differs from person to person. Everyone has their own goals in life, some
think having a peaceful family is successful, and others think that being famous is considered successful.
We think that having a university degree does not guarantee your success. Success can only be achieved
through willpower and determination. It's what pushes us to be better at something, and eventually excel
at them. That "something" is definitely what you love doing.

Continue to thrive in your hobbies and as time goes on you will find your passion. Your passion can be
improved by a lot of factors, not just a degree.

One cannot be called successful if they don't feel happy on what they're doing, even if they SEEM
successful. Say that you obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology and work as a psychiatrist, but you
dislike your work. You don't feel happy even though you had a bachelor's degree as well as a job, a good
one to be precise. Compare it to an average carpenter that loves his job. They aspire to be better at their
job, albeit their income is fairly low. Doing what you love most will bring excitement in your work, thus
making you more productive and gain a stable income.

We feel like what you enjoy doing, productive and positive of course, can be transformed into greater
things, which does not require university degrees. You can achieve success without them, although this
requires willpower and determination. Never lack those two. A university degree could help, but it does
not guarantee your success. You must be happy while doing the job, as it is very crucial.

Take the example of Bob Sadino, an Indonesian businessman who owns Kem Chicks, kem food, and
Kem Farm. He did not graduate college because his father died, but managed to grow his business that's
now very well known and respected. Bob Sadino is very respected in the business world. His mindset was
different from others, he thinks that knowledge of doing something beforehand isn't necessary, doing and
learning it on the field is better than that.

He's also very contradictory towards university. He thinks that all they teach you there is unnecessary.
This controversial statement had caused an uproar in the university community. Many students then left
their college seats and were motivated to start their own business. It was no surprise that happened,
because his achievement was supported by so little college education.

As we all know, college is optional. There are other alternatives in getting education, like online classes.
They can be accessed easily, as they're basically scattered all around the internet. Also, they're very
flexible, meaning that you can study whenever you want without bothering a schedule. Online classes are
not as expensive as college tuition, while providing the same educational materials. Why bother paying
hundreds of millions of rupiahs for university education when you can learn from an also dependable
source with a far more uncostly price?

And, if you start your business earlier, you can learn by doing. As for the people that chose to attend
university before doing so, they'll be able to establish their's after the education program that mostly lasts
about 4 years. They would start late, and while they'll be preparing for the real world, you already got
enough experience to run your own business. Learning by doing is the best way to learn something new
that you already grasp at least the basics of.

Say you want to run a cafe. You got all the skills you need as a barista, as that's your hobby. You can
now reside in online classes on how to run a cafe business, or how to promote your business through
social media and such. The requirement of a university degree is clearly absent, which is beneficial as
you don't need to go through 4 years of education -you start early.

Or, if you don't want to run your own business and instead get a job, there are many choices available in
this modern era that don't require a university degree. For instance, there's influencer marketing. People
that love and are good at persuading one another can learn this. Their skills are more than enough to
suffice the needs of this particular job. Here, you promote someone's product as eye-catching as possible
so that their product sells well, and of course, you get a huge cut from their income.

Research has shown that online learning has performed better than face to face learning, which proves
our point further that online classes are better alternatives to universities.

Besides that, most of the materials they give you in university are not as straightforward as the ones in an
online course. Some or maybe most of them are not related to the major they chose, that might be why
87% of Indonesians did not pick a job in accordance with the major they chose. People may start residing
in online courses in the future, and college might start to lose its worth.

According to a 2022 statistic, it was found that only around 10.15% of Indonesians have completed their
university education. This proves that some jobs in Indonesia don't require a university degree, and those
who complete it are said to feel unsatisfied. That's why even if you had a Ph, D, without any actual
passion you will not enjoy your work.

Closing:
To conclude our rebuttals, being successful in Indonesia does not require a university degree. In fact, a
mere university educational program can easily be substituted with online classes, which are way more
convenient as well as cheaper. For those that think the degree itself is what's important, we must say that
4 years of education isn't really worth struggling. More than that, your passion in something is what
actually drives you to be successful, which pushes you to do better. Then, sharpen your skills through
online classes, as they are shorter in time while providing good education.

There are also lots of other high paying jobs without a degree that dwells in the digital world. All we must
do is explore it. Reject the negative influence and accept the positive ones, and continue to grow your
passion in something until it is fully ripe. There is nothing wrong about trying something new, take the risk
and you will succeed. Many people chose the wrong job despite having a university degree so we must
prevent that from happening to us. In this era we must adapt to our new surroundings, and take
advantage of the opportunities around us.
