Introduction

• This Installation Manual gives details of the procedures involved in installing the Digital Minilab laser printer/
paper processor LP5500R/LP5700R on the conditions stated below.

• This manual is a technical publication provided for use by qualified service personnel or other persons fully
trained in equipment installation procedures.

• For details on maintenance and servicing procedures, refer to the separate Service Manual.

• System restart:
(1) Turn ON the power switch of the LP5500R/LP5700R.
NOTE: If the START switch of the SP-3000 is pressed first, only the SP-3000 starts up.
(2) Wait for 12 seconds or more after shutting down the system and press the START switch to
restart the SP-3000.
NOTE: To restart the system, wait 12 seconds after shutting down the system and then press
the START switch. If the START switch is pressed within 12 seconds, the system does
not restart due to a protection circuit.

Precautions Generally Applying to All Servicing Operations


! WARNING
When servicing internal machine parts, make sure the built-in circuit breaker and the main power supply on the power distribution
board are both set to the OFF position.
If the main power is left ON, electricity will flow as far as the power switch and power supply section, and this can cause electric
shocks and/or short-circuiting.
If the power is left on, there is also a possibility that the machine may be accidentally activated causing damage to the machine
and/or bodily injury.

! CAUTION
The dryer will be hot just after operation. Wait 15 minutes after turning off the power before commencing with servicing procedures.

• Wear gloves when handling the optical system parts to keep these parts free from fingerprints.

• When mounting machine parts, take care not to sandwich any of the wires between them.

• Each of the connectors is provided with a symbol indicating what it is to be connected to. Make sure the connectors are
connected only to the connectors, harness ends or parts bearing the corresponding symbols.

• The plastic connectors have a locking catch on the plug (male) end. To disconnect one of these connectors, loosen the catch
first; when reconnecting them, make sure the catch engages (locks).

Before bringing in the machine, clear enough space so that the machine can be brought to its installation location.

NOTES: • The LP5500R/LP5700R is shipped with the sorter removed.


• If the LP5500R/LP5700R cannot be brought as it is to its installation location, remove the external parts (see Chapter 5).

The weight given below is that applied to each caster. Make sure that the floor can carry this weight.

Weight applied to each caster of LP5500R/LP5700:R approximately 150 kg (330 lbs)

Make sure the floor is level and vibration-free.


Make sure water can drain away efficiently.

REFERENCE:
• Two 40W fluorescent lamps provide approximately 500 lux at a

distance of one meter (3.3 ft).
• If a room heater that generates carbon dioxide such as a gas
heater is used, print quality may be affected.
Use curtains or blinds to ensure that the machine will not be
exposed to direct sunlight.

IMPORTANT
• The print result is adversely affected if the room is too bright.
• Paper may be fogged if the paper magazine is left in the light
for long period.

1.3.2 Temperature and Humidity


Keep the ambient temperature within a range from 15 to 30 °C
(59 to 86 °F).

IMPORTANT
• A room temperature outside this range will cause the
temperature of the solutions inside the tanks to become
unstable, making it impossible for the machine to perform
proper processing. Also, since according to the specifications,
the storage temperature for the replenisher solutions must be
15 °C (59 °F) or over, special precautions must be taken for
storage during the winter season.
• If the room temperature is excessively high, the temperature in
the printer exceeds the range and one of the following errors
may occur.
E-2512, E-2513 or E-2514:
Laser temperature adjustment outside specified range.
E-2515, E-2516 or E-2517:
Abnormal laser temperature.
W-2518:
Abnormal temperature detected in printer.

Keep the ambient relative humidity within a range from 30 to 70 %.

IMPORTANT
• If the relative humidity rises above 70 %, it will not be possible
for the paper to dry sufficiently or to be fed into the printer,
causing damage to prints.
• The thermohygrometer is installed upper inside the left cover.
Be sure not to enter air from the air conditioner in this aria to
keep the processing and drying performances.
• The print output section should not be blown air from electric
fan, etc to prevent disarrangement of sorted prints.

1.3.3 Ventilation
Provide appropriate ventilation near the processor section.

Maintain the ventilation conditions specified below.


Intake: At least 4.2 cu. m/min.
Exhaust: At least 4.8 cu. m/min.

1.4.2 Providing the Power Supply


Have the electrical work involving the power supply and its
connections done by a qualified electrician.

1. Provide a circuit breaker fitted with an ammeter on the wall


near the machine where it can be operated safely and easily,
and use it as a power supply switch exclusive to the machine.

2. Use a cable for the power connections having the current-


carrying capacity below.
