MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Classification
• Class (A):
Ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper, carton, textile and PVC.
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Classification
• Class (B):
Flammable Liquid or gaseous fuels such benzene, gasoline, oil, butane and
natural gas.
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Classification
• Class (C):
Involving energized electrical equipment, often caused by short circuits or
overheated electrical cables.
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Classification
• Class (D):
Combustible metals such as iron, aluminum, sodium and madnesium
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Classification
• Class (K):
Containing a fat element such as cooking oil.
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Class Description
Class A Fires in ordinary combustible materials, such as wood, cloth, paper, rubber, and many
plastics.
Class B Fires in flammable liquids, combustible liquids, petroleum greases, tars, oils, oil-based
paints, solvents, lacquers, alcohols, and flammable gases.
Class C Fires that involve energized electrical equipment.
Class D Fires in combustible metals, such as magnesium, titanium, zirconium, sodium, lithium,
and potassium.
Class K Fires in cooking appliances that involve combustible cooking media (vegetable or animal
oils and fats).

MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Extinguisher Types:
• Co2 Fire Extinguisher
• Dry Chemical Powder Fire Extinguisher
•Clean Agent Fire Extinguisher
•Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher
•Water and Foam Stored pressure Fire Extinguisher
•Modular Automatic Fire Extinguisher
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Extinguisher Types:
• Co2 Fire Extinguisher
✓ Co2 is a liquefied gas, which is highly effective fighting B and
C class of fires.
✓ These extinguishers are ideal for areas where contamination
and/or clean-up area concern, such as data processing centers,
labs, telecommunication rooms, food storage and processing
areas, etc.
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Extinguisher Types:
• Dry Chemical Powder Fire Extinguisher
✓ Dry Chemical powder extinguishers utilize a specially
silicon zed Sodium Bicarbonate.
✓ It chemically insulates class B, C fires by forming a cloud
and cutting off the oxygen supply, thus extinguishing the
fire.
✓ It smothers and breaks the chain reaction of Class B fires
and will not conduct electricity back to the operator.
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Extinguisher Types:
• Clean Agent Fire Extinguisher
✓ Fire extinguishers offer the superior performance and
reliability you expect from quality products.
✓ CLEAN AGENT replaces Halon1211 as the agent-of-choice
for applications where the agent must be clean, electrically
nonconductive, environment friendly, extremely low in
toxicity and effective on class A, B, C fires.
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Extinguisher Types:
• Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher
✓ Wet Chemical fire extinguishers are the best choice for restaurant
kitchen appliance (class k fires).
✓ Fire Blanket usually used with kitchen fire protection procedures A
Fire Blanket is a highly flame-resistant blanket that can be used to
either extinguish a small fire or to wrap around a person.
✓ They are made from 2 layers of woven glass fiber fabric and an inner
layer of fire retardant film.
✓ They work by cutting off the oxygen supply (oxygen is one of the
three elements that a fire needs to burn)and smothering the fire
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Extinguisher Types:
• Water and Foam Stored pressure Fire Extinguisher
Water
✓ These extinguishers are intended primarily for use on Class A fires.
✓ Certain types of water fire extinguishers contain antifreeze which will
allow the extinguisher to be used in freezing conditions.
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Extinguisher Types:
• Water and Foam Stored pressure Fire Extinguisher
Foam
✓ Rated for use on both Class A and Class B fires.
✓ They are not suitable for use in freezing temperatures. An
advantage of this type of extinguisher when used on Class B
flammable liquid fires of appreciable depth is the ability of
the agent to float on and secure the liquid surface, which helps
to prevent reignition.
MANUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Extinguisher Types:
• Modular Automatic Fire Extinguisher
✓ The extinguishing agent may be Co2, dry chemical or clean
agent.
✓ Installed in ceiling (hanging).
✓ Automatic activated when the desired temperature is achieved
by the spraying nozzle
✓ sprinkler attached in the bottom.
✓ Needs no human interference.
✓ Safer to be used in case of none occupied places
PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Quantity of Extinguishers for Class A Hazard ( NFPA 6.2 )

Each A is equivalent to 1.25 gallons

2A = 2.5 Gal
4A = 5 Gal
PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Quantity of Extinguishers for Class A Hazard
Extinguishers Placed 106 ft (32 m) Apart to Comply
with 75 ft (22.9 m) Travel Distance and 11,250 ft2
(1045 m2 ) Maximum Floor Area per Extinguisher.
PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Quantity of Extinguishers for Class A Hazard
PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Quantity of Extinguishers for Class B Hazard ( NFPA 6.3 )

The B rating is equivalent to the

amount of square footage that
the extinguisher can cover,
handled by a professional.
20 B= 20 square feet of coverage
PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Quantity of Extinguishers for Class D Hazard ( NFPA 6.5 )
• The amount of agent needed is normally figured according to the
surface area of the metal.
• Fire extinguishers or extinguishing agents (media) shall be located
not more than 75ft (22.9 m) of travel distance from the Class D
hazard
PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Quantity of Extinguishers for Class K Hazard ( NFPA 6.6 )
• Class K fire extinguishers shall be provided for hazards where there is a potential for fires
involving combustible cooking media (vegetable or animal oils and fats).
• Maximum travel distance shall not exceed 30 ft (9.1 m) from the hazard to the extinguishers.
