SUBJECT : SUMMARY REPORT ON PROTECTED AREA COMMUNITY-


BASED RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (PACBRMA) HOLDERS

This report provides an overview of the recent monitoring activities conducted on the
PACBRMA (Protected Area Community-Based Resource Management Agreement) holders
within the Mati Protected Landscape. These activities reflect the on-going dedication and
commitment of these organizations to the conservation and sustainable management of this
ecologically significant protected area.

Mati Protected Landscape Activities

Date : August 1 – 4, 2023


Activity: Biodiversity Monitoring System (BMS)

Recent BMS monitoring at the Mati Protected


Landscape, specifically in So. Banahaw, has highlighted
the agricultural practices practiced by UBTPA members.
(1) Uguilan – Banahaw A Focus Group Discussion (FGD) attended by active
Tree Planters members revealed that only invasive wood species are
Association (UBTPA) predominantly harvested within the area. Furthermore,
UBTPA actively engages in community involvement to
raise awareness and promote stewardship of the
Area in Hectares: 195 ha Protected Area.

Moreover, the increase in the number of individual birds


within Mati Protected Landscape is noteworthy. The
count has risen from seventy-nine (79) to one hundred
eight (108), which signifies the strengthened efforts and
conservation measures taken by the existing PO

members within Mati PL. They also contribute to


protecting vulnerable and nearly-threatened species,
such as the endemic Mindanao Wattled Broadbill,
Mindanao Tree Squirrel, and Giant Philippine Frog.

Furthermore, as part of the best practices of the Mati PL


PAMO, Tarsier and Owl species were released within
the Mati Protected Landscape, particularly in So.
Banahaw. This demonstrates that this area serves as a
haven for these turned-over wildlife species.

Activity: Regular PAMB Meeting

During a recent PAMB meeting, Mr. Wilson J. Misagal,


(2) Tala Tree Planters Chairman of TTPA, reported a significant reduction in
Association (TTPA) insurgent activities within the area. This achievement is
attributed to the presence of the 61IB Battalion,
supported by the unwavering commitment of the
Provincial Government to maintain an insurgency-free
Area in Hectares: 217.38 ha Davao Oriental. Mr. Misagal, as Chairman of TTPA,
emphasized that the community is now free to engage in
community-based developments.

Activity: Ocular Inspection/Site Visit at So. Magpikit

In support of crafting the Mati PL PAMB Manual of


(3) Magpikit Tree Planters Operations, the Technical Working Committee
Association (MTPA) conducted an on-site inspection. This inspection
identified potential ecotourism sites that may emerge
within the Protected Area due to the ongoing
construction of the Botanical Garden by the City Local
Area in Hectares: 212.34 Government Unit, located adjacent to the Mati Protected
Area. This project ensures the suitability of the protected
area for future ecotourism activities.

Mr. Antonio Mandabon, Chairman of MFTPA, actively


participated in the Site Validation of the beneficiaries of
Area in Hectares: 186.72 the ENGP plantations, successfully validating five (5)
beneficiaries. This demonstrates the PO's active
engagement and commitment to the ENGP's objectives.
They are also the only PO beneficiary of the ENGP
project. There

For the record, from 2012 to 2022, a total of one hundred


seventy-one hectares (171 ha) were covered by the
Macopa Forest Tree Planters Association (MFTPA) with
ninety-four (94) beneficiary grants from the PO
members. They have been able to plant and cultivate
indigenous species such as Narra, Molave, Bayog, and
White Lawaan, as well as fruit trees like Mangosteen,
Lanzones, Rambutan, and Durian.

In conclusion, the unwavering dedication of these PACBRMA holders is a valuable


asset to the preservation of the Mati Protected Landscape. Their active involvement in
sustainable practices not only benefits the environment but also contributes to community
development. These monitoring activities are indicative of their continuous commitment to
fulfilling their duties and responsibilities in conserving the Protected Area.

This report serves as a testament to their commendable efforts and underscores the
importance of continued collaboration to safeguard the Mati Protected Landscape for the
benefit of present and future generations.
