My first day
in PurComm
class
I was both nervous and excited on my first day in
Purposive Communication class. Personally, I am
not a person who enjoys speaking in front of others,
but I want to step beyond of my comfort zone.
I was always nervous and messed up whenever
I spoke, so that day, I was hoping that this class
would help me gain confidence.

Purposive
Communication
I would define Purposive Communication as a cellphone,
because as we all know a cellphone is used to
communicate with other people. It also gave informations
regarding current events and entertainments. Mobile
phones, like Purposive Communication, can assist
students to improve their communication skills, whether
they are verbal or non-verbal.
04 The Ted talk of Chimamanda
Ngozi Adichie, titled "The Danger of a
Favorite YT Single Story," is my favorite YouTube

video watched video that I've watched in class. In this

video, Adichie argues that stories matter,

in class that we often operate unconsciously

from the perspective of hearing and
knowing a single story about a person, a
situation, or perhaps a conflict. The
danger of a single story is it can lead to
faulty assumptions, conclusions, and
decisions, as well as misunderstanding.
The danger of a single story, according
to Adichie, is that it creates stereotypes
and these stereotypes is not true and
people can turn one story into the only
one even though it's not.

Lesson/Presentation
I enjoyed the most
The presentation that I've enjoyed the most is the last group
presentation that we did which is the plagiarism. I discussed here the
ways on how to avoid plagiarism such as to properly use citation and
paraphrasing. I enjoyed this presentation as it is an actual presentation
which is a challenge for me as I don't have confidence to present
myself in front of people but I still managed to finish it and it makes me
proud of myself to step up a little to conquer my fear.

Most challenging
experience I had
in class
The most challenging experienced that I had in Purposive
Communication class is whenever I speak in front of other people
whether it's recorded or not. I always felt anxious when I spoke, and I
always stutter which made me feel embarrassed. But when I got
through with it, that's when my body will calm. I learned that whether
I'm ready or not, I always messed it up, but I shouldn't stop there, I
should build more confidence and believe in myself that maybe
someday, I'll be able to speak more freely without experiencing
anxiety attacks.

Words that you will always remember in
communicating effectively

I think, the words that I will always remember in communicating

effectively are the words concise, concrete, and clear because
when communicating with other people you need to be concise,
concrete, clear and straight to the point so that people you are
communicating can understand what you are trying to say and
it won't lead to a misunderstanding.

Accomplishment I
am most proud of
I am most proud of myself as a part of a group that presented different
discussions either live or recorded with different people. I learned to open up
myself as we brainstormed our insights and build a great teamwork. I can
say that after all of those presentation, my confidence improved but I am not
satisfied with it so I need to improve it more and I also need to improve the
way I speak. It added me value specifically in the way I think, I learned how to
be conscious about the things that I may say that can lead to
miscommunication and misinformation.

Letter to Self
Dear Self,
In this class, I think the most important lesson that I've learned is the communicating
effectively in a multicultural world. This taught me informations to deepen my knowledge
about communication either verbal or non-verbal communication. I learned this when our
first meeting happened because this topic is the first lesson that Ms. Gabriel had
discussed to us. This learning matters because it can help people to be aware of the
things that they should or shouldn't do to avoid miscommunication between one another.
It also help people to know how to communicate effectively and the things that they
should consider. In light of this learning I can say that communicating effectively in a
multicultural world is relevant as it understand and respect people regardless of what
gender, age, culture, and ethnicity they belong.

Me on my
last day of
class
To be honest, I'm sad that our class has ended and
that we will not having a meeting anymore. But I
am grateful to Ms. Gabriel for educating us, it
motivates me to improve my speaking confidence.
It inspires me to believe that one day I will be able
to conquer my fear and talk freely in public.

Dear Ms. Roselle Gabriel, Teacher
I'd want to express my gratitude to you for teaching us about the things that we need to
know about communication and feeding us with new knowledge that can help us when we
are working in the near future. You taught us not only about your field of expertise, but also
how to be a better person. You taught us to speak up and be conscious of what is going on
in our country, especially now that we are dealing with a pandemic and an election is
approaching.

I don't have any suggestions nor recommendations because you are currently doing your
best in everything you can to ensure that we understand your lessons.
Sincerely,
Bautista, Bernadette S.
