COURSE/COURSE CODE : CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY I / BQS402


PROGRAM : BACHELOR (HONS) OF QUANTITY SURVEYING (AP224)
SEMESTER : 01 (OCTOBER 2020-FEBRUARY 2021)

The Objective:

This assignment is prepared to provide an overview of the construction industry, enhance


student knowledge on various foundation types, and understand the basic construction drawing.
This includes all the essential aspects of the syllabus.

The Task:

The Client is decided to propose a single storey bungalow house in Shah Alam. The Consultants
are considering the options whether to proposed Strip foundation or Pad foundation for the most
suitable type of foundations for the proposed bungalow.

i. Identify the consultants involved in the above project and explain their roles and
responsibilities.

ii. Compare and contrast the above-proposed types of foundations and explain the suitability
of each foundation. Students must do sketches of the foundations (the sketches must
show the plan, section, and elevation of the foundation). You should annotate and
thoroughly label your sketch and give an appropriate dimension where applicable.

Your report should include:


a) Introduction
b) The Role and Responsibilities of the Consultants involved
c) Types of Foundation
d) Compare and Contrast, and the suitability
e) Conclusion

Requirements and Format of Report:

1. This is an Individual Work


2. The written report shall be in English, with 11 point Arial font and 1.5 spacing.
3. List of references (Proper citation and referencing is compulsory)
4. Your report must at least based on five references - proper citation and referencing are
compulsory.
5. To do sketches to the suitable type of foundation, the students can provide diagrams,
pictures, photos, etc. to support your explanation.
6. To annotate and thoroughly label your drawing and give an appropriate dimension where
applicable.

Assessment

The report shall carry 20% of the total assignment marks for this course

Assessment will be judged based on the following criteria:
