TEACH US TO PRAY

9
Text: Matthew 6:9–13 (NKJV) In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed
be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us
this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead
us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and
the glory forever. Amen.

INTRODUCTION:
Matthew 6:5–9 (NKJV) 5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they
love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen
by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your
room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your
Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
You pray because you need Jesus – NOT to impress others with your spirituality.
7
And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will
be heard for their many words.
It’s NOT just the words. It’s about the HEART.
8
“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before
you ask Him.

PART 1 - PRAY TO THE FATHER

We pray to “Our Father”, in the name of Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

PART 2 – HALLOWED BE THY NAME

Psalm 100:4–5 (NKJV) 4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5 For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His
truth endures to all generations.
Exit entitlement by entering through thanksgiving. It is NOT about you, your needs, your guilt. It is
about WHO HE IS! No matter HOW or WHAT we feel, we praise.
Matthew 6:8 (NKJV) 8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you
have need of before you ask Him.
Psalm 100:1–3 (NKJV) 1 Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! 2 Serve the LORD with
gladness; Come before His presence with singing. 3 Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who
has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Psalm 103:1–5 (NKJV) 1 Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy
name! 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your
iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you
with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your
youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Psalm 103:8–12 (NKJV) 8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in
mercy. 9 He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. 10 He has not dealt
with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heavens
are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; 12 As far as the east is
from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

BE YOUR NAME: God names himself according to His characteristics. The eight compound names of
God in the Old Testament correspond with the five benefits in the new covenant, as revealed in the
chart below.

Deliverance from sin Jehovah-m’kaddesh “Jehovah Who Sanctifies”
Spirit – The fullness of the Jehovah-shalom “Jehovah Is peace”
Holy Spirit Jehovah-shammah “Jehovah Is there
Soundness – The promise ofJehovah-rophe “Jehovah Heals”
health and healing
Success – Freedom from theJehovah-jireh “Jehovah My Provider”
curse
Security – Freedom from theJehovah-nissi “Jehovah My Banner”
Fear of death and hell Jehovah-rohi “Jehovah My Shepherd”

Five Confessions of Redemption:

Confessions of Redemption
1. BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS, I AM REDEEMED FROM THE POWER OF THE ENEMY
Redeemed – bought back, removed from the market place, loose from slavery
Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV) In Him we have redemption through His blood…
The enemy no longer has any right or authority over your life, not even over things that belong to
you.
CONFESSION: By the blood of Jesus, I am redeemed from the power of the enemy. I have been
rescued from the dominion of darkness and brought into the kingdom of Jesus, the Son of God.

2. BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS, ALL MY SINS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN

Forgiveness – to grant relief from paying a debt
Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV) In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our
trespasses.
We can relate freely and fully to God, now that sin and debt have been removed out of the way.”
CONFESSION: By the blood of Jesus, all my sins have been forgiven.

3. THE BLOOD OF JESUS CLEANSES ME NOW AND CONTINUALLY FROM ALL MY SIN
Cleanses – rid of impurities as if washing clean
1 John 1:7 (NKJV) …but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship
with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
The blood of Jesus carries out a constant process of purification and sanctification in us to stop
the stain of sin from touching our hearts.
For this confession to be effective, we need to live according to the Word and in fellowship with
our brothers and sisters in Christ.
CONFESSION: Because I walk in the light and have fellowship with other Christians, the blood of
Jesus cleanses me now and continually from all sin.

4. BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS, I AM JUSTIFIED AND GOD SEES ME AS THOUGH I HAVE

NEVER SINNED
Justification - an act of God by which he establishes persons as righteous - in right and true
relationship to himself.
Romans 5:8-9 (NKJV) But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall
be saved from the wrath of God through Him.”
We are free from accusation, guilt and condemnation. The blood of Jesus makes us righteous
before God, so that we can live our lives with a clear conscience.
CONFESSION: By the blood of Jesus, I have been justified and God sees me as though I had
never sinned.

5. BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS, I AM SANCTIFIED SET APART FOR GOD’S PURPOSE

Sanctify – to set apart for a specific GODLY purpose, and relates to being made holy
Hebrews 13:12 (NKJV) Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own
blood, suffered outside the gate.
Our lives completely belong to God and we are set apart to do the work of the ministry.
CONFESSION: By the blood of Jesus, I am sanctified and set apart for God.

PART 3 – THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE

Matthew 6:10 (NKJV) 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
What is the Kingdom Of God? Where the KING has DOMINION. Where GOD is INCHARGE.
Establish the DOMINION of God on earth as it is in heaven.
Where must the Kingdom be established? God’s kingdom should be established in four major
areas: A) yourself; B) your family; C) your church; and D) your nation.
YOURSELF: Begin with yourself. The Bible says, “ The effectual, fervent prayer of A RIGHTEOUS
MAN avails much” (James 5:16). Unless you are right before God, your prayer will not be effective.
YOUR FAMILY: Your family is your second priority. If you are married, pray for your spouse. Establish
the DOMINION of God by praying: Your kingdom come, Your will be done, according to the Word until
the Spirit gives release to move on in prayer.
The if you have children, establish the DOMINION of God by praying over them: Your kingdom come,
Your will be done, in each of their lives, according to the Word. You can also make specific petitions.
Pray over their spouses if they are married. If they are not married, do not forget to pray for the right
person so that they will not get out of the perfect will of God for their lives.
If your children are young, ask the Lord to reveal His plans for each child in the future, so you can
train up that child in the way he should go. Treasure in your heart those things the Lord speaks to
you about each child, and daily ask for God’s wisdom in guiding and training your children.
Then pray for relatives as the Lord lays them on your heart. Allow the circle of your concern and
compassion to be enlarged. Make sure you do not rush through some little prayer formula, but pray
until the Spirit of God gives you release.
YOUR SPIRITUAL FAMILY (CHURCH): Your third priority is your church. Pray for the pastor, the
leadership of the church, the faithfulness of the people, and the harvest.
1. Pastor: As you pray for your Senior Pastor and his wife. Ask God to anoint them, speak
through them, and direct them. Petition the Lord to give your pastor a shepherd’s heart, to
impart wisdom to him as he spends time in the Word and in prayer, and to make him a pure
channel through which the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit can flow.
2. Leadership: Pray for your District/Zone/Tribe Pastor, Supervisor, Co-ordinator, Cell leader,
etc. Call the leaders’ names in prayer. As you pray for them one by one. Pray for the people
in the church who are doing the work of the ministry that directly touches your own life. Pray
for the music team, ushers and the various groups and organisations in the church.
3. Disciples: Pray that they will be faithful to their calling, to the vision God has given our
church, and to Jesus.
4. Harvest: Pray for the harvest of souls (Is. 43:4-6). Pray the Holy Spirit, like a divine magnet,
will attract those who are called to the church out of the north, south, east and west.
Jesus said, “ the kingdom heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force”
(Matt. 11;12). When you begin praying over your church, speak to the powers and
principalities of the air that work in the sons of disobedience (Eph. 2:2). Those powers and
principalities hold the reins over certain areas. Therefore, speak to the area north of your
church as if it were a person and say, “the will of God be done! I command you to release
every person the Holy Spirit is drawing to become a part of this body.” Tarry there in prayer
until you have a release in your spirit. Through the Spirit, face these geographical areas,
challenging them until they drop the reins of control. Then in Jesus’ name ask God to
dispatch angels to minister to the heirs of salvation (Heb. 1:14). Implore the Holy Sprit, the
Lord of the harvest, to draw the people and plant them in the church (Ps. 92:13).
YOUR CIVIL FAMILY (NATION): Your fourth priority is your nation. Pray “Thy kingdom come. Thy will
be done” in your city, state/province, and nation. Pray our president will have the wisdom of God; that
spiritual leaders will walk in wisdom, be people of prayer, and be kept by the power of God. Pray
specifically. Call leaders by name. Passionately intercede for your country. Pray for revival.

PRAYING ACCORDING TO PURPOSE

Model Kingdom Prayer 1 - Col 1:9-14

Col 1:9-14 NKJV 9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for
you, and to ask:
• that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding;
KNOWING His Will – Understanding His will
• 10
that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good
work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
DOING His Will – Increased knowledge
• 11
strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and
longsuffering with joy;
CONTINUING in His Will – Not giving up, not getting weary

Model Kingdom Prayer 2 – Eph 1:16-23

Eph 1:16-22 NKJV 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:
17
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom
and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened;
• that you may know what is the hope of His calling,
NLT: so that you can understand the confident hope (D: expectation) he has given to
those he called
AMP: so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you,
MES: so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do
(understand the calling to which God has called you)

• what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
AMP: how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones) (the GREAT
inheritance in us; Great investment)
NIV: the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints (that you might understand how
much God has invested in you)
(understand how much He believes in you)

• 19
and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe,
AMP: And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and
unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as
demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength,
(understand how God has empowered you)
20
which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His
right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and
dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to
come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things
to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Model Kingdom Prayer 3

Eph 3:14-20 NKJV 14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from
whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the
riches of His glory,
• to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell
in your hearts through faith (seeing the spirit);
Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV) 23 KEEP YOUR HEART with all diligence, for out of it spring the
issues of life.
Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) 23 GUARD YOUR HEART ABOVE ALL ELSE, for it determines the
course of your life.
Proverbs 28:26 (NKJV) 26 He who trusts in his own heart (NLT: own insight; NIV: in
himself) is a fool, But whoever walks wisely will be delivered.
AMP 17May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His
permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on
love,
• that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the
saints what is the width and length and depth and height—19 to know the love of Christ which
passes knowledge;
AMP 17 … May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love,
• that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
AMP: that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have
the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded
with God Himself]!
Romans 8:11 (NKJV) 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in
you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life (strengthen) to your mortal
bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
20
Now to Him who is able to do (NLT: to accomplish infinitely more) exceedingly abundantly (AMP:
do superabundantly) above all that we ask or think [AMP: infinitely beyond our highest prayers,
desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams], according to the power that works in us,
21
to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

PRAYING for the HARVEST

Is God willing to save ALL?
2 Peter 3:8–9 (NKJV) 8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as
a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His
promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should
perish but that all should come to repentance.
1 Timothy 2:3–5 (NKJV) 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who
desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and
one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
The WORD says God is willing!
1 John 5:14–15 (NKJV) 14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything
according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we
know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

THE CONDITION OF SINNERS

There wills are bound by Satan
2 Timothy 2:25–26 (NKJV) 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps
will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their
senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
Ephesians 2:2 (NKJV) 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of
disobedience,
“works” – greek means energizes Satan energizes sinners
1 John 5:19 (NKJV) 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of
the wicked one.
Luke 11:21–22 (NKJV) 21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are
in peace. 22 But when a stronger than he comes upon him and overcomes him, he takes from him
all his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils.
• Now – described as property of Satan who guards over them.
• Before freeing the captives, Jesus dealt with captor, Satan, disarmed Him
In praying for the lost you are freeing His will from the bondage of Satan.
Sinners are blinded by Satan!
2 Corinthians 4:3–4 (NKJV) 3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are
perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the
gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV) 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God,
for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
We need to free the wills of the sinners through prayer, through enforcing Satan’s defeat in their
lives.
Hebrews 2:14–15 (NKJV) 14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He
Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the
power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all
their lifetime subject to bondage.
1 John 3:8 (NKJV) 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For
this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
Colossians 2:14–15 (NKJV) 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against
us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15
Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them,
triumphing over them in it.
Matthew 18:18 (NKJV) 18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in
heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

PART 4 - GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD

1. BE IN THE WILL OF GOD (Vision):
Matthew 6:22–7:1 (NKJV) 22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good,
your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of
darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 “No
one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be
loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
25
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink;
nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than
clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet
your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by
worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider
the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even
Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of
the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe
you, O you of little faith? 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall
we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your
heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God
and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry
about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its
own trouble.
God in EVERYTHING:
Eccl3:10-11 NKJV 14 I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever. Nothing can be
added to it, and nothing taken from it. GOD DOES IT, that men should fear before Him.

James 1:2–8 (NKJV) 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that
the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may
be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who
gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with
no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let
not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man,
unstable in all his ways.
Worry about nothing; pray about EVERYTHING:

Philippians 4:6 NKJV 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses
all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

• Fellowship With Jesus: To be in the will of God, fellowship with Jesus through a
consistent personal prayer life and the Word of God is essential. As we seek the Lord
each day, the Holy Spirit empowers us with ability, efficiency, and might to do the will of
God. We are commanded to do two things in Heb. 10:22,25: Firstly, draw near to God in
prayer. Secondly not forsake the assembling of us together.
• Fellowship with One Another: The second requirement for residing in God’s will is to be
rightly related to our brothers ad sisters in a local church. If one member suffers, we all
suffer; if one member is honoured, we all rejoice. We cannot say to another member of the
body of Christ, “I have no need of thee” (1 Cor. 12:20,21,25,26). There must be no schism
in the body but the members should provoke one another to love and good works and
exhort one another (Heb. 10:24,25).
• Diligent, Balanced Work Habits: Paul gave instructions regarding work (1 Thess.
4:11,12). We are to earn our living with our own hands and command the respect of the
outside world, as we are self-supporting, and having need of nothing. Paul also warned that
we are not to be neglectful of duty and However, we are not to go the opposite extreme of
workaholics, allowing the cares of this life and the deceitfulness of riches to choke out the
Word of God, rendering our lives fruitless (Matt. 13:22). Work must be balance with play.
Diligence and duty must be balanced by devotion. Fear, worry, and insecurity drive us to
overwork. When we realize that God our Father is our Source, we are content to do the
possible and let Him do the impossible.
• Obedience in Giving: The fourth prerequisite to being in the will of God is obedience in
giving. In Mal. 3:10, God promises if we bring our tithes into the storehouse, He will
open the windows of heaven and pour out so many blessings we cannot contain them.
2. BELIEVE IT IS GOD’S WILL TO PROSPER YOU: You cannot have a poverty mentality and
receive God’s best. If you waver in faith, you should not expect to receive anything from the
Lord (James 1:6,7). Are you fully convinced that it is God’s will to prosper you? Look up Deut.
28:1-4 and read it carefully. God promises that if we are in His will, multitudes of blessings
will overtake us. God wants to bless His people. Luke 6:38 promises that if we give, it shall be
given to us. Mark 10:29,30 pledges a hundred-fold return to those who make sacrifices for the
sake of Christ and the gospel. Phil. 4:19 promises, “But my God shall supply all your need
according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. “ John believes it is God’s will for His people to
prosper (3 John 2).
3. BE SPECIFIC: A third aspect of praying in God’s provision is making specific requests. By this
we know we are to pray daily over our specific needs. Paul exhorts, “Be careful for nothing: but
in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known
unto God” (Phil. 4:6)
4. BE TENACIOUS: In Luke 18:1-8, Jesus related the parable of the unjust judge and the widow
who repeatedly, persistently begged, “Avenge me of mine adversary.” Because of the woman’s
tenacity, the judge granted her request (Luke 18:5). Jesus emphasised the point to His
disciples when He said: “And shall not God avenge His own elect, which cry day and night unto
Him, though He bear long with them”? (Luke 18:7). It takes tenacity to recover what Satan, our
adversary, has stolen from us. Pro 6:30,31 reveals that if the thief is discovered, he must
restore sevenfold, Jesus said, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:
I come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John10:10).
John said, “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works
of the devil” (1John 3:8). God promises to restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten”
(Joel 2:25).
SUMMARY: To appropriate God’s provision, you must first make sure you are residing in the will
of God and walking in the purposes of God. Next, believe it is God’s will prosper you. Daily begin
to ask God specifically for what you need. And last, be tenacious. This is how Jesus taught us to
expect and experience God’s provision.

PART 5 - FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS

Matthew 6:14–15 (NKJV) 14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will
also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive
your trespasses.
Matthew 5:7 (NKJV) 7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
Colossians 3:13 (NKJV) 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a
complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
Ephesians 4:32 (NKJV) 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
even as God in Christ forgave you.
Nothing SO characterizes the nature of Christ as forgiveness. Thus we have the character of
forgiveness as we have the character of Christ.
Forgiveness is the stuff of true godliness.
Stephen’s last words were, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” (Acts 7:60)
Jesus words on the cross: “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke
23:34).
JESUS - After being betrayed, falsely convicted, beaten, spat upon, and unjustly nailed to a cross
to die an agonizing death, the Son of God harbored no hatred towards His persecutors but instead
offered them forgiveness.
Nothing so much demonstrates God’s love as His forgiveness.
A person who does not forgive is therefore a person lacking in godly character and without Christlike
love.
An unforgiving Christian is a living contradiction of His new nature in Christ
Forgiveness is therefore the key to spiritual unity in the church because it is the key to love, and the
key to all meaningful relationships.
You need FAITH to forgive!
Mark 11:22–25 (NLT) 22 Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. 23 I tell you the
truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will
happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. 24 I tell you,
you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. 25 But
when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your
Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.”
Mark 11:25–26 (NKJV) 25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone,
forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not
forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

1. ASK GOD TO FORGIVE YOU: Confess that sin to God claiming this promise: “If we confess
our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness’ (1 John 1:9). The word “confess” used in 1 John 1:9 means “to speak the
same thing.” In other words, we must agree with what God says about our sin and be willing to
turn away from it. Beware that Satan sometimes doubles back, seeking to remind us of past
failures. Do not allow his condemnation, but resist Satan’s tactic by quoting: “There is therefore
now no condemnation to (judgement against) them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not
after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Rom. 8:1).
2. FORGIVE AS OFTEN AS YOU WANT TO BE FORGIVEN: “ Lord, how oft shall my brother sin
against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times?” Peter asked. Jesus answered: “I say not unto
thee, until seven times: but until seventy times seven” (Matt.18:21,22).
3. MAINTAIN A RIGHT ATTITUDE TOWARD OTHERS: Forgiveness is an act of the will, not an
emotion. When you set your will to forgive and pray for your offenders, you emotions will
submit to the Spirit of God in you. Refuse to let self-pity crawl back into your heart. Jesus never
asks us to do anything He does not give us grace and power to do, and He gives the following
command to believe: “But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do
good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despiteful use you, and persecute you”
(Matt. 5:44).

Repentance From Dead Words

Dead works are ANYTHING we do that is NOT DONE IN FAITH TOWARD GOD. Anything not done
in faith is a dead work – FAITH is that which BRINGS LIFE into our ACTIVITY!

Faith follows Repentance

Mark 1:15 (NKJV) 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent,
and believe in the gospel.”

The whole message of the Bible is in this order: repent and believe. There are lots of people who
might say they are struggling for faith. The truth is not that they are struggling for faith, but that
they may have never met the condition of repentance.

False Repentance
We need to understand that there can also be a false repentance, which we call remorse. They
have never really changed their mind. They have never really made the decision to surrender to
the Lordship of Jesus in their lives. Their decisions are still made on the basis of: “If I do this, what
will it do for me?” You see, when you truly repent, you do not think that way! It is ALWAYS “If I do
this, will it glorify Jesus?”

But without true repentance there can never be true faith.

Greek metanoéō “to change your mind”—change the way you think. to literally “to turn around.”
You have been facing one way—the wrong way, with your back to God—so you turn 180 degrees
around, face toward God, and say, “God, here I am. Tell me what to do and I’ll do it.”

Acts 3:19 (NKJV) 19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out,
so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Examine me!
Psalm 26:2 (NKJV) 2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; Try (NLT: test) my mind and my heart.
Psalm 26:2 (NLT) 2 Put me on trial, LORD, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart.
Psalm 139:23–24 (NKJV) 23 Search me (AMP: [thoroughly]), O God, and know my heart; Try
(test) me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked AMP: hurtful) way in me, And
lead me in the way everlasting. (NLT: Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me
along the path of everlasting life)

Psalm 51:1–13 (NKJV) 1 Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness
(unfailing love); According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. 2
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity (guilt), And cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my
transgressions (rebellion), And my sin troubles me day and night 4 Against You, I have sinned, and
committed evil in Your sight … 5 I was born a sinner and you 6 desire honesty and transparency
from my heart 7 O GOD PLEASE purify me from my sins, and I WILL be clean; Wash me, and I
shall be whiter than snow. 8 So that I can be glad and rejoice. 9 Cover my sins (with the Blood of
the Lamb) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast (loyal) spirit within me. 11
Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to
me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit (make me willing to obey
you). 13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted to You (Then I
will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.)
PART 6 - LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION
” And lead us not into Temptation, but deliver us from Evil,” is vitally important if you are to stand in
the victory Christ has won for us on the cross. Here you build your hedge of protection about
yourself, your loved ones, and your possessions. Here you put on the armour of light and defeat
the devil and his devices.
1 Timothy 6:12 (NKJV) 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were
also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
It is identified as a good fight because we win! We win because we PRAY!
Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts
of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Matthew 26:39–41 (NKJV) 39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O
My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” 40
Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not
watch with Me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is
willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Psalm 91:14–16 (NKJV) 14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I
will set him on high, because he has known My name. 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer
him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him,
and show him My salvation.”
2 Samuel 22:3 (NKJV) 3 The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of
my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence.
Psalm 18:2 (NKJV) 2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my
strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Psalm 23:4 (NKJV) 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no
evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 57:1 (NKJV) 1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And
in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.
Psalm 91:11 (NKJV) 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your
ways.
Psalm 121:5 (NKJV) 5 The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand.
Psalm 140:1 (NKJV) 1 Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men; Preserve me from violent men

PART 7 - FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, THE POWER AND THE GLORY FOREVER
Have you noticed that the “Lord’s Prayer” opens and closes with praise? Praise is the Word’s most
dynamic commandment. We acknowledge our dependency on Him.
There are seven levels of praise expressed by seven Hebrew words in the Old Testament. “
TODAH” means” to extend hands in thanksgiving”. “YADAH” is “to worship with extended hands” –
to throw out the hands, enjoying God.” HALLAL” means, “to be vigorously excited, to laud, boast,
rave, to celebrate”. “ZAMAR” means “to pluck the strings of an instrument,” to praise with song.
“BARAK” is” to bless,” to declare God the origin of power for success, prosperity, and fertility; to be
still. “TEHILLAH” is” the word for singing in the Spirit or singing of Hallals.” SHABACH” means” to
commend, address in a loud tone, to shout.” There are clearly many ways to express our love,
gratitude, and worship to God our Father.
WHEN WE ARE TO PRAISE: We are to praise the Lord continually and in all things. We are to
praise in times of rest and peace, in the midst of trials, and when the trials are over. In fact, some
battles are to be won by praise rather than by warfare; for example, Judah’s battle with her
enemies that is described in 2 Chron. 20:1-30. Take a moment to look it up and read the inspiring
account.
• PRAISE CONTINUALLY: We are to praise the Lord continually and in all things. The writer
of Hebrews informs us that Jesus suffered for us that Jesus suffered for us that He might
sanctify us with His own blood (Heb.13: 12). Then the writer urges: “Therefore by Him let us
continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to
His name” (Heb. 13:15).
• PRAISE WHEN OUR SOULS ARE AT REST: We are to praise the Lord when there are no
storms or tests, and our souls are at rest. David knew this secret and wrote: “You are my
hiding place; you shall preserve me from trouble; you shall surround me about with songs of
deliverance” (Ps. 32:7).
• PRAISE IN THE MIDST OF THE TRIAL: “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of
God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1Thess. 5:18). We are to praise in the midst of the
trial. In prison at midnight when Paul and Silas sang praises unto God, their bonds were
loosed by an earthquake, the keeper of the prison was saved along with his entire
household, and Paul and Silas were released from prison the next day. The account can be
read in Acts 16:25-34. In the midst of a trial brought about by his own disobedience, Jonah
repented, began to praise the Lord, and was delivered (John 2:7-10).
• PRAISE WHEN THE TRIAL IS OVER: The Psalmist David was a man of war. He was also
a man of praise, and penned these beautiful words in Ps. 40:1-4: “I waited patiently for the
Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,
out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. And He has put
a new song in my mouth - praise to our God: many will see it and fear, and will trust in the
Lord. Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust, and does not respect the proud,
nor such as turn aside to lies.” The Psalmist David knew the importance of praising the Lord
when God had granted him victory and the battle was over. We must not forget to praise
the Lord for His deliverance and faithfulness to us.
• RETURN TO PRAISE: The model prayer Jesus gave us opens and closes with praise. It
also opens and closes with references to God’s kingdom. After we have brought our
petitions to God our Father, Jesus instructs us to return to praise. The words, “ For Thine is
the Kingdom and the Power, and the Glory Forever,” are idle words to most people. Why
did Jesus include them? As we study the scriptures, we learn that God our Father has
lovingly invited us to be participants in His kingdom, His power, and His glory.
THE KINGDOM: “For the kingdom is the Lord’s” states Ps. 22:28. Jesus said, “Thine is the
Kingdom” (Matt.6:13). But Jesus also said, “ Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good
pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). And consider Paul’s words in Col. 1:12-14: “
Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in
the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness, and conveyed us into the kingdom of
the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”
POWER:
1 Chronicles 29:12 (NKJV) 12 Both riches and honor come from You, And You reign over all. In
Your hand is power and might; In Your hand it is to make great And to give strength to all.
Psalm 21:13 (NKJV) 13 Be exalted, O LORD, in Your own strength! We will sing and praise Your
power.
Psalm 66:7 (NKJV) 7 He rules by His power forever; His eyes observe the nations; Do not let the
rebellious exalt themselves. Selah
Jeremiah 10:12 (NKJV) 12 He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by
His wisdom, And has stretched out the heavens at His discretion.
Psalm 145:10–13 (NKJV) 10 All Your works shall praise You, O LORD, And Your saints shall bless
You. 11 They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, And talk of Your power, 12 To make known
to the sons of men His mighty acts, And the glorious majesty of His kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is
an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations.
THE GLORY:
Psalm 24:8 (NKJV) 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in
battle.
Isaiah 42:8 (NKJV) 8 I am the LORD, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor
My praise to carved images.
1 Chronicles 16:27 (NKJV) 27 Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and gladness are in
His place.
1 Corinthians 3:21–23 (NKJV) 21 Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours: 22
whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to
come—all are yours. 23 And you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.
1 Corinthians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that
you did not receive (NLT: God has given you) ? Now if you did indeed receive it (NLT: God has
given you), why do you boast as if you had not received it?

SUMMARY: The life blood of Jesus made all blessing possible. Because of Jesus, we have been
made participants in God’s kingdom, power and glory. Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and
the Glory! With these words, we pass subject six in our prayer, signalling its completion.

AMEN and AMEN

“Let it be – let it happen, exist, transpire as was said, declared, prayed”

Additional prayer notes:

What PRAYER is:

Prayer is a GENUINE, SENSIBLE, AFFECTIONATE pouring out of the heart or soul TO GOD,
THROUGH JESUS CHRIST,
with the help of the Holy Spirit,
appropriating everything that God has promised in the Word,
by faith,
with submission,
in fulfilling God’s will and purpose for my life.

GENUINE

Jeremiah 29:12–13 (NKJV)

12
Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
13
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Oxford: truly what it is said to be; authentic

sincere; honest
without acting
without exaggerating or watering down

Genuineness brings simplicity, to tell it as it is.

It is not hypocrisy to be seen or heard, for the applause and appreciation of others, which Jesus
warns against in Matt 6, but prayer which is accompanied with sincerity.

SENSIBLE

James 4:3 (NLT)

3
And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what
will give you pleasure.

Oxford: wise and prudent, showing care and thoughtfulness;

having or showing common sense
practical and functional rather than decorative
Sensibility in prayer brings clarity, to put things into a godly perspective.
It is not vain repetitions, mindlessly babbling on and on, which Jesus also warns against in
Matt 6, but prayer which is accompanied with thought and care to God’s will and way.

AFFECTIONATE

James 5:16 (NKJV)

16
…The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Greek: “energeo” to be operative, to be at work, to put forth power.

Oxford: intensely passionate

archaic hot or glowing

Affectionate in prayer brings spiritual energy, to release the dynamic power of God.
It is not mere emotion, but a stirred spirit, as Paul wrote Timothy that has great power to
produce wonderful results.

BREAKTHROUGH PRAYER IS THE EFFECTUAL FERVENT PRAYER OF RIGHTEOUS MEN.

James 5:13–15 (NKJV)

13
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.
14
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him,
anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15
And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has
committed sins, he will be forgiven.
