Dragon Sea Snail
Blue dragons are part a group of creatures known as nudibranchs or sea slugs. There
are several species of similar blue dragons in the genus Glaucus. The marine life with the
Latin name Glaucus atlanticus is a rare species with a very small body size. Although the
shape and color are very beautiful, it turns out that this snail has a poison that is very
dangerous to humans. The danger of its sting is the same as that of jellyfish and scientists
say it is even more dangerous.
Blue dragon sea snails are also known as swallows and are 5.5cm long and 3.75cm
wide. They can weigh up to 4kg. It can live up to a year in good conditions. It is silvery gray
on its dorsal side and dark and pale blue on the belly. It has dark blue stripes on its head.
It has a flat, tapered body and six appendages that branch into finger-like spines.
Blur Dragon Sea Snails have tentacles that are useful for detecting food
and avoiding predators. Their flexible body structure allows them to adapt to
changes in the marine environment. They feed on hydrozoa (a group of animals
in the same phylum as jellyfish), especially those that are highly toxic. Although
their stings are extremely painful for humans, blue Glaucus and some other sea
slugs are able to eat their prey's stinging cells without hurting themselves. To
keep themselves safe from the venom, these animals secrete protective mucus and
a hard, disk-like covering or barrier from within their skin.
