Introduction
Box Jellyfish Taxonomy: Eukarya domain

Phylum : Cnidaria

Class: Cubozoan,

 the Chirodropida order and family

 Chrironex Genus

 the Chrionex fleckeri

Fun Facts
1. Jellyfish are the oldest multicellular organisms on the universe

2. The species do not have brain, heart or lungs

3. Some of the Jellyfish species are considered as immortals as they clone themselves into other organisms

4. The box jellyfish has water percentage between 85 -98% which means when they get out of water they easily

disappear.

5. Another fun fact is that they are believed to have stepped into the space through the space shuttle Columbia

journey.
Habitat –Box Jellyfish live in coastal waters especially in Northern Australia and New Guinea north to

–the Philippines and Vietnam ("Box Jellyfish").

Diet – Box Jellyfish live on a diet of prawns and small fish.

Reproduction - The adults have gonads in the gastroderm, and these release ova and sperm into the

water in the breeding season, fertilizing the egg outside of a parent

Jellyfish are dioecious; that is, they are usually either male or female(occasionally hermaphroditic

specimens are found). In most cases, both release sperm and eggs into the surrounding water, where

the (unprotected) eggs are fertilized and mature into new organisms.
Adaptations
 The amount of venom in one animal is enough to kill 60 adult humans, which makes killing prey
easier.
 When the jellyfish are swimming the tentacles contract so they are about 15 cm long and about 5 mm
in diameter; when they are hunting, the tentacles are thinner and extend to about three meters long.
 They have developed the ability to move rather than just drift, jetting at up to four knots through the
water.
 They also have eyes grouped in clusters of six on the four sides of their bell.
 Each cluster includes a pair of eyes with a sophisticated lens, retina, iris and cornea, although without a
central nervous system, scientists aren’t sure how they process what they see.
 Medical Care Required: People have a misconception that a Box Jelly sting’s poison

can be treated by urine of another person. The following is the recommended

treatment.

- Vinegar and peeing on the spot may alleviate the pain a little bit, but hospital help is

crucial to save the victim.

- Immerse the stung region in hot water.

- Remove any remaining tentacles with a gloved palm, stick, shell or tweezers. Pay

attention not to put the tentacles or clothes on yourself.

They have long tentacles and can be

Longer than 27 meters.

They may be  longer, more

than the size of a blue whale

that is the world's largest mammal!

Conclusion

Box Jellyfish is an interesting organism though venomous which should be closely

studied and research conducted on it.

It is advisable to avoid swimming in waters where the box Jellyfish has been
sighted to reduce the risks.

The animal species with interesting biological facts making it interesting for
scientific research.
