Abstract (150-200 words)
This presentation is about the effect of PBL methods in integration
with ICT (Information Communication Technology) at the lessons of
English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/EFL) to enhance the
higher order thinking skills in secondary school learners. This
presentation aims to share the results and findings of the Action
Research Project (ARP) conducted at NIS (Nazarbayev Intellectual
School for gifted and talented children, Kazakhstan) school to see the
effects on the level of learners’ thinking. It will first describe PBL
method and how it can be applied at English classes with further
explanation of the use of ICT to solve real-world problems. Then it
will describe the effects on Grade 8 (middle-school) students’ thinking
skills based on the analysis of the qualitative research design. The
participants of the study are 10 Grade 8C students who were the focus
during the research. The English proficiency level of students is from
low-intermediate to higher-intermediate. Research site is NIS of
Chemistry and Biology in Aktau, West Kazakhstan.
