FISSION REACTION
Definition:
The process of splitting of a heavy nucleus into small fragments is called nuclear fission.
In this process a large amount of energy is released.
When Uranium-235 atom is bombarded with a neutron, it splits into two lighter nuclei
Barium and Krypton. Each fission reaction take place in certain nuclei .the fragments
formed releases neutron and goes into beta decay which is accomplished by gamma
decay. One fission reaction can produce 2 to 3 neutron per fission reaction. Hence if the
number of neutron is allowed to increase, the process of fission reaction become
automatically faster and faster. This is called chain reaction.
A typical type of fission reaction take places in atomic bomb when a neutron enters in
nuclei of 92U235 . This result in releases of huge amount of energy due to mass defect
conservation in parent nuclei and daughter nuclei.
