Answer All Questions (3 x 20 = 60)

1. (a) Construct an ellipse when the distance between the focus and directrix is 35mm and eccentricity
is 3/4. Also draw a tangent and normal at any point P on the curve.

(b) Construct a parabola, with the distance of the focus from the directrix as 50mm. Also, draw a
normal and tangent to the curve at a point 40mm from the directrix.

2. (a) Construct a hyperbola when the distance between the focus and directrix is 45mm and
eccentricity is 5/4. Also draw a tangent and normal at any point P on the curve.

(b) Draw the involute of a circle of diameter 30mm. Draw the tangent and normal at any point “P”
and name them.

3. (a) A circle of 50mm rolls on another circle of 150mm outside it. Name the curve. Trace the path of
a point P on the circumference of the smaller circle. Also draw a tangent and normal to the
curve at a point 85 mm from the center of the bigger circle.

(b) A circle of 50mm diameter rolls along a straight line. A point P on the circumference of the
circle is in contact with the straight line initially and at the end of one revolution. Draw the
cycloid curve traced by the point. Draw tangent and normal to any point on the curve. (15)
