Conformity

Conformity is defined by sociologists as the process through which an individual

alters his or her conduct in order to fit in with the expectations of a particular group, even if

the individual disagrees with the group's values. The term "Asch effect" refers to the way in

which an individual's judgment might be affected by the decisions made by the majority of

other people. Conformity and coordination are fundamental aspects of human culture, as well

as of the connections that exist within groups and between individuals who engage in

discourse (Hodges, 2017). Humans have a natural proclivity toward these traits. There are

two types of conformities: Normative social influence occurs when individuals conform to

the group norm in order to feel positive about themselves and be embraced by the group;

informational social influence occurs when individuals conform because they believe the

group is competent and has the right information, especially in ambiguous situations (Jost

et.al., 2018).

Our firm, Marveloys Furniture Inc., was searching for new work opportunities in

foreign job markets for our many commodities, most notably our furniture. As a result, the

manager requested that all of the marketers, including myself, rebrand both our

advertisements and our products in order to maintain a consistent presence in the market.

This was done because there were many new businesses entering the industry, and their

presence was already having an effect on our sales. I made a suggestion to the management

that it would be beneficial for us to find new markets for our goods, however, the manager

did not go along with the idea since we also needed to retain our existing clients while

simultaneously bringing in new ones. I had no choice but to comply with the directive that

the management had given on rebranding our products.

It is necessary for each individual member of a group to contribute to the

accomplishment of the group's goals if the group is to be successful and maintain its unity.

Before making a decision on whether or not to adhere to the norms of a certain group, an

individual had to give careful consideration to a number of psychological aspects. One

component of these characteristics is the collective emotional state of the group as perceived

by its individual members. It may be the way in which the two of you feel about one another

or about yourself. The personality trait that is shared by all members of the group. This has an

effect on the manner in which the group functions as well as on the conduct of its members.

These considerations will influence the thoughts that you have and the choices that you will

make when working with the group. What people say to one another and how they act after

the group has finished will give you a better indication of how they feel about the topic at

hand and whether or not they are suffering from groupthink.
