SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS
Under Armour Julio Jones E39
This lm is our newest offering born of our collaboration with Under Armour's in-house agency. It tells the story of UA's constant product innovations with the E39 technology and how it helps Julio Jones, star pick for the NFL draft, reach his true potential. Julio's performance is at the center of the piece with the graphic interface of technological data supporting him with feedback of where he is excelling and where he is needing improvement. Continuing Shilo's mission of design-infused storytelling the live-action narrative is enhanced with striking design to heighten the messaging and experience. Directed by Shilo's Andre Stringer, the aggressive and authentic performances show-off the soul of the brand and the true talents of this rising NFL star.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS
Doc2Doc - SOS: Save Our Supplies
Working in association with advertising agency Modernista, Shilo engaged Cassidy Gearhart to direct "SOS: Save Our Supplies," a visually poetic, live-action short lm that is a central piece in the new cross-media campaign for the Brooklyn-based nonpro t Doc2Dock. The rm collects and sorts unused medical supplies from the U.S. and ships them to areas of the world where they are needed. We are very proud to be part of this great cause. In this lm, powerful words are written on supply boxes, where those boxes ll up a shipping container using stop-motion animation, and in the process, tell Doc to Dock's story and convey its call-to-action. This visual visual voiceover approach uses live-action cinematography of the boxes to present a unique type-treatment and storytelling style.

PURPOSE THE WORK SERVES

We joined forces with an amazing group of people to create this viral PSA. The original purpose of this lm was to raise awareness of the Burmese people's ongoing peaceful protests against their military government's notorious human rights violations. When Cyclone Nargus hit, causing untold loss of life and devastation across the country, we immediately altered the spot to address the immediate need for aid. We hoped to compel the global community to act in the face of this tragedy.

An important goal for each of us, in every project we take on, is getting people to think. With this piece, it is not just a provocation but a call to action.

DESIGN IDEOLOGY
Design-Infused Storytelling. Driven by our passion to tell richer stories, we combine live-action, design, animation to deliver breakthrough experiences for screens large and small.
With the market becoming more and more competitive, what do you believe is a must that an artist has in his portfolio or skills?

Good ideas. You gotta bring something to the table that'll make people think.
What are your company goals?

Keep making better work and telling better stories.

It might sound cliche but the work that we do is collaborative in the most earnest and honest sense of the word. The agencies come to us with very good ideas and it starts off in a great place. Their ideas are a springboard by which we can jump forth and bring further and further to be the best end product. At the heart, that's the way we see the power of advertising, it's a collaborative process. It has its own challenges but it comes with talent that you have the opportunity to work with and ultimately make something very impactful and something you love. It's a collaboration, evolution and partnership.

MEANING / CONCEPT / PROCESS

We don't really see ourselves as VFX artists but more as directors with a strong sense of visual style. We collaborate with VFX artists who can harness and hone the authenticity. We do see a wide range of style and were always looking for things that are most visually striking and unique, stuff that really marks our work in the past. We're not concerned with one medium or another, we use them all as brushes of talent. The starting point in a VFX project is generating ideas. Next is including a script, ushing out the script, doing a treatment and than going into production. Production involves many many layers of storyboarding, previz, motion tests, editorial, rendering, compositing. We have intense critiques with ourselves and our clients at every stage. The entire process can take 2 weeks to 10 years, depending on what we're making.

APPLIED / ADAPTED TO NEW TECHNOLOGY

They currently work on: Short lms, commercials, music videos and video games. These lms are easily accessible by: Computers, Smart phones, iPads, TVs. Future Outlook: My hypothesis is that the work Shilo creates wont have to adapt so much as it will be allowed to reach its full potential. With ever increasing personal computer power to render and process information supported by ever increasing bandwidth. Loading times will diminish even as resolution and quality increases.

Do you think computer graphics changed visual advertisement and consumer behavior?

Moore's Law says that computers double in capabilities every 18

months.

Nielsen's Law of Internet bandwidth for high-end users says it

grows 50% every year. Future Advertising Platforms: Primarily cyber space. Virtual advertising in video games. World of Warcraft, Second Life, Etc. Mobile Advertising Growth: In 2011, U.S. mobile advertising is predicted to reach $1 BILLION, a 48% increase of the amount spent in 2010.

Over the years, the overarching element of technology, like computer graphics, has evolved a more sophisticated audience and the audience itself has evolved more sophisticated computer graphics. It is a cyclical effect.
