Speaking Test
This Speaking Test is to be administered after students have completed Units 1–3.
Choose one or two of the following speaking prompts for each student.
For scoring, please refer to the MegaGoal Speaking Test Rubric.

SPEAKING PROMPTS

PROMPT 1 Read aloud the following prompt. Ask the student to respond orally.

● The world faces many global issues today; for example, pollution, endangered
species, poverty, overpopulation, and disease. What do you think is the most
important global issue? Why?

PROMPT 2 Give the student a copy of the following reading passage. Ask the student
to read the passage silently (or aloud), and then summarize and respond to it in his or
her own words.

The Best Job in the World

Wanted: Island caretaker to work on one of the tropical islands of the Great Barrier
Reef, Australia
Qualifications: No formal qualifications are necessary, but candidates must be
interested in swimming, snorkeling, diving, and sailing.
Salary: $103,000 for 6 months
Benefits: Three-bedroom villa with a pool is provided for living accommodations.
Duties: Create video and write blog posts to encourage tourism to the island.

To apply, please post on our website a video of yourself explaining why you are the
perfect candidate for the job.

PROMPT 3 Read aloud the prompt. Have students discuss the prompt with a partner.
Listen and evaluate each student individually on his or her part in the discussion.

● What are current fashion fads in your country? Which fads do you think will last?
Which fads do you think will be out of fashion soon?

Speaking Test
This Speaking Test is to be administered after students have completed Units 4–6.
Choose one or two of the following speaking prompts for each student.
For scoring, please refer to the MegaGoal Speaking Test Rubric.

SPEAKING PROMPTS

PROMPT 1 Read aloud the prompt. Ask the student to respond orally.

● What common problems do people your age have? What do they worry about?
What should they do about these problems?

PROMPT 2 Show the student a picture/ photo from your coursebook or a photo you
have chosen. Ask the student to describe the picture in as much detail as possible.
If the picture is fuzzy or ambiguous invite the student to speculate about what it shows,
where it is, why, etc.

PROMPT 3 Read aloud the prompt. Have students discuss the prompt with a partner.
Listen and evaluate each student individually on his or her part in the discussion.

● Should using a cell phone while driving be against the law? Why or why not?

OR

● Should eating a snack while driving be against the law? Why or why not?

OR

● Should young people avoid fast food? Why or why not?
