The planned tweaking of the 1987 Constitution was put aside and viewed by legislators and analysts as a
distraction, even the President Marcos’ close allies give strong oppositions towards the Cha-Cha/Charter
change with even Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri saying it is futile.

The Editor has a view that many might have as they see it as not being top priority and instead of aiming
to be an investor friendly country it is wiser to prioritize the urgent needs like education and fixing the
rate of poverty.

The Philippines economy is struggling to dig itself out of its economic problems due to recent events that
impacted the country, however even when the country is in such a state corrupt law makers and officials
keep on using their wealth and power for their own interests. According to Senator Aquilino Pimentel III
the national government spending bill for the next year is P425 billion in pork-barrel type items. Added
with the over P200 billion in such allocations, the total tab for un-programmed allocations is over P700
billion, causing the proposed General Appropriations Act to breach P6 trillion hitting a record budget and
even a record level of pork type items in the countries history.

The Editor describes the corrupt officials as the Greek mythological creature Hydra in which no matter
how much you cut its head off it keeps on coming back stronger while describing the president as
Hercules where he can slay the “Hydra” by getting rid of the base or root of the problem and stop the
revival of corruption in the ranks of authority
