• SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT RAISE HIS HAT TO THE SPANIARDS

• SOMEONE WHO OFFERS RESISTANTS TO BEING ADDRESSED WITH THE FAMILIAR “TU” BY THE
BEST SPANIARDS

• SOMEONE WHO SUBSCRIBE TO A PERIODICAL FORM SPAIN OR ANOTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRY

• SOMEONE WHO READS BOOKS OTHER THAN MIRACLE STORIES AND BIOGRAPHIES

RIZAL DEDICATED TO:

3 PRIEST GOMEZ, BURGOS, AND ZAMORA WHO WEREEXECUTED BECAUSE OF THEIR SUPPOSED
PARTICIPATON IN TE FIRST REVOLUTIONARY CAMPAIGN OF MODERN PHILIPPINE NATIONALISM.RIZAL
DERIVED THE REASON TO DEDICATE THE WORK TO THEM FROM THE FACT THAT THE CHURCH DID NO
EXCOMMUNICATE THE THREE PRIEST AND THAT THERE WERE SEROUS MISTAKES IN THE
SURREPTITIOUS TRIAL WHICH LED TO THEIR DEATH. (DECIDE TO WRITE EL FILI)

 EL FILIBUSTERISMO CONTAINED THE BOOK’S VALUE AND SIGNIFACANCE, NOT IN TH

MELODRAMATIC PLOT, BUT RATHER, IN THE DIALOGUESAND DEBATES THAT RAISED THE PROBLEMS OF
COLONIALISM.

El FLILIBUSTERISMO OF EL FILIBUSTERO

 WORD FILIBUSTER WHICH HAS MULTIPLE MEANING. THE FILIBUSTERISMO IN THE NOVELS TITLE
IS DERIVED FROM THE SIMPLER TERM “FILIBUSTERO” WHICH MEANS ROMAN CATHOLIC. WHILE THE
FILIBUSTERO MEANS REVOLUTIONARY, INSURRECTIONARY AND TREASONUOUS.

 The word "filibustero" wrote Rizal to his friend, Ferdinand Blumentritt, is very little known in the
Philippines. The masses do not know it yet.

 Jose Alejandro, one of the new Filipinos who had been quite intimate with Rizal, said, "in writing
the Noli Rizal signed his own death warrant." Subsequent events, after the fate of the Noli was sealed by
the Spanish authorities, prompted Rizal to write the continuation of his first novel. He confessed,
however, that regretted very much having killed Elias instead of Ibarra, reasoning that when he
published the Noli his health was very much broken, and was very unsure of being able to write the
continuation and speak of a revolution.
 Inspired by what the word filibustero connoted in relation to the circumstances obtaining in his
time, and his spirits dampened by the tragic execution of the three martyred priests, Rizal aptly titled
the second part of the Noli Me Tangere, El Filibusterismo. In veneration of the three priests, he
dedicated the book to them.
