General Information
● Went into effect April 1st, 2023
● About 20% of the exam will contain new item types.
● New scoring models - partial credit!
● Maximum time:
○ 5 hours
● Minimum number of questions:
○ 70 scored + 15 unscored
● Maximum number of questions:
○ 135 scored + 15 unscored
Scoring Models

3. Rationale Scoring

0/1
● Used when there are a specific number of choices.
● 1 point for each correct responses
● 0 points for each incorrect response
● Total = sum of correct responses
+/-
● Used when you can select as many or as few options as you want
● +1 point for each correct option
● -1 point for each incorrect option
● Total = sum of correct options minus sum of incorrect options

Rationale Scoring
● Used for items that require you to pair information.
○ Choose both correctly = 1 point
○ Choose one correctly = 0 points
○ Choose zero correctly = 0 points

● Calls for you to review information over time.
● For example, you may review nurses notes, lab values, vital signs, progress notes, medications, or
other information.
● Any response type can be used.
Case Studies
● You WILL have 3 case studies on your exam!
● Series of 6 questions about the same client scenario.
● Information is added as the case study unfolds and subsequent questions are
asked.
