Decide which description is about adjectives and which is about prepositions. Fill the gaps accordingly.

or pronoun and other words in a sentence. They often indicate location or direction. For

example "The cat is under the table" The "under" is indicating
where the cat is located in relation to the table.

• Other common include "on," "in," "above," "below," "beside," and
"with." They help to show the position of things and give more details about the sentence.

When are used in a sentence, it creates phrases that
usually help us to understand the context better.

Many adjectives are often followed by the prepositions ‘about’, ‘at’, ‘by’ and ‘for’. Study the table
below.

Use Common adjectives and examples

+ about angry/annoyed/furious → Joe was really angry


about losing the race.

worried/upset → I was very upset about the


election result.

happy/excited → I’m quite excited about


traveling to China.

+ at good/great/excellent/amazing → Paul is really


good at playing tennis.

bad/terrible/hopeless → I’m terrible at skiing.

+ by or at amazed/surprised/astonished/shocked

+ for famous/well-known → He is famous for his


books.

responsible → At work, I’m responsible for sales


and marketing.

sorry → We are all sorry for your loss.

Important points:

• After an adjective + preposition, we can have a noun or verb -ing.


• We can include an object before the verb -ing, for example: She was upset about me arriving late.
