Social Studies and the Arts

1. What is Art?
- According to Oxford Dictionaries, Art is the expression or application of human
creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture,
producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
- Art is also the combination of basic elements: line, color, value, texture, from, and
space. It progresses to an exploration of their arrangement into meaningful
relationship of balance, emphasis, rhythm, and unity.

2. What is the value of Art in Social Studies?


- Art has multiple roles in social studies. Art may give insights on a specific period
and place's culture, history, and social challenges. It may be applied to express
society values, beliefs, and standards visually. Art may also be applied in the
classroom especially in Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences and the Bachelor of
Digital Media and Communication which they teach learners in critical thinking,
problem-solving, advanced oral communication and teamwork skills. Also, arts offers
a creative component to the study of social sciences and can help students connect
with the things they are studying on a deeper level of emotion. Art may also be used
to communicate social and political criticism, making it a tool for exploring and
understanding society.

3. How does the Power of Imagination help teachers teach Social Sciences
better?
- The Power of Imagination is the foundation of human creativity and innovation. This
is the ability where we formed mental images or concepts of things which it is not
present in our surroundings and a way to inspire our learners. Teachers use the
power of imagination in teaching Social Sciences for them to create a dynamic and
interactive learning environment which enhance their students’ understanding and
encourage them to an active participation in the said subject.

4. Explain and provide example in line with teaching Social Sciences for this
thought: “Creative expression is not limited to artistic endeavors. Still, it is
also an integral part Social Sciences”.
- Creativity does not just belong to the arts, it is an essential part of the Social
Sciences because it assist educators in exploring, analyzing, and addressing the
complex and numerous aspects of social issue. Example to this, Educators used
communication in teaching and they use creative expression or creative approach
like storytelling, visual presentations, and other multimedia tools to gained the
attention of their learnes.

5. How do Arts and Social Studies compliment each other?


- Since art may give insights on a specific period and place's culture, history, and
social challenges. And Social Studies give the context or analysis of the works. The
two compliment each other because it build critical thinking and deeper appreciation
of the difference of the world.
