Consciousness – An Understanding

The Inner- Hierarchy

In order to realize one self, it is necessary to be aware of the

subtle inner energies or the functional aspects of what is
broadly called and misunderstood as the ‘Mind’. Let us get to
know the ‘Inner Hierarchy’

The fact that mind is felt only when there is a thought. So, mind
is not an integral entity but manifests as thought. Its
relationship with senses is one of continuous inter-dependence.
Thought arises when senses come in touch with the sensory
objects and report the contact to the energy called Mind or
Manas.

Mind reports the contact to ‘Intellect’ which is the field of

discretion. The use of discrimination takes place on the basis of
past experience which is otherwise known as Memory. Memory
includes everything that is past from the moment just gone by
to the origin of incarnations.

Let us have an example. The eye perceives the presence of a

scorpion. It informs the mind. Mind reports the matter to
Intellect, which based on its memory, assesses the object as
scorpion, understands that it is dangerous and decides that it
should be killed.

Interestingly, it is likely that the could be seeing the object, the

picture may be registered upon the retina but the mind, due to
its pre-occupation elsewhere, would not recognize it. Indeed,

8
absentmindedness is ‘Absence of mind’. The object therefore,
is cognized only when the mind is in line with the senses.

Intellect (Buddhi) projects its decision upon Consciousness

(Chitta) which is an impersonal or non-discriminating reflector
like a mirror. Now, a mirror entertains no likes or dislikes in
reflecting a beautiful face or an ugly one.

Therefore if the intellect is not purified enough to use discretion

properly, Consciousness (Chitta) propels the person into wrong
action. Since action is an expression of the notion inside, the
motive binds the person to the chain effects of the
consequential results that flood in its wake.

The actor as well as the sufferer of such consequences is known

as Ego or Ahamkara. Ego is only the reflection of the Sun in the
pot of water. The problem arises when the Ego considers itself
as a separate entity – the reflection regarding itself as the Sun.
Seperative Consciousness is the result of the ego identifying
itself with a series of identities and regarding them as itself. It
forgets that the actor is different from the various roles he acts
in.

We have seen that after the realm of the Chitta, consequential

action – right or wrong is unavoidable. Thus, when Chitta learns
to stop reflecting Buddhi and is turned towards the ego, the
Seperative consciousness or the Jivatma is lost and the
identifying tendency is lost in the originality. This is knowing
oneself or being God! Where this happens with effort, as in
Yoga, it is called Samadhi. In spiritual practices, one slips from
One and recognizes two. Thus, in Sadhana, we are with God.

9
When this happens unavoidably, it is called sleep. In deep sleep
there is no reflection and in the waking state, there is no non-
reflection. Hence, “Sleep is reversible unconsciousness”. But
then, what are dreams? Dream is Buddhi (intellect) fantasizing
its memory store house. (Except in rare cases, dreams relate
only to the day to day known realm of contacts). The seer of
dreams therefore, is not the Ego. In fact he is informed of the
dream only after it is over.

The happy happening of Chitta pinning its attention only on

Ahamkara (Ego, I) in the waking state is the dawning of Wisdom
(Jnana).

Viveka (the analysis of pros and cons is the route to Wisdom. A

Jnani can function normally even without employing Viveka.
But the aspirant is charting a dangerous course if he hopes to
attain Jnana by circumventing Viveka. That is the tragic path,
plotted with accidents. It must be clearly understood that…

The Jnani is not devoid of his body, senses, mind or intellect

He sees, He feels, He has pains, but He suffers not

He knows pleasures but He is affected not

This is because he has done away with the reactionary structure

in him. There emanates from him only a natural, spontaneous
and well governed impersonal response to people, things and
events including circumstances.

He can speak in volumes, yet He is in Silence

He can laugh loud laughter, yet he is not excited in the least

10
He can speak angry words, yet he remains composed

His conscious is totally focused in ego

Anchored in his Self - He is his SELF

He alone is a great actor who is highly conscious that he is

acting and letting others to believe that he is living the role. By
keeping Consciousness constantly occupied in meaningful
pursuit, by being only impersonal in discretion, by remaining
motiveless or unselfish in discrimination by being aware, totally
and always, one is liberated while in the body and revered as
Jnani.

In short, “The Mind is the servant, Buddhi (Intellect) is the

reporter, Chitta (Consciousness) is the observer and Ahamkara
(EGO-I) the owner!”

The owner is the one experiences this and that to “Wrong

Company”. Hence, when the Ahamkara remains uninvolved,
there is no one to experience though the happenings continue.
Then “Upon whom can the world have or planets have a hold?”

The key therefore, is in stopping everything consciously,

allowing nature to flow through and observing with impersonal
indifference.

Remain Aloof – Leave others Alone!

11
Consciousness – Awareness

Consciousness is location of Ego - Awareness is location of

Consciousness.
By going back to the seat of Ego (I) it is being known as
Consciousness.

The discrimination and the recognition of the location of

Consciousness it is becoming the “Awareness”

I am here, I can see, I can feel is the base of Consciousness

(By knowing & recognizing its surroundings).
Without the presence of Ahamkara (I), there is no
Consciousness (Chittam).

The word (Padamu) is the base for Matter (Padardhamu) and

Without word there is no matter.

The proof of Consciousness (Chittam) and its location leads to

The state of Sath-Chit-Ananda.

Body and senses are impermanent and believing that they are
The doer is the basis for sorrows.

Only when there is the presence of “I”, identifying its location

is necessary.
Without being I (Nenu) and not being in an observer state,
No proof is necessary for its location.

This is the easiest path as stated by Bhagavan Ramana.

12
On Awareness

Awareness is Consciousness. Consciousness means being aware

of what is being conceived. When we are on the road, we are
conscious of the thought that we are travelling on the road and
‘Seeing everything is Awareness’. That is called the awareness
of externalities of surroundings.

We are using awareness with much deeper sense. In a way, it is

the profound awareness of the presence of unseen God in all
surroundings. So there are trees, the scene of the hills and so
on and so forth but anybody, not only me but anybody even an
animal is conscious of the awareness. If a car is coming, it
moves aside. That is alright.

In Gita, Krishna says, “Vidya Vinaya Sampanne Brahmane

Gavittastini Sunichaiva Swapakecha Pandittah Samadarshina”.
It mean the learned see the commonality, the substratum
which is supporting the external form, name and function of a
dog-eater, an elephant, a cow and a Brahmin is one and the
same. So that is pervasive also.

To know how it can be, the example in Vedanta is oil and seed.
Similarly, the essence of all matters, all that is seen and felt, all
that is changing also, externally, the unchanging, changeless, all
pervasive substratum with the basic truth is supporting. This
truth, one should be aware of. Not that one is able to see it but
one should be deeply aware of it. It is the greatest truth that
binds the whole universe! In the stars, in the sea, in the water,
in the animal, in the tree and in everything is pervaded by Him
(the Truth). The externalities, the forms, and names and the

13
changing moments and even the matter are different. None of
these are true if everything is in search. You should be aware of
the Truth, while looking at the world. Such is not the awareness
in ourselves.

It is not the mind that can do this but the consciousness. A tree
has deep roots, twenty feet below ground and 20 feet above
ground, it has leaves and branches, fruit. So consciousness is
something like that. It is into the depth, to the core of your
existence. Consciousness is the sole property of the soul. It is
functioning external Awareness and appropriate reactions.
Awareness of the external is there and the appropriateness is
also there. That is called the mind and senses.

The mind and senses are functioning as a branch of

Consciousness. It is the external aspect of it. But the innermost
other end of it is Consciousness is the Soul itself. Because the
senses and the awareness of the external surroundings before
are occupying our mental awareness, mind is not recording the
presence of Consciousness at the Soul point. Mind is looking
outwards. So when we look inwards, nothing is happening.
When the mind is trained to look, it watches and sees the
innermost, the deep foundation of Consciousness. It will find.
Mind is not doing anything. Whatever it may be, the external
feature it is the functioning of the same Consciousness. It could
be a Neem tree of a mango tree. The external world is not put
on and the attention is arrested externally. The senses are
available but the phenomenon of the world vanishes. It will not
exist. Try to see what is not changing – the unchanging and the
changeless all pervasive with basic Truth!

14
One need not try to see it literally, but just be aware of it that
there is something unchanging. That awareness leads to
experiencing the Truth one day!

When we watch a drama, we do not see the stage but the stage
is the basis on which it is used. What you have to think
ultimately is of the supporting causative principle of all. That is
all about it. That is awareness. If one asks, have you seen it?
No I have not seen but I know it is there- that will be the reply.
In the night time you do not see the sun but you are aware of
the presence of the Sun now not seen. The support is of your
own experience of having seen him in daylight. But such a
support does not exist in your awareness in the present, not
because of seeing him sometime. Here you have to wait for the
experience. Electricity will not be able to be seen while
functioning but we can always see the function. With that its
presence becomes known!

Awareness is only to know its presence. Ultimately, in a special

moment of life, suddenly the presence is felt. Also, it does not
reveal itself ultimately. When the body consciousness dies, it
will not function for all the last minute, never to be revived.
Body consciousness is not going to be revived. It almost starts
leaving the body and when it vanishes, Consciousness will not
be able to look at the Truth that has been believed to be there.
All along we have been attending to it. I know that I will be
aware of it. This awareness leads to Realization. What is now
standing between awareness and experience is the body
consciousness!

15
In a way it can also happen in what we call it a dream. The
Consciousness is the ultimate Truth. The consciousness is
disintegrated in a coma, in anesthesia, or a dream, or sleep, or
unconsciousness, or in so many things.

16
States of Consciousness in the Body

The fetus in the mother’s womb is growing. It is just a

combination of matter. There need not be a soul in it at all.
Soul can enter later. It is not obvious whether the soul has
come first and a body has started building later. Its fertilization
is over and it is growing. Soul can enter anytime!

In one book on Hindu music, and according to Yoga Saastra and

Ayurveda, the soul enters the fetus when it is 20 weeks old. In
the 21st week, the soul can enter although there may be
exceptions of one or two in every ten. It could be much earlier
but could never be late. Usually by law, the soul enters the
fetus, in the fifth month that is five weeks later of fifth month,
after completion of 20 weeks. But there is something that we
never know that there is soul at all in the evolved body (in
medical terms). When the soul is not in, how do you explain the
circulation of blood, beating of the pulses, withdrawal of the
senses, coma etc.

There are various states of Consciousness. In the latest

American Medical Sciences research, the question is ‘where is
consciousness located?’ That is now drawing their attention.
Lots of discussions are going on.

Is the Consciousness located somewhere or all over the body?

Many people say it is the brain. Almost all of them agreed that
Consciousness is the quality, the property of the brain. It is not
so. In fact, yoga can only give an answer. There is an ego
principle and a soul. Soul travels in the body from place to place
all the time. Depending on the place where the soul is located,

17
the consciousness is on a particular plane and the body
consciousness. My soul is in Mooladhara now.

In sleep I am not unconscious but not conscious of the

surroundings also. My senses are withdrawn. See the different
state of Consciousness. That is if it is withdrawn into
Molladhara without the communication system working in
contact with the rest of the centers of the brain, Ida and
Pingala, both in different conditions, it is still there but not
active.

Then the third is dream. It is different Consciousness. You may

be walking with someone in London or contacting somebody or
shopping with other people. And sit is different consciousness.
Then where is this? It has already left Mooladhara and the soul
is shifted between Mooladhara and Swadhistana. It has left its
ramparts in Mooladhara and went out. It is closer to
Mooladhara on the paths to Swadhistana. It is there in the
dream state.

Depending on these various states, what is the brain doing?

The doing part is nothing but the function of the brain. The
brain is treating the command from the soul and appropriately
functioning. The command is not from the brain to soul from
soul to brain. We react. We know these three states. The
fourth state is Yogi in Samadhi. We shall leave this subject as is
different!

In our day to day life, a man may be injured and is unconscious.

He is not dead. That is another thing. There is yet another
state. It is due to Anesthesia. When it is given, the person is

18
not unconscious. We do not say that he is in sedation but
anesthetized and we wait for two hours. The pulse rate is
normal including the heart beat and breath. Blood circulation is
normal and everything is normal. All parameters are good. It is
not unconscious but the person is not conscious. What is this?

There is yet another state, Coma Vigil. He is able to see

everybody but he does not know anybody. He does not
recognize everybody. That is called Coma Vigil. Coma vigil,
Coma and Anesthesia - these state of dream may come.

In Coma, the communication between the soul in Mooladhara

and brain is cut. It is subnormal condition. Even in Anesthesia,
if you pinch tough it is felt. So the communication with the
brain is partly suspended. Only brain consciousness is
suspended. You want that he should not react to the needle or
knife. That is all you want. That is why he is put on ‘Nitrous
oxide slightly. Only pain sensation is arrested in Anesthesia. All
other parameters are normal.

About 150 years ago there was no anesthesia. During those

times, they used to hold the patient and conduct the operation.
You know what used to happen? After the operation, the
patient used to go into Semi-Conscious state. It is withdrawal of
pain consciousness to be protected from the pain, a defense
mechanism. When a man is run down by a car and broke his
leg, he is unconscious. If he is conscious, he would wriggle with
pain. He is unconscious because his pain consciousness is
withdrawn. The word we use is unconscious, if it is Coma,
whatever it is, it is withdrawn from pain sensation.

19
So, ultimately we have to answer saying that there is soul in the
body. It is taking different positions at different times and
depending on its location inside, the part on the cerebral spinal
route, the various states of consciousness are arising. That is
what we should agree.

If you do not understand that there is soul and its location is

changing, what will you find out of what is Consciousness?
Consciousness is nothing but alertness. Even a conscious man
may be dumb or blind. Here the senses are withdrawn and
perceptions are subdued. By and large, we say we are
conscious.

Yoga Shastra is a great advance in medical science. In the study

of anatomy, the presence of life energy and the Consciousness,
they knew so much. I think one day the medical science will be
able to touch up on the secret that there is something else in
this body. it is not just the body, life and senses. There is a soul
arising in them.

Last year some medical doctors from USA came and they were
asking about Consciousness. I asked the about the Ego. Where
is the Ego – The I? Who is saying this “I”? Where is this I
located in the human body? that is also animatic. You may say
I am the body. I know that I am not the body. I cannot be
killed, my body can be destroyed, and that is where the ego is
arising. Where is that Ego? Is it in your heart? What happens
to it in sleep? It also happens with intensity. The more intense
you are – the Awareness is the nearest definition for
Consciousness. I am conscious of time. I am conscious of
surroundings and when you are walking in the streets of

20
London, you are London conscious. Anesthesia does not impair
the Consciousness. Dream is possible. Normally we do not
dream because it is not sleep. In fact many of the dreams by
and large are related to our day to day life, present time life.
Our fears, our expectations, ambitions, interactions and our
state of mind involved in matters like enmity, friendship, love,
expectations – these things do reflect in dreams symbolically.

I give an example here. A man who is big, empty having zero

knowledge, is not a Yogi. Not a spiritual person but he puts on a
show as if he is a great knowledgeable person, a wise and all
that. He is creating to create a mega image about himself in the
minds of people. In this process, he often dreams seeing
himself as naked. When such person was once introduced to
me, I straight away put this question to him. He was taken
back. In fact nakedness indicates naked truth about himself to
remember the reality.it is a reference from truth to untruth. In
fact there is no coverage in dream. The Consciousness is naked
and there are no exceptions. There is no showmanship and
hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is only in wakeful state. In the wakeful
state one can be Hippocratic and in dream he cannot which is
not in his control. Dreams are realities of reflections of life
very deeply situated in sub-conscious. They may be memories
related even to the past life some times.

They are there in time as small elements. They are coating in

soul as we call it. There is a soul travelling from body to body
and there is an element of it. That soul carries an impression in
which the past memories are there which work as tendencies,
desires and behavioral patterns. We call these as old
Samskaaras. But actually they are memories coming out of the

21
behavior patterns. But some of them are serious incidents and
in that life they are in memory as much they do not convert
themselves into a behavior pattern. So as it is in the same state
they are reproducing into it. Either the present situation has
impact on the dream pattern or remote past and serious
incidents are there to reoccur. It is a replay!

The 3rd factor about the dream is the indication of the future.
It means the Consciousness of the human being is linked to
Time. Time is up to a limit, within its frame, it is linear with
past, present and future. The future is symbolically indicated
because it is a time flow in the same stretch, uninterrupted flow
of Time. It is the flux of Time! This flux of Time is continuous.
In this Time flux of continuum your consciousness is there
somewhere. So if you like, you see ahead or hear or driving a
car. The future road is before you and you are yet to reach that
point. The car is running while the road is clear. Two minutes
later you will cross the future point. Now your eyes are able to
see the future and it is nothing but future. Your car will pass
that point two minutes later. Are you not seeing that point and
the future then? Similarly in Time Continuity (time plus
continuum), the consciousness is related to it, has a close
contact with it. The Consciousness sees the future, witnesses.
The Soul is away separating from Mooladhara, and you reach
Swadhistana Kamalam and it is not there, for the body
consciousness at the moment. It is in contact of Time Flux and
what is going to happen is indicated. This is simple logic. So the
future is also indicated in dream.

Somnambulism is yet another state. Dream acting on the body

is Somnambulism. Power of the dream is so strong! We call it

22
insecurity. Even bed wetting we call it insecurity. In
Somnambulism, the sleep is so deep that the dream is not
distortable. So he walks in sleep. It is yet another state of
Consciousness!

There is also Phantom limb phenomenon. Suppose a man has

lost a limb or left arm in an accident he is amputated. That part
of the arm is not there. But, you know, he feels a sensation, an
itching sensation on the tip of the finger, where his hand is not
there. He feels like scratching it. That is called Phantom limb.
The hand is recorded in the mind. The presence of the hand is
permanently recorded in the brain. Function of the brain is
Mind and there is nothing like mind. No object like mind is
there. So brain is functioning and even so the sensations…

“Awareness related to outer world is Consciousness”

23
Body versus Chittam Intelligence

Mind is less powerful. Chitta is the most powerful part in you.

It is what experiences good and bad. It is Chitta who judges and
also what is Dharma and what is Adharma.

It is not the body’s intelligence but the samskaaras that are

working in Chittam. The weakness or strength of the man is in
Chittam. Whether a man is timid, bold, generous, kind the
Chitta is responsible. When we talk about the qualities of the
man, the inner man and not the body’s qualities is the subject.
They are the secrets of the Chittam. They are all samskaaras.
When a situation arises before a man, whether he is bold or he
runs away from it or he breaks down, or whether he is a Jnani
and takes it sitting there without even reacting, which is the
fourth state, are all determined by Chittam. Your Jnana or
Agnana is in your Chittam.

The basic quality of Chittam is to conscious. Conscious of what?

The consciousness of “I AM”. The “I-ness” is Chittam! In that
the tendencies are placed. All tendencies are place in this “I”. I
and its contents are referred to a Chitta. That Ahanta is the
casket and that is also known as Chitta. When Chittam is not
functioning, Ahanta is still there, in sleep state. In dream state,
Ahanta is working through the mind and Buddhi. It is
experiencing without involving the body. when the body is
asleep the man may go to London and come back.

Chittam, if cleansed of all Samskaras, Ahanta is not bound to

the outer world. Then there is neither action nor reaction with
this world! the man lives with his natural normal body

24
intelligence. Chittam is a deliberate involvement in this world.
Natural living is not involvement! Eating when hungry, sleeping
when tired, going to a shadow when it is hot, these are results
of body intelligence. The body automatically takes care of it. It
is biological intelligence, sensual intelligence. Such a man when
hungry drinks gruel and fills his belly. Another man orders a
fifty course meal. Sitting on a sophisticated table in a luxurious
hall and he still finds faults with many things. These big
differences are tendencies acquired from the world by
comparison. He thinks he is rich and great.

Tendencies develop due to our attachment, involvement, in this

world. The world is not involved with you. It does not bother
about you!

A Jnani does not bother to create any impression on anyone.

He does not even think of creating respectability for himself. It
is other’s judgment, anyway, whose lever you do not operate.
So, a Jnani can create an impression that he is Ajnani and an
Agnani can create an impression that he is a Jnani. Bothe ways,
the distortions in the others are created sometimes deliberately
and some other times unintentionally. Mostly, the
unintentionally created things in the others mind evoke no
reactions from a Jnani.

25
Intelligence of Consciousness

Mind is not independently intelligent. Intelligence is born on

the soil of Consciousness. Consciousness is therefore contains
all intelligence that was in the past.

When the creation was made there was intelligence, there was
a system and the classification of forces, elements, and an
alignment of various things. If the human body and mind are
the products of that intelligence, then, it must automatically
pervade the human being also. We call people intelligent,
morons, genius and all that.

Where does this intelligence lie? In fact, there is none called

intelligent or unintelligent, from the point of view of the
Consciousness. Consciousness is always intelligent. If it is
brought to the surface of thought, he is called an intelligent
man. One who does not do so is called unintelligent. Whether
a man is intelligent or not, consciousness is equally intelligent.
It is there even in an animal and plant worlds but it is a
‘Programmed intelligence’. It is made to work in a particular
direction, in a particular wavelength, and for a particular
purpose for producing a particular result like a fruit or a flower
or a certain pattern of a leaf. It is programmed in a limited
manner.

The human consciousness is not programmed with any

limitations. The limit is developing from zero to infinity. A man
develops the intelligence of breaking a stone sharply by
attacking it in a certain vintage point. From this to attaining
Nirguna Brahma or Brahma Jnana, the consciousness is

26
containing that intelligence. It can be used by choice of any
one. Even the choice of using it is one intelligence. From where
has this come? It is from Consciousness only. You want to see
Brahman you want to experience liberation that also is the
intelligence of the Consciousness.

In Vedas, this intelligence of Consciousness has been given

expression to. It has been expressed in a million formulate, in a
million thoughts, in million words. To try to understand the
meaning of the Veda is not an intelligent exercise. The very
desire understands the meaning of Veda is on account of the
limitations of intelligence from consciousness to the mind. A
Rishi who is trying to understand the meaning of Veda is trying
to understand the universe. Our universe is experienceable in
the consciousness but it has another quality. It is not only the
storehouse of all the intelligence from the time of creation up to
this it has one more property that is expanding.

The word to ‘expand’ comes from the Sanskrit root ‘Brih’. From
‘Brih’, Brahma and ‘Brihat’. Brihat is highly expanded. There is
Brihat Chandas also. When the Mantra is received in a particular
Chandas as I said, the consciousness is flowing out into the
universe to establish a contact of the ego with that distant truth
anywhere. Where is the need for distance when the entire
consciousness is containable in the universal intelligence
within?

Universe has a physical expanse. When we talk of Vaikunta or

Swarga, we are obviously talking of locations and distances.
Consciousness is mobilized and endowed with that particular
wavelength. It is capable of travelling there. The mobilized

27
consciousness assuming the wavelength, can flow into the
distant planet or place and look at it, have it, and bring it to your
experience level and make you understand the universe. This is
the process but what is happening here? People say Swarga
and Naraka are distant places to the world. A Vishnu Bhakta is
going to Vaikunta on account of his devotion to Vishnu.
Someone is going to Kailas because of his devotion to Shiva.
Someone else has indulged in immense sin and he is going to
Naraka. Someone has been charitable and doing deeds and he
goes to heaven. How do you explain this phenomenon? He has
not sought this he does not mobilize his consciousness with a
wavelength which is voluntary process. Involuntarily, how is the
soul going to such places?

There is an essence of Consciousness in all the deeds. In killing

somebody, although you use hands and a weapon, the
consciousness which is accompanying the body has taken a
particular destructive wavelength, called cruelty. Technically
speaking, it is a wavelength. It has activated a physical body to
attack another physical body. but, there is a wavelength
already in this, inherently, in this attitude. That wavelength is
something that takes the soul it binds the soul in it and takes it
to a particular region where, that wavelength is automatically
directed to a place where the soul suffers. It suffers privation
and pain in other living creature. It is rebounding on his soul by
virtue of this wavelength that the soul had directed to another
body has been redirected back into the same soul. Suffering of
the other soul while in the process of being killed rebounds the
same way. It goes to a particular station and gets this agony
reflected on it. If it is immediately thrown back into the same

28
soul, he would be suffering on the spot. Why there is hell and it
is experienced for long? So, there is a station.

In the space, there is a particular point to which this suffering

wavelength has sent a wave. That is exactly reflected back to
this individual soul, giving him that kind of suffering. So, there is
intelligence, in that universal consciousness.

Every suffering is the reflected wave of our actions in the past.

It has to go. Like the electromagnetic wave that has been
released from a point on the earth. It is going to ionosphere
and is reflected. It is travelling around the earth and reaching
the particular station and if the radio receiver is tuned to that
wavelength, it receives it. There is no experience of happiness
or sorrow, pain or pleasure without its originating from
ourselves.

In some cases, the reaction comes immediately. Like the

scriptures say offense committed against woman results in
immediate reactions…this matter not only of the wavelength
but of the speed as well. The speed at which a wave is thrown
decides the time span of reaction. So the speed of the
wavelength is provided by the perpetrator. He is aware that the
other man is a noble brahma Jnani and yet he is killing him. A
man who is consciously killing a scorpion is not in the
consciousness while killing a human being. He is not in the
same time frame of mind when he is killing his own benefactor.
This awareness lends its speed to it. That explains. In killing in
the battlefield, both are exactly in the same wavelength
towards each other. This is not killing!

29
Consciousness has enough intelligence because of its past
experience of its existence in this universe. It knows the
language of the Karma which is what immediately reflecting
back. It has not only indulged in karma now but it has indulged
in the similar karma in the past also. It has also experienced the
result of this. There is an old memory secretly working. In
other worlds, in the depths of the sub-conscious, which
surrounds the ahankara that surrounds Jiva and which is
removed from the mental frame by a distance, there is
awareness, a stored up memory of past actions and
experiences. So, when I said that a man is suffering as a result
of his own actions, it is nothing but memory coming to the
surface. Old memories that have been hiding inside like slush
on the floor of the ocean come to the surface when the ocean is
churned, when the consciousness is disturbed!

The potential nature of the consciousness is experienced. What

is an experience? Mind is being directed. I am a miser you are a
liberal man, why? I am not able to part with even hundred
dollars while you are giving away a thousand just like that.
How? How do you explain sacrifice? We call it Samskara.
What are Samskaaras? A shapeless essence of the past
memories!

All experience is not analyzed by us. So, man is living on the

plane of his mind. Below this plane, there are depths. Different
planes of time and existence, deep below the mind. Some
memories relate to what you did 20,000 years ago. Yes, you r
present might have been a whale in the sea, who knows?

30
Today, you are afraid of seeing it! The same soul might have
entered into the plane of your existence in that time. Your
existence is not directly related to that time. Various bodies
and actions, that kind of existence has also been there. So it is
divided horizontally and vertically also. Several things are there.
Sometimes, a vertical column answers your present, some other
time, the horizontal column does so. It is a big riddle. In this
God has been very kind. Universal mind is God. Universal
Consciousness, Universal Intelligence, the sum total of all this is
God! That God is kind to you and he has insulted you from all
these planes, enabling you to live normally, comfortably
without thinking of any other thing except the present. So, man
is able to live in the present because the past does not bother.
It does not come to the present.

Tendencies they peep out which are only the tip of a huge past -
A long deep past. Because you know the kindness and grace of
God, it is to be understood properly. Today, you are in love
with somebody and sacrificing everything for that person. In the
remote past, that person could have been your bitter enemy.
Suppose you remember your past, your present tendencies will
all become awry. I can tell you, a disciple who harms his Guru
becomes a more devoted disciple in the future. A man who has
been benefited by somebody but not showing any gratitude and
living selfishly, he is bound to travel a long distance and come to
the same point to the same Guru in the future again as a far
better man. Only thing is he loses lot of time. You know,
gratitude is a virtue that is lacking today but the desire to get
the benefits is there. But, the sense of gratitude which is not

31
yet born, will take its own time to be born in his consciousness
over a time. So, in that sense, we take a big detour.

Gratitude again is a wavelength. That is why who have thereby

they are repaying their debt. Harmony is established between
these two. That harmony is the real secret of the disciple
travelling with the Guru. Not independently, not away from
him, not separated from him, the disciple travels with that
speed of the Master.

This is a kind of unison affected. Complete harmony with

anything is the secret of success. What is complete harmony?
Consciousness joining the consciousness of some other and
dovetailing into it, like butter goes into the shape of the
container! A hard object refuses to unite with the other. This is
the difference. And then there is the presence of the Master.
His knowledge, his experience of the world, his tendencies to
sacrifice, helps, sympathize, pardon, excuse and ignore anything
and anybody. That is the very virtue that has enabled him to
pervade that aspect, that part of the universe, which is
permanent. All karma and karma’s results are impermanent.
That is what redeems you. So good karma and as bad karma
are impermanent. They are ephemeral, temporary and they do
not last long. Either you win heaven by being a demon
(Raakshsas), directly attacking it and occupying it or you may
win it by being a very learned and clean Brahmin doing Yogam.
Both are the same. They do not last long because whatever has
been created one day has to come to an end one day!

For karma it was created. It was not there before karma was
indulged in. what was not existing one day comes into

32
existence another day but that will not last forever. All Karma is
impermanent and it melts away. Behind this law of karma,
there is Universal Intelligence, a particular truth from out of
which the creation has been made by that Supreme
Intelligence. That Brahman is permanent. And whatever is not
related to Karma and its results in this creation is Truth.

How do you define Brahman, how do you define Truth? Truth is

something that is not the result of some thought or some
Karma. If it is, it has a beginning and in that case, it is not Truth.
That part of the Universe which is not this is Truth. That is one
way of saying. That permanent thing is achievable through this
very Consciousness, which has been defined as capable of
reaching the unlimited elements of this creation by expanding.
The property of expansion is inherent in it. It is capable of
expanding by choice into the truth part of the universe and not
touching the ephemeral contents of this creation.

What comes in the way of expansion is Limitations. Several

limitations! Say, it has been bottled up. How do we tackle
these limitations? That is exactly the Sankalpas (Intention).
What enables you to come out of these limitations is OM.

Remember I told you about the letters, wavelength? All the

letters are the outcome of OM and they go back into it and
merge. There are 26 letters in a triangle and OM is at the center
of equilateral triangle. These letters or sounds make languages.
A language is collection of words. Every work has a meaning.
That meaning is something which is experienced and seen by
the senses of the human beings in this world. So, forms, the
names of the forms, the letters in the names and the sounds in

33
the letters are all coming from OM. Any sound is the outcome
of OM. In OM, all sounds are losing their identity and existence.
In the process, the letters also lose their identity. When letters
go, the meaning of letters also goes away! OM, the beginning
and end of everything remains! OM is the beginning and end of
everything, remains. It remains unaffected because it has to
give birth to another creation. In another sense, it has been
described, the mother never dies, only the mother’s children
die. OM is the Mother and that is the Brahman!

If you do Tapas and expand after something, what happens to

the Consciousness?

What is happening to the wave in the water? Is it permanent?

Is not disappearing over time? After gaining some distance,
what happens? The sea remains! Millions of waves are born
every minute. All of them are disappearing and becoming water
in the sea.

Our ego is setting our Consciousness into motion in a particular

direction, caused by tendencies. All these tendencies, having
expressed themselves as desires and actions, get lost in the
Universe, in the ocean of matter. Then the Consciousness
remains.

Remember that all these ripples have been set into motion,
brought into existence by the memories of the past taking
shape of the desired and actions. None of those things is having
a life time existence. Everything is disappearing. One who is
aware of this has a different character and conduct. The one
who forgets this has an altogether different character and

34
conduct. A man conducts himself in a particular way when he is
not aware of it….

Remembering the impermanence of everything in the world is

Jnana. Remembering the impermanence of the ultimate matter
is also Jnana! Either way you are redeemed. When you
distinguish something permanent and something else is not,
you are said to be in the state duality (Dvaita Sthiti). The
Advaita state is one extreme. Either this or that!

Do not fight with the mind! helps. Use the same mind to
understand the Truth rather than fighting with it. That is where
Vedanta helps. It tells you to put your mind in the right
direction. But, Vedanta has become to intellectual and too
much of intellectualism is beyond the scope of ordinary
intelligence and let us not burden ourselves with that.

I have said OM is the Truth. May you know that Om is

permanent! Whatever is not OM is impermanent, including
your body. Neither your body nor your mind is permanent.

If the mind is filled with OM, it becomes permanent. Put

yourself on the track of thinking about that OM. Tell yourself
repeatedly about that. Nachiketha held onto this secret about
OM. All that you see has come out and the product of OM. Into
OM it disappears. That secret formula is given to us by the
Vedic seers and Rishis.

Remember one thing, never try to understand the meaning of

OM, only remember OM! If you start thinking about the divinity
and the meaning of OM, your mind would be indulging in a
wasteful exercise.

35
OM is nothing you can see, hear, or experience that has come
into existence like you. It is the cause of anything disappearing
into non-existence. That is it. Everything is Brahman and the
manifold universe is born out of it.

Do not think that you have to do a very difficult, nearly

impossible exercise which is not known to your body and mind.
Dissolution is simple, creation is complicated. Never attempt
dissolution through the complexity of creation. Short-circuit the
creation to go in to that point of dissolution. That is the worldly
wisdom which is the pre-requisite for ascent. Sri Krishna is the
greatest example of this also. He was totally aware of
everything that is created. Both are not possible to ordinary
human beings. It is not necessary either. Proper or improper,
our aim is not live. We do not want to be floundering in this
Universe. We do swim and we do know that perfect swimming
is nearly impossible. The ‘Ekam’ in the Verse ‘Sarva Dharma
Parithyajyo…’ is OM. All the letters are born out of that OM.

Translated portion from Telugu: “The indweller knows

everything and not as much to the mind. One may feel to have
learned a new thing. Something has told me from inside and id
did not about it till yesterday is what one may say. That means
that you have already known it before. When you say that it
surfaced into your mind means that the indweller is all knowing
and nothing that is unknown to him. We will never know the
depth of Inner man’s knowledge. Because one is not aware of
the inner-man’s depth of knowledge, one thinks that he thought
of something. For the same reason praying to the indweller to
make you aware of the inner-man’s knowledge and the wisdom
will enable you to earn it!”

36
Animal and Human Lives

There can be a much nobler animal than a human being. There

can be a much inferior human being than an animal.

The animal exhibits certain love, gestures, resentment etc. they

are seen as aspects of Satvic Guna. They are instinctive and not
intellectual. The animal is instinctively innocent. It does not
have jealousy, hatred and the nature of acquisition. It is
incapable of committing any of the sins that a human being
commits. That is why a soul is sent into an animal body to wash
its sins, as there, it is incapable of committing further sins. This
is the grace of God. It is to make it convenient for the Soul to
cleanse itself instinctively and automatically that God has
created the mechanism to send the same soul into an animal
body. It does not live too long, whereas without achieving
anything, a man may live for a hundred years leading an
infructuous and useless life. The most fruitful living, for
cleansing, is in an animal body, which is normally very short. No
animal is allowed to die its natural death. The animal is not
desirous of indulging in anything as it is purely propelled by
instincts alone. One the contrary the human being’s actions are
governed by self-motives! Though it is said that a human life is
invaluable man is foolish. Is anything about him say, skins,
bones are useful? Then how do we say that his life is
invaluable? Yes! It is the purpose of his life which is invaluable
as it spreads before you invaluable opportunities like Tapas,
Dhyana and so on. If they are not utilized life is not rare or
valuable. So human life is a great opportunity to elevate
himself. It is a golden gate for going up! Man not only does not
make use of it but finds out a side gate to get into hell. So there

37
is no great difference in the body or life force between an
animal and a human being. The opportunity makes human life
great! He can obtain Brahma Sakshatkara or go it hell. Man
commits sins and animals cannot. To cleanse the sins that he
commits in various lives of 100 years each, he is sent into animal
body and his Karma is washed within a short span of say, 12
years. If a man has to wash his karma in human body, after
committing numerous sins, it will be a horrible experience. It
will be a long life of disease and poverty.

God is compassionate towards the Soul (Jeeva). That is why he

sends the soul into an animal body. It will not feel sorrow in
spite of the difficulties. Is it not Grace?

38
Man’s Opportunity for Evolution (January 4, 1997)

In this creation, the Puranas say that there are 84 lakhs of

species. Of them most fortunate is the human being. Fortune
does not lie in being happy - It lies in ones being in more in
opportunities. It lies in his ability to find out how best he can
serve himself. This is called Wisdom. This wisdom is the special
gift of God to the mankind!

All the species are taking their re-birth in this elemental matter
according to their destiny. For example, the tree is very similar
to old age and then it dies. The same thing is common with the
human being. It is born, it grows, it bears fruits, suffers from old
age, and then it dies.

The same thing is common for human being. But the main
difference is that the human being is aware of his existence! He
is thinking of himself. It is not as though the tree does not have
a mind of its own. That mind in the tree is called instinct. That
instinct is serving it only to preserve itself. if there is a cyclone,
or if there is a pest or if there is any trouble to the tree, this
instinct in the tree is finding a way out to preserve itself only
against the pest. That is against any attack on it life. But at the
same time, it is not thinking of its own existence or about itself.
Therefore, we also have an instinct and over and above that, a
mind.

Indian philosophy has divided that mind into four stages. The
basic mind is Manas (thoughts). It is closely attached to the
body and its functions and its communication with the outer
nature. There is another higher level to mind called Buddhi

39
(intellect) and it is the discretion. It is memory. From his
previous experience he knows how to react with what he sees
and hears.

The next higher level to Buddhi is Chitta (Consciousness). That

is Consciousness conscious of itself and its surroundings. The
next higher level one is the Ahamkara (Ego). Ego is closest level
of mind to the Soul in the body. That is when Soul is embodied,
is possessed of Chitta as the Consciousness.

There is no Consciousness without the body/senses although

the Soul can exist. Soul when it is able to go into a body, it is
conscious at first, then Buddhi (Intellect) and then Manas
(mind). In other words, the stages of evolution are the Self-
Consciousness,Body-Consciousness,Surrounding-Consciousness,
discretion and mind. Wisdom and everything follows. These
things are totally absent in a tree. These things are present in
animal kingdom and birds, but not so developed. At the most
they are serving their physical security and existence.

God in his great love for mankind and for all types of souls has
provided this nature to the souls so that the soul may evolve
over a number of births. Whether it is the trees, birds or
animals or whatever, the soul is progressive and ultimately
acquires the human body. This is the mechanism of human
body. This is the mechanism of Wisdom. It must have some
purpose. Otherwise, why should a soul grow into a human
being from the animal world? There ought to be some purpose
for this. That purpose known to the mankind, approachable by
the man, realizable by the man, is called the Grace of God.

40
The grace of God does not consist or our wealth of health
because they are part of this matter. Whatever he has already
given us in the name of Nature is called his creation. There is no
special grace in this. God’s grace consists of the man’s wisdom,
which if correctly used, can elevate himself to the level of God
himself. This wisdom therefore to be used by all of us, for not
any physical happiness, subjects or conditions but to draw our
own self which is not fare off to seek, which is within oneself,
which can be reached. The mechanism and path have been laid
very clearly by God and it is a must to be achieved. This is called
Realizing the SELF and indirectly realizing GOD, the maker of
this path and mechanism and the possibility of achieving it.

Nature has two directions. The human soul is not inert and it is
Dynamic. It is absolute, pure, and clean not polluted by
anything. Interestingly, it is not polluted but pollution of
surroundings that is the body and the self therefore must take
the path of transcending this pollution and realize itself as that
pure, original, permanent, imperishable happiness itself,
because it is Truth itself.

It is in our experience that we feel happy whenever we hear the

Truth, whether the Truth is good or bad. Truth itself is sweet!
Suppose our own son in the household comes to the parents
and admits that he has committed a mistake. It may be a crime.
The first reaction of the parent is to be happy that he is
speaking the Truth. So, Truth interestingly enough is happiness
itself. Therefore, God in his grace, having provided nature to
the souls for evolution has laid down in very clear terms. All
knowledge that is necessary for man to evolve has been
provided at the very beginning of creation and not at a later

41
stage. The simple logic is if God were to be a well-wisher of
entire mankind, of all souls, he cannot delay this revelation to a
future date. The very first human being that walked on earth
must be provided with this Truth. It is only then that we can say
God is graceful! There cannot be any revelation at a later stage
and in that stage whatever that is happening in the history of
mankind, should not be called revelation but recalling of old
memories that had been given to the first man on earth, that
has been forgotten and that has been brought back to memory
by someone at a later stage repeatedly. That is called the births
of religion! The primordial Truth that has been given at the first
moment of creation, we recall it to memory again and again.
Now, what is this “In the path”? The second question is what
can be this path?

The ancient Aryan culture tells us that it is nothing but Tapas.

Tapas is one’s concentration and meditation; concentration on
the achievement of the goal and meditation on the path. One
must be extremely serious and set upon on this goal. That
process is Meditation!

Any physical object that is known cannot be concentration.

Concentration must be the goal itself. That is the Self within,
the nature of which is not yet known to our mind, the quality of
which is given to us by learned men and it is here that the Guru
comes into picture.

Guru knows the nature of the Self and is also aware that God’s
grace is equally distributed all over; there is no greater man or a
lesser man. It can be achieved by anyone who seeks it. All that
is necessary is the set goal and concentration to be diverted. It

42
does not consist of anything like change in ways of living or
dressing or eating or speaking any particular language or
praying in a particular language at any time. Now, all these
things are very basic things of nature. They do not matter at all.

Concentration of the goal is an attitude. It is a condition of the

man, a real man. He may be speaking, eating or doing anything
in this world because all life is material. There is nothing like
spiritual life. Life is material and life is natural! The food, the
hunger, the sleep the thirst all things are natural and material.
The inner man’s attitude alone is concentration! It is constant
thing. It is not divided into periods or timings. There are no
periods for concentration. There are no periods for meditation.
Every moment in life must be dedicated to this constant
attention. There are no physical techniques. There is only
attitudinal constancy. In this we have a will automatically.

43
Consciousness – Time I (23.9.1999)

It is said that time began one day. It means that creation

began! What is time in the absence of creation?

Time is Consciousness and it is Consciousness that experiences

Time (Kalam). If there is Consciousness of Creation there is time
and if there is time there is Consciousness. In this way keeping
Consciousness as the reference point we are defining time
looking at the dimensions of Time.

We sleep at 10pm at night and wake-up at 7am and the clock

moves from ten to six and a new day has begun. All this is
within Consciousness, nothing more. If we go beyond
Consciousness then time has no Consciousness. If realized this
way, then he becomes a Yogi, a Jeevanmukta and he will
become the embodiment of Time (Kaala) itself. All the great
people like the Aryan Rishis are in this Consciousness.

Time has the power to bring any object into its consequential
state. Without evolving, it can transport the object into its
evolved state. This is possible for the entire living beings. An
object of wheel of time is on top of the wheel and after some
time, it reaches the bottom and with the same speed it reaches
the top again. It is possible to speed up the process by speeding
up the wheel of Time. These examples are to prove that it is
possible to go beyond the body-consciousness, which is again
Earth Time Consciousness which is again within the Earth Time
scale. This is the secret of yoga and power of Yoga that can be
used in a new different dimension.

44
Consciousness – Time II - (17.9.2000)

Time is very interesting phenomenon and one of the most

complex subjects that anyone can ever attempt to understand.
If you understand all about Time, you have Understood God!
Lord Krishna said in the Gita, “Kaalosmi’, I am Time. So
understanding time is an understanding of Him.

Time is of course is an experience! Then who is the

experiencer? Consciousness and not the mind is the
experiencer and mind is not at all the experiencer. People are
confused. They think mind experiences. Consciousness
experiences anything and mind notices it. That is memory. If
mind were to experience, it would disappear and it would not
know how to recall at all.

An experience is watched by the mind because it capable

watching somebody. Conscious experiences, it recalls. Like in a
computer, certain things are stored and recalled when wanted.
Well, there is a very complex science about mind and
experience. Apart from that, Consciousness is constantly
accompanying the body. Body is the bridge between the
surroundings and Consciousness. Consciousness is body
consciousness in normal sense. Even beyond the body the
consciousness can experience anything. When consciousness is
having the darshan of Ista Devata, God, then that is God
Consciousness. They become experiences of the Consciousness.
So, consciousness is the platform the stage on which life is lived!
Consciousness is equivalent of Chittam (intelligence). We have
to find somewhat closest equivalent in English and use them for
our convenience.

45
When we are in deep sleep, is the consciousness experiencing
anything? We measure time by events. Sunrise is an event, so
is sunset. We are measuring about 12 hours from sunrise to
sunset and we call it daytime. Suppose you are in space, there
is no sunrise or sunset there! So the time experience as you
have it on the earth is absent somewhere else. Time however,
is still passing and only the measuring time piece is lacking.

We do not need the clock at all. There is the sunrise, then

midday, afternoon, anti-meridian, post meridian, a.m. and p.m.
and all these things. When time pieces were not made, people
were still measuring time. There the consciousness is the
apparatus to measure the time, milestones of time like sunrise
and sunset. Even in a state of sleep, is he experiencing
something like the space position? There is no sunrise or sunset
recorded in sleep time. He may be awake in space and yet
there is no sunrise. So there is no measuring material. He is not
watching any clock in sleep, but suddenly, around sunrise, he is
waking up, because of habit. The body has its own clock known
as body clock. What happens in international travel is that the
body clock has to suddenly adjust, and that takes time. The
secret is that Consciousness, without the aid of materials of
measuring time, not only time pieces but sunrise and sunset as
well. Basically sunrise and sunset are the most basic and
important phenomenon that make us aware of the passage of
time. I do not really depend on time pieces. These things are
available when awake.

What about when you are asleep? Are you watching the earth’s
motion around its own axis, sinking towards the east, to meet
the rising sun? Earth is rotating eastward on its axis. The body

46
and mind are sleeping and consciousness is experiencing time.
If the consciousness were not to experience time, we could not
be growing. Our lifetime is a fixed quantum of time.

Time is more important word. Time is lifetime. We are passing

through this life time even in sleep state. How is the body
growing? Is it biochemistry of the body? no, biochemistry of
the body only makes it grow older, but the lifetime is something
related to the soul inside the body, and not the body. So, the
soul is passing through that time and recording the passage of
time. This means Consciousness is experiencing time, without
surroundings, without watching sunrise and sunset, or looking
at a place. The experience of the time of Consciousness is
evolution of the soul!

One does not have to be surrounded by phenomenal

surroundings. A town, place, home, happy conditions, unhappy
conditions, sickness, health, eating, playing, these are all
activities of the body. These things should not be taken as
living. Living is passage of time in Consciousness. That leads to
evolution. That is place on which soul evolves. Evolution is the
ultimate time that all of us are experiencing because
Consciousness is experiencing.

Then how did the Yogi’s divided the time in the past? Time is
individual and it is unaffected by events. Time is an endless
canvass on which we locate events, by coordinates. Then
events disappear. The experience of the events goes! Time
remains. In time, worlds are born, worlds live, exist for a while
and time swallows them!

47
We can measure the length of time that the world existed and
Kaliyuga lasted. In other words we are talking about events and
ascribing to it a certain length of time. Distance between two
events. He was born in 1928 and gone in 2002. What is 200
and 3000? These are still milestones in the sky, as unreliable as
un-locatable. There is nothing in it. So that particular truth,
which unaffected by what happens in it, stands as reference to
describe the events, the extent of the events, the scale of their
existence and disappearance. So he says, “with reference to me
everything is happening, I am unaffected, but I am the referee.
Without me, you do not know the world or yourself, the extent
of your own existence.” The extent of one’s own experience is
time in terms of time.

Consciousness is experiencing time even in sleep, even when it

is located in space where there is no sunrise. We have said
what is experience of time by consciousness? Consciousness is
not related to the body in sleep state. Therefore body is not at
all necessary for the consciousness to experience time.

We seem to be thinking so during wakeful hours. Constantly

looking at the watch house time, club time, play time, drink
time, and sleep time – all silly things. We qualify events
because unqualified time is not known to us and that is the
Truth! If there is no qualification for time, we do not know
what it is, how it can be. You do not know what to call it. Can
you understand time as it is? Pure time! Consciousness is the
Nature, the Mahath. That is known as the entire creation,
consisting of 14 Lokas of space, known as Lokas with no
communication between them like water tight compartments.
This is one Consciousness and Total Consciousness. From

48
Eswara, MahaVishnu, Brahma, the lower worlds, the lowest
world, the human world, the Raaksha in the Paatala, all have
one single Consciousness alone. That is why in sleep, your
world sleeps.

In wakeful state, you live in your own world. Every individual

lives in his own world. There is nothing like a common world in
which we all live in. We interact while living in our own
respectful worlds. In Consciousness however, we are all one.
There is one consciousness that pervades the whole universe.
Uni-Verse means singular vision! That singular vision is
Consciousness, known as the ‘Chittam’ the higher world of your
choice, by effort, by appropriate procedure. Then your
individual, material daytime, individual world consciousness
ceases to exist. In wakeful state, this is suspended in you in
your world. When pure consciousness devoid of your
complexity of life in a wakeful state, you are in consciousness
that pervades the whole universe. In that state you can
communicate with Shiva, Vishnu, with Lokas, with Paathala,
anywhere and with anyone!

The size of the Universe is immense. It is not small. You are not
small when you are in pure Consciousness, because you
pervade the whole universe. In pure Consciousness, you are
one with anyone of your choice in this Universe. That is known
as Samadhi. In sleep, all of us can move into the state of
Samadhi by appropriate practice. Our location in a human body
has limitations in capability, in size, senses, and everything. In
this sense, you are limitless in pure Consciousness, but that
Consciousness, in wakeful state is filled with projections of the

49
material world. interaction with others, Sukham, Dukkham, all
these are projected to the Chittam in the wakeful state.

When the lights are off, there is no projector working and the
screen is white and dark also. That is the pure screen, on which
you can interact with anyone, anywhere, and you are there, and
you are with the entirety of time. Therefore, the past as well as
the future is seen in terms of events of time. You refer to the
events of time as the present and future, Brahma Loka or past
Yugam. We are going through the 28th Kali. 27 Kali Yugas have
passed. The four Yugas taken as a unit, 27 cycles are over and
three fourths of the 28th cycle is over, may be not the 3/4th but
9/10th is over now. All the Yugas are divided into 10 parts. 9
parts are the other three Yugas, and the one part is this. Kali
Yuga is very small and it is not big at all. One should not look at
the immense 432,000 years and say my God! Of course the
34200 will vanish into thin air when you say my God!.

There is nothing like long time and short time. There is only one
time. What do you mean by long time? How can you qualify
time as long when time is immense? You are only six feet and
may life for 80 years and every day you are growing older.
Consciousness in you has already experienced the immensity of
time. The Consciousness laughs at the man who talks of the
short and long time. It is time itself. Try to understand this. If
you meditate on time, you meditate on pure Consciousness.
Time without the world the Lokas and without Creation! Try to
imagine that. Is time space? No, space is within time. Like the
dentures in your mouth! Why? They cannot only be taken off
and they drop off. Then space closes and time remains! What
again is Space? Where there is material, there is space. If

50
there are Lokas, there is space! If Lokas are collapsing, space is
collapsing. Then Time remains. What is why you are hearing
scientists talk about matter and anti-matter. Anti-matter is
nothing but anti-space. If matter is equal to space, anti-matter
is space collapsing!

If you can meditate on these things you can understand. In your

Consciousness, out of your mind and body, in the sleeping state,
you are experiencing; you are becoming God, because your
consciousness is experiencing time. That is Samadhi and Maha-
Samadhi! That state of Samadhi is always experienced by
Brahma, by Vishnu, by Rudra and even by great Sages in every
Loka.

Meditation is on the nature of time! Who meditates? What

happens to the mind? It gets lost. Mind disappears. Then you
have the experience of the Samadhi and you are in Yoga Sthithi.
The word Yoga means something that ‘to-join’. The what is
joining what? Your individual body consciousness is joining the
total consciousness of the Universe. That Yoga Sthithi is
attained, experienced, attained, achieved, and granted, because
who can deny you this? When mind tries to investigate this, it is
lost. When the mind is lost, it does not exist. You are in a
wakeful, sleeping state. Not exactly sleeping like you do every
night and not wakeful like you are today. Wakeful sleeping
state is Samadhi. Deliberate sleep. Think of it. Eyes may be
open, but he is not conscious of his surroundings. Only
difference is the surroundings are not conscious of this sleeping
state. Medically speaking, it can be called Coma. Vigil can be
deliberately entered into. No falling asleep! Entering into sleep!

51
And, the natural body clock attuning with Universal clock. One
way of saying it is, everything is in time.

Time is Consciousness, unconsciousness, body consciousness

and time is Universal Consciousness. Time is lifetime.
Everything can be delivered from the world time. Everything
can be interpreted with reference to what is known as time,
which is an entity. It is highly volatile, relative, which is not
absolute, as known to us, but in its absolute state, it is the
Universe. In relative state, it is the world of the individual!

Om is the sum total of Universal Consciousness. It is not your

Consciousness or Indra’s. Om is Universal Consciousness. Every
individual is experiencing his own individual consciousness, by
cutting of his mental contact although the consciousness is not
separated from the Universal Consciousness. In fact it is already
in tune with it. You cannot cut it off. There, the soul is tuned
with it. Soul develops the Ego on account of Consciousness. The
‘I’ is born in the Consciousness. Consciousness and mind are
working together in the bod. That ‘I’ disappears when the mind
disappears in the Consciousness. Then you are one with the
Universal Consciousness. That is also Samadhi, another way of
saying it.

If physical body with all of its biochemistry has to be kept in

condition, the Pranayama and Omkara in two different sessions
everyday are necessary. It keeps the body alright. Mind
functions only when called and does not function when not
called, as it is doing so now, wandering without purpose,
command or control, without achieving anything. That stops.

52
In his body consciousness, creation takes place. In absolute
consciousness, he is one with the Universal consciousness.
When the sages are silent, their Ego is suspended, mind is
suspended! The Consciousness in him joins the Universal
Consciousness. That Consciousness is in all of us. Without it the
Soul cannot exist. There is no place for the Soul except in the
Consciousness. Soul is not in the body, but in the
Consciousness. The Jeevathman is the Chittam. Not in the
heart, lungs or kidneys!

Universal Consciousness is deep within you. You are not related

to it today, as your consciousness shifted towards material,
short lived things. Hopping like a bird from subject to subject,
mode to mode, location to location. This is not living and this so
called living is exhausting! You are spending yourselves every
minute for no gains. What do you gain ultimately? If you are a
Governor of the state, what do you gain even then? What we
are doing is, we are burning out. A candle, at least gives light to
others. We are burning out, like a dark candle.

The breath control takes your consciousness from the body to

the Universal Consciousness in time, even in the Wakeful state,
in tune with the Universe. Be conscious-wise, and live in a
healthier body. And the things of the day to day matter,
through which we go, become insignificant. Also, you acquire
the power of mind. What is the power of mind? If it is in the
body it is useless. If it is coming out of the consciousness, which
is in tune with the Universe, mind is powerful. It commands
events. Your wish is your command. There is no psychological
approach to this. It is just a mechanical approach. You do not
have to know anything about the Upanishads, the Vedas or

53
Sastras; you do not have to know the yogic postures. It is very
simple. In any posture, sitting or lying down, what is convenient
to the body, this can be done.

Most of the diseases in the body get cured because the life
energy gets regulated in its circulating motion, without being
too fast, or too slow, or too much in the corner or too little in
another. These inequalities are removed. Exactly equal and
same voltage of life energy in the body will be maintained.
Fluctuations of this voltage of life energy in the body disappear.
Liver is dull, the life energy tackles it, tries to maintain a healthy
voltage. Over a time, the sick liver does not get the benefit of
the life energy circulating it, and it dies. Many things happen.

Most of the biological clock of the body is governed by the

circulation of Life Force, which is just like an electrical energy.
High quality electricity is what? Voltage! Exactly 56 cycles or
whatever! What we are getting is not quality electricity. It is as
impure as anything else we get.

54
Siva’s Projection in Space - Time & As A Witness

“Viswam Darpana Drisyamaana Nagarithulyam”.

In this description, given by Adi-Shankara, Darpanam (mirror)

refers to time. The Time energy is really Lalitha, who is none
other than Siva.

Siva by his power has first brought on him Consciousness which

has been the cause for the Timeless Space! With a desire to
create, He has created to project himself as Time which is the
cause of all Dynamism. Being also aloof and unaffected by the
projected Time, He is also the Witness of all that is happening in
Time.

When we say, “Sarvam Atheethya Lalithethi…”, the ‘Sarva’

includes all!

55
An Explanation of Wakeful Dream & Deep Sleep States

(11.4.1998)

The mind is not in this world. The world is in this mind! Your
body is in the mind. The outermost layer is called the mind.

The next threshold is Consciousness and deeper inside is sub-

conscious. Intellect or Buddhi prevails all. Intellect is also there
in Ahamkara and that is the connecting platform. It is the
thread that passes through all these flowers.

In deep sleep intellect that is the flow of current in all these

lamps is withdrawn. So, neither Mind and consciousness, nor
the ego is working there, when intellect is sleeping.

Dream is awakening of Ahamkara independently on account of

its memories of the past or the memories of the future! If
intellect were to be there it would remember everything.
Ahamkara tries to put into Intellect what it has experienced.
Intellect tries to remember something. Hence the vague
reflection of the dream! The partial remembrance is because
the minimal element of Intellect is witnessing the experience of
the Ahamkara. That is why most of the dreams are vague and
not very clear, hazy.

If Intellect were to be totally awake, it is not a dream, it is a

wakeful state!

56
Brahman and the World

Body is the reflection of the mind. There is no body without

mind. From mind the body is created!

I am justifying the above like this. Between the souls (Jiva) and
its next birth (when the soul is in space along with the
tendencies) is the birth of the mind. First the mind is born and
then the body is woven. That is the mind is born first and to
accommodate it the body is born. Mind is born from pure
consciousness of the previous birth! There can be another
interpretation for this. There is nothing like a separate mind.
Awareness of the world by Pure Consciousness, making it
forgets itself. unrelated to the phenomenal world from the
consciousness feeling, ‘I am self-sufficient’, the mind is brought
out. Mind is an off-shoot of Consciousness!

The reflection of a mirror is seen in a mirror. We calculate and

say that the image is behind the mirror. If you move your hand
behind the mirror, the image is not affected, although the
image is said to be behind the mirror. What does it mean? It is
inside the capacity of the mirror to reflect! Inside the mirror
there is a flat surface. The mirror is capable of taking things into
it and becoming itself three dimensional. The image is not
different from the mirror itself, because it is its property. The
mirror, while being itself two dimensional, is capable of giving a
three dimensional feeling.

The Brahman which is reflecting something is not affected and it

indestructible. Within the two dimensions only, mind creates
the feeling of three dimensions. Within itself (Brahman) it does

57
not get affected, its dimensions are not changed. It will take up
all the perversions of the world.

The impossible thing has become possible due to the reflecting

property!. Without piercing the mirror, the image is able to go
beyond it!

What is Consciousness? Brahman is not Consciousness.

Creation is not consciousness. In between these two there is
consciousness. It means not being Brahman and not being the
world; consciousness is able to make the Brahman feel the
existence of the world, after the world is created, by the
reflection of the world in Brahman. That Brahman which has no
form and concept of its own made to manifest as world, by the
creation in front of it. Suppose there is world, Brahman which
has no form and concept of its own made to manifest as world,
by the creation in front of it. Suppose there is world, Brahman
itself is seen as the world. because of this, philosophers are
made to think that Brahman itself has transformed into the
world.

Mirror has that non-particular common property to reflect any

object placed in front of it, like Brahman becomes what it sees.
Is it possible for anything to remain separate from Brahman and
then cause its image? There is not object that can be born of
independent of Brahman (Sarvam Khalvidam Brahman).
Brahman has a different shape as long as there is world. as long
as there is the object to be reflected there is existence of the
reflecting medium. Otherwise it is there unused.

58
The previous nature’s impression in Brahman only has
transformed into creation. This creation is reflecting in
Brahman. It is reflecting the creation keeping its properties
intact.

One only should be the Truth. Brahman and the object in front
of it cannot be truth. That is why it is named that, this is the
transformation of Brahman. Brahman is infinite but the
creation is not infinite. Creation is only transitory, but with that
property it is permanent. It is false because it is transitory in
that. So, a permanent untruth is being perpetuated. It is
endless perpetuation of an untruth. You must dwell on this
thought. Do not put the question whether this world is true or
false. You dwell in it having come to this state. If you behave as
if the world is existing, when your eyes are open, you are not
committing any mistake. Because of its transitory nature it is
made non-existing. The fundamental particles are getting
destroyed always and are not perishing in total. If an object has
the property of perishing and that is an endless process, an
illusion is created that the object is existing. Know that because
it is transitory it is false. Realize it. There is no straight forward
answer in a single word for the question whether the world is
true or false. There are two conditional answers for it. If you do
not see its transitory state/nature, it appears permanent. If you
see its transitory condition, then you know it is non-existing. If
you look to the world and not its transitory state it appears
permanent. So what is important is where you stand, that is on
which side of the screen!

What is that we should know? In Dhyana, the mind recognizes

the transitory nature is lost. Because it is lost, the knower alone

59
is existing. As long as the transitory world is being recorded you
are there in it, and you are recording the world that is getting
destroyed. The day that you know that it is impermanent, and
you are a permanent entity. The transitory scenes on a clear
screen attribute the transitory nature to it. They make to forget
the screen itself. what is permanent and unaffected is the
screen itself. the superimposed cinema makes the screen
change every minute. As soon as it is gone, the screen that is
permanent thing shines. It means it has the property to show
the permanent thing as impermanent.

Just like the permanent screen is seen after the impermanent is

over, in the same way, as soon as the impermanence of the
world is known, the Brahman that is permanent will be known
to you. The world must appear transitory when you see it in
Dhyana. That you must be able to tell. You will see itself. The
permanent pictures on the screen are making the screen
invisible. The projected cinema is making the true screen
invisible. If there are no edges or boundaries for a mirror we go
and make an impact to it.

The world getting reflected in Brahman is making the Brahman

invisible. That object which has no form of its own remains
invisible. That object which has no form of its own remains
invisible. Due to objects falling on it, it is becoming visible. So
either in the total absence of the universe or during the
presence of the universe reflecting in it, in either condition it is
invisible. You cannot know a pure mirror! Because your image
has fallen on the mirror you have known it. Otherwise you
cannot know of it. If you do not have the physical body and if
you are pure consciousness only, you will go and hit the mirror.

60
Projected universe, which is very minute getting destroyed, and
is therefore non-existing. But this projected universe is capable
of making Brahman incomprehensible, in-perceptible, invisible,
and untraceable. Screen is not traceable during the cinema.
Beware, unless you stop seeing this world, the Brahman in
which the world is reflecting, cannot be seen. Can it be seen by
only perception in world? so the attempt of the yogi’s not to
see the world and to elevate themselves in the super-
consciousness level is not totally a correct attempt. That is why
the Gnana of the non-existing of the universe will make you
separate the universe the universe from the medium in which it
is reflecting. This is discriminatory wisdom!

In Dhyana, that true transcendental object, about we had

mentioned before, if looked back from the point, where the
darted ray is projected. Then it is easy for you to see that screen
without seeing the projection, even when the projections are
moving on it. Screen minus the pictures on it, must be seen
while the projector is projecting. You have seen the screen
earlier. You were so engrossed in the projected thing that the
original was lost sight of, though you knew it. Also you know
that the projected thing is false, fleeting and the screen is
permanent. Both are known to you. You are engrossed in
recognizing the falsity. When the projection is over and the
lights are on, you are able to see the screen, because there are
no false things projected on it. You are not interested now.
That projection is false is known to one and all. For the sake of
false projection you have entered the theater spending money
but not to see the real screen.

61
No one goes to the screen taking it to be real. This is the nature
of the soul! Gnani knowing it to be false does not go to the
movie at all. Even if he goes, he can only see the screen taking
the projection to be false. Having known it is a false projection,
what pleasure does a Gnani get by seeing the movie? He is not
engrossed by the movie. If anyone takes and makes him sit in
the movie, he is not affected by the false projection. Such an
attitude must be developed in daily life. Only the permanent
backdrop must be seen.

For the one who has interest on the screen, eyes are not
deceiving the mind. Even if he is seeing the movie, he only sees
with what material is the screen is made. He thinks about it
only because his mind is set upon it. His eyes do not deceive his
mind. To which you pay attention is therefore important. We
are realizing untruth only. Realizing untruth we should not
worry that we are not recognizing the truth. Without worrying
we should start inquiring about it.

The real thing is there in AgnaChakram. It is reflecting the heart

and resulting in body consciousness of “I “ am the body this
feeling will be there till there is a body. Till this reflection there
the body will also be there.

Sadhana is to see the originals by seeing the reflection. To you

the reflection is seen without the object being seen. Reality is
beyond your reach, but its reflection is within your reach!

Someone in the balcony and not seen directly can be seen in the
mirror image. If the mirror is destroyed, the image cannot be
seen. Never can it be known. Here the reflection medium is

62
mind. If there should not be misery of seeing the false image,
the mind is to be annihilated.

Stand in the reflected spot. Look up. How you sit is not
important. Look up in the mind. Sit in the lotus posture in the
mind. You sit in a straight posture, but you must see in a
standing posture. Place yourself in the spot where light is
projected. After some time that spot will be known to you. In
that origin you will get merged. You won’t exist there. You can
only imagine as long as you exist and after wards you would not
exist anywhere. Searcher loses in the object of the search. This
is what Ramana has said, and nothing different from it. The
searcher goes and merges in it. Till the merger takes place he is
in Sadhana like this.

When seen from there, the creation perishing every minute is

felt as myth and Brahman that is permanent and the cause for
the world will be known as truth. When you are in the heart
center and see the world, the mythical nature of the world is
visualized. The day you merge in the top spot and when you
lose yourself, the permanency of Brahman will become true.
That is the Dhyana Yoga you should perform and not anything
else. Pranava must be done for tethering the mind. Do Pranava
also. How long would you do it? Till the merger you will do it.
After some time you cannot do it. Why? Because, the doer is
not there!

63
Dealings of

Energy Consciousness in Ego and Consciousness - I

Dec.7, 1984

Vedanta mentions about two birds sitting on one tree. While

one is eating the fruit (Bhokta), the other is silently watching
and witnessing (Sakshi).

The tree has to be equated with the body consciousness. The

fruits are Karmas performed by the body and what the body
receives from the external world. Fruit is grown on the tree
only with the help of the surrounding nature. The body
consciousness or the one who is conscious of the body, is
experiencing the fruit. It is the experiencer.

This body consciousness is not the doer (Kartha) all by itself. It

is the doer by the help of some other force, that we can it an
Ego. This Ego is complaining about the experiencer. We do not
say the body has suffered. We say, “I have suffered.” The
experiencer and complainer are not one and the same!

The Ego is the production point of life-energy (Ahamkara), while

the body consciousness is the receiver of the life energy. These
two centers are interdependent for their continuance in the
body. The center of production is permanent and never
exhausting. It is capable of producing life energy even for an
unlimited time, whether the seat of consciousness is to
consume it or not.

64
The seat of body consciousness, which receives life energy, is a
temporary thing in the body and leaves the body at the time of
death. The body consciousness is not universal but individual.
It is totally limited to the limitations of the body and goes with
it. In the absence of the body there cannot be a body
consciousness.

The life force which is in the production center and which has
sustained the body consciousness during its tenure in the body
cannot be destructible. There cannot be two indestructible
things in the body. if the soul has to be continuous in a series of
bodies (and eternal) there has to be a medium pervading the
continuum, which helps the body to transmigrate from one
body to another. This medium should also be a vehicle taking
the consciousness to another body. This medium should not
only be a vehicle but also a sustainer! In every new body in
which the body consciousness enters, in its series of births, the
medium should sustain the body consciousness, of course,
obviously with the requirement that nothing of its previous
existence is known to the body consciousness. At the same
time the various experiences which the consciousness
undergoes in the newly acquired body cannot be otherwise
explained, except by theorizing on the continuity of an earlier
existence. In other words, the consciousness in the body was
lost, is anxious to find another body to continue its story and is
in search of a body to suit its requirement. In this trans-
migration, the Ego which sustained the consciousness in the
earlier lives acts as a vehicle and medium to carry it into the
next body and also is the causative principle of the body
consciousness in the next.

65
Thus we have two points in the body:

The seat of and production of life-energy, that is also the seat of

Ego. It is permanent and Universal

Seat of consumption of life energy, which is also the seat of

body consciousness

Life Energy flows from the former into the latter and the latter
is temporary. The temporary thing continues to existence with
the help of a permanent thing, only for a while, not forever, till
the temporary thing attains permanency, which is its right. That
is, the temporary thing identifies itself, with the sustain force.
But, the impermanent thing becoming permanent is also not a
correct definition. It’s becoming a permanent means it merges
with the permanent thing ceasing at the same time to be a
different entity. It means that we are existing in a series of
fragmented existences. Although it is only one thing that is
continuing through the series, each time becoming
impermanent, but its continuity apparently becoming
permanent, not knowing its origin.

The center of Life Energy or Ego is responsible for the creation

of the seat of consciousness. The Ego has chosen to occupy the
matter and dwell in it. Matter being definitely fragmentary, the
Ego entering the matter has also necessarily to be fragmented
in its existence, while not losing itself unified singularly. It is
apparently behaving as different things reflecting in thousand
pots of water. As soon as one pot of water is destroyed, one
shadow has disappeared. It has not made the sun a bit smaller!
It has not affected the Sun at all! The completeness and the

66
permanence of the Sun is there Poornamidham,
Poornamadam…).

Thus the Universal Ego is only reflecting itself, but not creating
any second thing. It is reflecting itself in various bodies and the
reflection is endowed with intelligence for the simple reason of
enjoying the matter into which it has descended. In other
worlds, the reflection enjoys, the original does not! When you
see yourself in a mirror, which has an error the image suffers
but you do not. The reflection is not independent of the
original, yet it suffers, while the original does not. Even the
unreal thing looks like the real. Thus there is a duality (the real
and unreal)…

Both the real and unreal have one common property, which
enables us to call the second as the reflection of the first. This
common property is called Consciousness!

The original is conscious of itself and this can be called as Pure

Consciousness. The reflection of the Original or the unreal thing
is conscious of the matter it occupies (here it is the body) and
hence the body consciousness; and it is not conscious of itself.
consciousness is the fundamental thing and it has no shape.
The consciousness without a body is universal and within a body
is reflection of the universal, which is circumstantially
fragmented. The sufferer is the reflection, but the original is
not suffering at all! So the reflection (sufferer) has to identify
itself with the original, so that the suffering is gone.

The Universal Ego is all pervasive. It is conscious of itself and

also that it is all pervasive. But the ray darted from it is

67
conscious only of the matter into which it has entered. There is
a mechanism in the Universe, whereby the Universal Ego is
sending Life Energy in its reflection (body consciousness) and
making it enjoy the good and bad of the world. When the flow
of energy stops the body dies!

The Universal Consciousness is “Universal Dynamism (Viswa

Chaitanyam)”

In a particular body it is ‘Pranam’. Let the body consciousness

realize itself, its origin in itself

The goal is in your Self. Do not call it something, which is

outside your body as the goal

Your ambition is to reach the Ego within you and only then you
realize that the Ego in your body in which your consciousness
has merged, has gone beyond the body

The Ego in your body is nothing but Universal Consciousness

itself. So, having reached the goal, you will realize that the goal
is yourself

There are several stages of this Consciousness:

1) Universal Consciousness which is not embodied

2) Universal Consciousness that is all personified

3) Universal Consciousness which is embodied. Its multi

existences are represented by the thousand petals in the
Sahasrara Kamalam (Chakram) the stalk of which represents
the one source feeding them all

68
The Universal Consciousness embodied with respect to one
particular man is the production center of life energy, which is
also the seat of the Ego. This point of Ego is (therefore a
representation of universal consciousness in man)

69
Dealings of

Energy in Ego Consciousness II

(Dec.12, 1984)

Mahath and Ahamkara ( Not embodied and embodied Ego) are

the two things constantly being referred to in Vedanta by the
elders. We are dealing with the body consciousness, which is
the individual Sadhaka. He has to elevate himself.

The body consciousness means the man, who is thinking that he

is the body, identifying himself with the body although he
knows that it is not so, and that he is more than his body. so
the consciousness has to elevate itself and we are dealing with
that technique.

The question is as to where the consciousness has to elevate?

Where to it should be elevated? By whom it should be
elevated? What is the goal in elevating? The answer is that the
consciousness has a goal to reach. Having the point of goal
distinctly in mind and attempting to reach it, is itself elevation!
So consciousness elevates itself and what is that goal?

We say that we have heard about duality of existence and

Vedanta says about this.

There are two birds on the tree. One bird is eating the fruits of
the tree that is perching on. Another bird is silently watching.
So if there is a Bhokta (a consumer), there is a witness (Sakshi)
also. Equate the bird eating, with consciousness and is trying to
elevate itself. Now, let us go to the other bird. The 2nd bird is

70
also on the same tree. Equate the tree to body. The fruits of
the tree are Karmas (actions) performed by the body and what
the body receives from the external world in the shape of
happiness and sorrow.

Suppose that you are lying on a cot in winter and forgot to get
your blanket. You are shivering. The body has the sensation of
cold. The body is in touch with the wintery cold but you will not
say that the body has suffered. You will say that you suffered.
The sufferer has used his sense of ouch to experience the cold
and he is complaining that it is unpleasant because what was
pleasant for him was much warmer than this. That means he
has always value functions. He says that one is comfortable and
another is not. Any change from present state of his body
consciousness, make him unpleasant. He is happier in an air
conditioned room.

The experience of cold by the sense of touch of the body is a

fruit of the body but not of the cold! For that matter fruit is
grown on the tree with the help of Nature! So is cold. Just as
by contact with the Nature, the tree yields fruit, in winter the
body has yielded the fruit of cold sensation.

The enjoyer of the fruit is that consciousness of that whoever is

conscious of the body. That body consciousness is the
experiencer! But the complainant, who has complained of the
cold in the night and who says that he has forgotten, forgets the
Self, cannot be the consciousness. It is not! Consciousness is
only the sufferer of the resultant circumstances that is resultant
of his having forgotten to get the blanket etc. That means that
there is someone who is performing the Karma and there is

71
someone who is suffering its effects. The one, who is
complaining, if not a separate entity in the body, is at best the
other half of the same entity, who is suffering.

Without going to hair splitting differences, we can completely

arrive at the conclusion that the part that is doing the Karma
and eating the fruit is itself not the Karta (doer) all by itself. it is
the Karta with the help of some other force that we call in this
discussion as Ego. The place of that Ego is inside the human
body. It is resulting from the same fruit that is center of
consciousness are not, is the question. For the purpose of
Sadhana at least, we have to accept that the seat of this Ego is
different from the center of consciousness. Seat of
consciousness should be defined and should be located by
another function of it.

The seat of Ego has been the production of a flow of Life Energy,
that sustains the body that keeps the man alive, while the
produced energy is utilized for the maintenance of the body in
its by other center of seat consciousness. Thus it is clear that
the seat of consciousness sustaining that sustains by an
automatic and natural desire to sustain itself, but it is not able
to produce the Life Energy by itself and is dependent upon
another source for its sustenance. Obviously one is the giver
and the other is the receiver of Life energy.

So this consciousness is suffer and also the receiver of life

energy. The center of Life energy that is separate from the
consciousness, which is distributing to all parts of the body and
maintaining the various functions of the body, the various parts
of the body, in functional health. The center of production and

72
the seat of consciousness are independent, for their sustained
continuance in body. of these two, the center of production is
the permanent one, never exhausting. It is capable of
producing life energy to an unlimited time, whether the seat of
consciousness is able to consume life energy or not. In other
words, there is one permanent thing in the body and another
temporary thing in the same body. The temporary thing is
leaving the body at the time of death while its sustainer, its
parent that nurtured it, is joining the universal truth, wherever
it is.

The universal truth has to be defined. It is clear that the body

consciousness of the individual is not universal. It is totally
limited to the limitations of the body and goes with it. In the
absence of the body, there cannot be body consciousness and
the story is all over at the time of death, when the body is
burnt!

The life force that has sustained the body consciousness during
its tenure in the body cannot be a destructible thing, obviously
because there cannot be two destructible things in a body. This
is so because there is a theory about continuity of the soul in a
series of bodies. If the theory has to be good – it has to hold
good – There must be a medium pervading the time continuum
between one body and another body, which helps the body
consciousness to enter a body. It should not be just as vehicle
but also should be a sustainer. As it has sustained the
consciousness in one body earlier, it is going to sustain this
consciousness in yet another body, of course, obviously that the
requirement that it knows nothing of its previous existence. At
the same time the various experiences that the consciousness

73
undergoes in the body, newly acquired, cannot be otherwise
explained, except by theorizing on the continuity of an earlier
existence and in the same direction they are proceeding to
another body. The story is completing only chapter after
chapter re-acting its head, climax and the finish.

The two elements in the human body, one the ‘Giver’ and the
other the ‘Receiver’, of the sustenance which is a temporary
thing continuing itself with the help of the former which is a
permanent thing, only for a while, not even till the temporary
thing attains permanency which is its right, by not maintain its
sustainer, but in effect identifying itself with the sustaining
force.

The impermanent one becoming permanent is also not correct

definition. It’s becoming permanent means its merger with a
permanent thing, ceasing to be at the same time a different
entity! That means we are existing in a series of fragmental
existences. Although it is only one thing that is continuing
through the series, each time becoming impermanent, not
knowing its origin. Is the sustainer of this the characteristic
principle of the impermanent thing? This is a different
question.

Having called the center of release of Life energy as Ego the

question is whether this Ego is responsible for the creation of
the seat of consciousness. The answer is a definitive YES,
because the Ego has chosen to occupy matter and dwell in
matter.

74
Matter definitely being fragmentary; it has by necessity to be
fragmented in existence, while not losing its unified singularity.
A singular unity pervades all because fragments are different. It
is apparently behaving as different things reflecting life like one
Sun reflecting in a thousand pots of water. As soon as the pot
of water is destroyed one shadow has disappeared. It has not
made the Sun a bit smaller. It has not affected the Sun at all.
The completeness and the permanency of the Sun are there.
Thus the Universal Ego is reflecting only Itself but not creating a
2nd thing. It is reflecting itself in various bodies and the
reflection is endowed with intelligence, for the single reason of
enjoying the matter into which it has descended. In other
words, the reflection enjoys, the original does not…

For example when we see in a mirror ourselves, and if there is

an error in the mirror the image suffers and you do not. The
reflection is not independent of the original yet it suffers while
the original does not. There is a duality in which one is real and
the other unreal. Even the unreal thing looks like real. You may
put a question. If the body has consciousness, does the Ego also
have consciousness of something? Yes! Ego is conscious of
itself while the reflection is conscious of the matter in which it is
reflecting. So there is a common property for both, which
enables us to call the 2nd as the reflection of the Original.

What is the fundamental quality that enables us to call the body

consciousness as the reflection of the causative principle of
Universal Ego?

75
The Consciousness itself is Ego
What is it conscious of? Itself
Where is it? All over

That one let us call ‘Pure Consciousness’ which is conscious of

itself, whenever it reflects in fragmented particles of matter.
Every fragment is enabled that it is a separate entity.
Consciousness repeats itself. This is one way of understanding!

Consciousness is the fundamental thing and it has no shape. It is

what that is recognized as existing. So, consciousness without a
body is Universal and within a body is a reflection of the
Universal Consciousness, which is circumstantially (not
originally) fragmented. The sufferer is the reflection, but the
original is not suffering at all. So the sufferer (reflection) has to
identify himself with the original so that the suffering is gone!

The Ego is very much in the human body. We are locating that
behind the two eyes where there is a triangle; parallel rays of
light (vision) converge to the apex of this triangle that is the seat
of EGO. So there is a sufferer and an observer simultaneously
existing. The observer says, “I slept well. I did not sleep well I
enjoyed the meal. The food was not good, I was suffering with
fever,” and so on. All the while it is the body that is fed, clothed
and treated for its disease, but not the “I”. The Karma finds a
suitable body (matter) in which it continues its story like water
finding its own level. The consciousness enjoyed something in
some body, which was lost. So it is anxious to find another body
to continue its story. It is in search of another body or matter to
suit its requirements. The universal Ego has darted rays into a

76
pan of matter. Having entered, it is conscious about itself, but
the ray darted from it is conscious of the material, which it has
entered.

There is a mechanism in the universe whereby the Universal Ego

is sending Life Energy into its reflection (as body consciousness)
and making it enjoy the good and bad of the world. When the
flow of energy stops, the body dies. The Universal
Consciousness is Universal Dynamism. In a particular body it is
Pranam. Let the body consciousness realize itself, its origin, in
itself. the goal is in yourself. Do not call something outside
your body as universal consciousness and that it is your goal and
that you want to join it! Your ambition is to reach the Ego in
your body in which your consciousness has merged and has
gone beyond the body. The ego in your body is nothing else
other than the Universal Consciousness itself!

Sahasrara Kamalam (thousand petals) is universally pervading

energy. The thousand petals are indicative of millions of
existences of one-self. Various forms of life are fed by one
source, which is represented in the Sahasrara Kamalam. Here
there is no duality, which is experienced in Agna Chakaram.
When one enters here, there is only unity! But that unity is not
uniform. The universal Consciousness is becoming many. Man
in a man, bid in a bird, deity in a Deity. In a woman, it is a
woman, in a man, it is a man. So, it is dissimilar. So, it is the
deity in a god or the creator. It is so great that a small fragment
of a universal phenomenon is shrouded in such a mystery that it
fails to recognize itself with the rest of the world. Each
fragment considers itself as an entity by itself. This Maya, in
another parlance, is Vibhuti of God. He has shrouded every

77
fragment in such a mystery that each fragment fails to see the
totality!

Is there an effort in human beings? Yes. What then is the

difference? The whole thing is being analyzed. It is nothing but
the peculiar construction of the human body that enables this
and that does not enable the rest of the living to investigate.
That is why the human body is said to have six centers that
represent the various stages of life and ego in the universe – six
worlds. only a human being can investigate and elevate. In
other bodies also there can be Sadhana, which is confined to
themselves, but there is no elevation. They seek the self in
himself or herself, while we try to seek by elevating ourselves.
They realize themselves by not being conscious of outer world!
They become totally conscious of themselves, alone!

We should not be conscious of our present self in this present

status. We must transcend this and reach a higher level that he
has to elevate himself to the level of the universal Ego, which is
within him. Gods are elevated, we are elevating and both need
realization!

78
“Expansion of the Consciousness”

Transcending the Body Consciousness I

The important fact in yogic techniques is that you should start

being a witness to your body while you are living in it which is
the first stage.

Don’t be it but try to look at the body as a separate individuality

or as an animal, a mechanism or a contraption. Yu start looking
at it, you will realize that you not the body. I am looking at it
but I am not that which has to be practiced sitting silently
somewhere in a garden alone. Go on meditating and meditate
on this conscious thought, this deliberate thought. This is not a
natural thought but deliberate position that the soul, the ego
has taken.

The ego that is attached to this body should not be attached to

the body. The soul is the real tether to which it is tied. So, look
at the body as a separate entity like, “my car, my house, and my
shirt”.

Krishna says that just like a torn or a worn out garment is cast
aside and a new garment is donned, the soul takes another
body, leaving side the first body.

Although he casually mentioned it as a dictum of philosophy, it

is a Yogic Secret! You are leaving a body and obtaining another
body but there is no permanent body for you but you own it,
though it is not you. These thoughts must be constantly
meditated upon. Without much analysis and discussion, just
the seed thought must be continuously held in mind. Over a

79
long time of practice, one day, even in wakeful state, it suddenly
happens that you will come out of your body and look at it lying
on the ground. This is a common experience which all the Yogis
had which is called Yoga Siddhi and anyone can experience this.
When he is able to look at his body from outside, it means he
has cut off his body consciousness forever. Then he walks the
Yogic Path further to ultimately realize that he is not the body.

Then arises the question, ‘In that case who am I? This is the first
confirmation of non-body Reality. No purpose is served by
listening to some scholar that you are not the body and you go
on repeating it. Experience matter!

This experience could happen to you anywhere, even while

walking in the street. Someone got this when he was shopping.
He went to buy some sweets. He went to the shop, sat in a
chair and from inside the shop, through the glass doors, he was
looking his body standing outside. He went out inside! That
experience happened to him. That minute, you will not suffer
from anything that is happening to your body. A cut, an injury,
heat or cold, nothing will make him suffer! The body does not
lose its senses or sensitivity and he actually witnesses the body
suffering these but he does not undergo the same. He looks at
it but does not will the pain. The body suffers and it must; that
is the rule of the health. If it does not, you require treatment
immediately.

So the body suffers, the man does not since he has

disconnected himself with it, he has come become a witness to
it. This is possible by constantly and logically telling oneself the
truth like Sankaracharya: I am Pratyagatma, I am Shiva, I am not

80
the body, and I am not even the mind that is, looking at the
body’.

Since there is truth in this statement and thinking, it is realized.

Truth alone can be realized, untruth cannot be realized. This is
where exactly the power of Guru comes into the picture. Guru
is Truth. That is why meditating on him gives you that
experience. By just meditating another human being, such an
experience does not happen.

The proof of the Truth of Guru is this: in about 16 to 18 months,

total concentration on god’s voice and form should remove
your body consciousness without your knowledge, without your
notice. Then only the Guru is true or else he is just another
mortal. You are buying gold only after testing. Here you are
surrendering yourself to the Guru. Can you afford it? To get
ultimately cheated, disappointed and find only a little dust? No.

What is the Truth about a Guru? His body is also true because
he has reached the Truth inside his body. To all others, their
bodies are not true. They are going to vanish into thin air when
burnt. It is destroyed physically but the astral form is lively! It is
alive! What communicates to you is that astral form. In other
words, he is not body consciousness. The body follows him
wherever he goes. That is the secret about the body of the
Guru which is the truth which is why meditating on His form
must lead you Realization!

Knowledge of Truth is power. Knowledge of truth and faith go

together. You know for certain that is truth. You are totally
convinced and have developed a faith. Faith and knowledge of

81
truth, accompanied by truth lead to realization certainly. So,
start living in a plane of dynamism.

In meditation, you are dynamic, alive and kicking, very lively. In

body consciousness, you tire out easily. But, once you follow
the technique and realize that you are not the body, your body
will do anything that you order it to do.

If a yogi asks his body to eat 25kgs of sweets, it eats and digests
it. The body is now charged with super human energy life and
energy. It can also destroy itself at will. Yes, the Yogi can burn
his body by just looking at it, by driving fire into it with the
power of his thought. The body disappears into five elements.
Again, looking at the five elements, he can recreate his body
which is next higher achievement that Sukracharya
demonstrated. These techniques were available in Gorakhnath
ashram even recently. So, you can give your body to the
elements and take it back from them also.

The first step is to come out of your body and get over your
body Consciousness. We are regularly experiencing suspended
body consciousness in our sleep. When the mind is awakes, the
body consciousness awakes but the mind is really asleep in
sleep. When one percent of the mind suddenly comes alive, we
get a dream. The dream that is watched by the mind only is
recorded. A dream is not possible, if the mind does not come
alive. In sleep, intellect and Chittam do not come alive but the
mind suddenly comes alive when we have a dream. From this
point of view, what is the difference between sleep and
Samadhi? In Samadhi, the mind cannot come alive at all and
hence there is no scope for a dream there. In Samadhi, there

82
cannot be any thought of anything pertaining to the world.
why, there is no thought even Shiva or Vishnu in Samadhi.
There simply cannot be any thought in Samadhi!

So, most of us can realize the form of either God or Guru. Guru
is inexhaustible power. No one can exhaust of his Tapas. Even
a million people can draw out of it but still, it would remain the
same because it is Universal Consciousness. This kind of
perfection is reached by human beings. The rishis I spoke of
were mortals like you and me when they started. It is by Tapas
that they went up which is the technique of achieving anything.
Nothing is impossible for it!

So, after getting over body consciousness and raising the

question, “Who am I.” You realize that you have come through
several bodies in different births and that all of them have been
destroyed, have vanished. You know that your present body as
also going to be destroyed. You also realize that you are the
self, the master of all these bodies and the five elements and
that you can recover even the bodies of the past.

So, we started with body consciousness state saw that anything

can be achieved by meditating on the Self only. Ignoring the
body is one way. Another way is keep telling yourself that you
are not the body. this being the Truth, meditation on the Truth
enables you to destroy untruth. This means destruction of
body consciousness. It leaves you alone. This is suddenly won
by you one day!

Once it happens there is no going back. You will not identify

with your body again. Then, your real journey begins and you

83
move very fast. You will start driving the body like the driver
operating the car, sitting inside. Body is the chariot made by
Brahma with the five elements. The rider on the chariot is soul
inside. He is both the soul and body maker. This is how the
Rudram praises Shiva! We do not have to search for special
techniques anywhere. They are already available taught by one
and all in this country.

Start listening to OM inside you, in the loudest pitch, in your

voice. To start with you have to imagine this. After some time
the sound will not be in your control. Then, OM will start
showing its real volume. You will be afraid that the building in
which you are sitting is going to break into pieces because of
that volume. That level of loud voice is heard. After that
Silence takes over! It is at that point that you will come out of
your body and have a look at it. This is one of the thousand
ways.

Now, think of Mt. Kailas. place yourself consciously, though the

body may be sitting here. You are not in your body. You are at
the feet of Kailas. Practice this every morning and evening for a
few minutes. Then, start this technique of hearing OM with a
loud report there and then, in a few days, you will find that the
OM is emanating from Kailas. In this experience of hearing OM
with your present bodily voice, you automatically lose your
body consciousness totally and merge with Kailas. Then, you
are no more the mortal man you were, after you regain your
Consciousness. All tendencies, any disease of the future will
also be destroyed in the process. As the clock starts to turn
backward, old age is conquered. No kind of appetite of flesh

84
can exist in you anymore. You will stop suffering from hunger,
thirst or exhaustion. Nothing will touch you anymore!

In the normal course, what the Guru does without teaching you
any “Technique, he tries to give you that progress without your
effort. Once you start this technique, it will not be each for you
to go through the various activities of the material world”. You
will uncomfortable to talk to anybody about worldly things. You
will dismiss any subject as stupid. Even when an old friend
comes, you would like to be left alone. If you have to be
deliberately normal, it is touch. Yes, it is difficult to be
something you are not.

Solitude is the ability not to hear anything, any noise, not to

notice anybody even when you are in a crowd of thousand
people. Initially you are placing yourself aloof from all the
worldly things but the still the mind is in the world. so, you are
not enjoying solitude at that time. From this state to that state,
anyone can reach by listening to OM from within, in your voice
at the loudest possible volume that you can imagine. The sense
of hearing has certain limits. My voice may be audible, say, up
to that temple and it may not be so one mile away. It is due to
such limitations that we are all living comfortably. Suppose you
are able to hear noises that are going on five miles away, how
would it be? So, for the security of the body, the senses have
their limits. However, in this listening to OM, one accident
occurs. The sense of hearing loses its limitations and goes all
out to record any noise from anywhere. The barrier is broken.
That is the deep risk in this. But how long can it last? May be
24 hours. People going through such an experience would feel
like getting hospitalized and would require sedation. Very soon,

85
he would come out of it and live well. Likewise, there have
been several techniques so that one of them may suit you. Each
person finds comfort in one of these techniques.

Entering into sleep means on the threshold of sleep. He goes

to a different direction and looks like a sleepy man only. Sleep
means that there can be a dream in it. It also means that it can
be disturbed by a loud report or voice. Going into Samadhi
through sleep is also possible. You can go into sleep, that is, put
your body to sleep, come back to the ‘Y” junction and go into
the other direction of Samadhi. There is no lesser grade of
achievement in this.

The absolute and ultimate secret in this creation is that

everyone can become the greatest Yogis. You do not have to
sacrifice anything like food or sleep or keep standing
throughout the night. You do not need such gimmicks in the
normal stage. Some Satvic food and freedom from bad
thoughts, hatred, too much of involvement or dislike,
condemnation of somebody and the weak points of human
being like jealousy or self-pity – do not allow them to come near
you. After all said and done, there is no time to be lost in having
somebody, in running after something, in entering into a
controversy with someone, abusing somebody or getting
abused. It is totally a waste of time. You can ignore anything
damn thing in the world, even a loss of ten million rupees, do
not bother about it. There are far greater things to be attended
to. Then you can order millions to follow you like dogs. A good
man does not believe in doing or returning or wishing evil to
others. If someone curses you, you do not have to curse him
back as a rule. You can ignore him!

86
Have these basic human qualities, mercy, kindness, a little
charity, being liberal to others. Give what you have if someone
asks for it. Serious meditation along with these qualities is
enough.

A man who has never been a good human being, if he tries to

find a ladder to the heaven it does not stand. How can there be
a super human being without being human?

Our attachment anything should be graceful conduct of man

and it should not trap us down. You can have your pussy cat
but love it as much as you love your sons. You do not have to
anything for your sons. Just simple love!

The bay survives in the womb only because of love of the

mother. Love is a greater force and love is life. Humans are
born out the womb of their mothers on account of their
mothers love only and it is not biological matter. It is an
esoteric, philosophical matter. “Real life is Love”. That does not
mean that you have to wash the feet of a wretched man, a
beggar, to show your love. You do not have to ignore the bad.
Love all, but ignore the harm done to you and still return love
when they come to ask for it.

With these ordinary qualities, with the absence of negative

qualities, you are a great success in Yoga. Yoga therefore does
not depend on philosophical understanding. An average man
can become a Yogi. What is required? Limited food, limited
sleep and ability wake-up at the slightest disturbance. Sleep is
in the form of waves to us. Very deep sleep followed by very
light sleep and so on. The yogi is very deep sleep for about 24

87
minutes in the entire night. The rest of the sleep is a straight
line. In a way, the body consciousness is suspended but he is
conscious of the Self.

That is the yogic state. When the body consciousness does not
come in the way, the self-consciousness is reached. One
obstacle is removed in sleep. You can meditate on Kailas. Shift
your consciousness there. Only for that reason, I want to see
Kailas face to face. Ramana praises Arunachala saying that the
body consciousness, or egos of those who meditate on it are
rooted out. That is charged with some primordial secrets.
Kailas is another such point in space. A place where even
Brahma has no body. It is directly accessed to that point. The
moment consciousness enters to that point that point is liked
up to soul and gets redeemed forever.

We all speak of Jnana and Jnana is necessary. Many

philosophical truths about this world should be known, no
doubt about this. That knowledge accompanied by what your
guru tells that makes your knowledge complete. That
knowledge, which preserves the secrets of life, becomes a store
house of Jnana.

The guru must not speak what he has learned from others, he
must only speak while he has experienced, because he is
answerable to Truth. This Dharma binds even Gods. So,
meditation on the Truth is the redeemer.

The Guru watches the Consciousness of the disciple. He looks

for any disturbance on the surface of his consciousness. While
he knows the cause of such disturbance, he does not look into

88
the contents of that cause. Therefore, while the guru is always
present, the disciple’s privacy is also ensured. The disciple’s
consciousness must stand straight like a steady flame, inside a
pot without a flicker. An intense desire is the only eligibility for
reaching any Yogic heights! Ask and you shall have it!

89
Transcending the Body Consciousness II

Mind is use to the body not the soul. If you want to forget the
body, the inner force is capable of making you to do so. It is the
‘Will Power’ (Sankalpa) and not even a prayer.

It enables you to forget the body and enter the vast Universe
that lies within you, when this is realized the ego is dropped.
Ego is a truth that lies close to the inner self. So, it desires this
realization in the ego. In the presence of the giver, the desire is
granted desiring and granting is not different. It is similar to the
light being switched on and the darkness disappearing. There is
no time lapse in between. Having a Sankalpa in the presence of
the giver is asking sitting under a wish fulfilling tree and desiring
something. It has the power of giving you desires an immediate
shape.

Your desire to stop body consciousness and enter the Universe

within you certainly cannot happen with the memory of your
body. So this precondition itself gives you satisfaction. To
assume that there is great distance between you and God,
realization and ignorance, ignorance and wisdom, bondage and
liberation is a false perception. This is not the Truth and only an
assumption of an ignorant mind that has pictured it to be so.

The process is Tapas, short and sweet which shows the results
for sure. The man has first to assume that in close to him and in
fact God is closer than your own body. Do not merely assume
this but be aware of this Truth. The awareness of this great
Truth makes you realize it. There is no long path or process or
Karma or time or space involved. Nothing divides you from

90
that. Any concept distances you from the self. That is why it is
ineffective. Any thought that distances you from the truth by
introducing a world of creation between you and the God, will
make you go around the world. it will make you loiter about.
Your suffering from a journey is your own thought. There is no
such journey really.

Every sentence of Truth uttered in Vedanta is accompanied by a

very lengthy logical dispensation to make you realize the Truth
that has been said in that sentence. The futile effort was
originally aimed at convincing you through logic that the original
sentence is true. If you surrender yourself with full
consciousness that this is Truth, the Truth reveals itself to you
without the aid of this logic and pages of Vedanta has grown
into such a bulk because of this process of trying to establish a
truth after entering the truth. Utterance of truth should not
demand an establishment of it, through logic. Logic is faulty
because it comes from the human mind and human experience
of falsehood. On the contrary realization is instantaneous if the
Sankalpa is made powerful assumption of truth leads to
realization.

I salute with respect to all the intellectuals of Vedanta Shastra

but they are not meant for one who considers himself totally
residing at the feet of the lord. If you are on the lap of the
Supreme Mother, your ignorance vanishes like darkness from
the room the instant Jnana is given to you. It happens in a
moment. The absence of the mind is the secret success! Mind
takes time to die. The attitude survives in the mind.
Assumption removes it over a time. That time is the span sent
in annihilating your ignorance and realizing your existence as a

91
permanent entity at the feet of the Lord. You are with him, on
His lap, with His knowledge. There is no possibility of taking
your ignorance there.

The assumption that the giver is there and you are on His lap is
not a false assumption. The rest is false. This is realizable. The
problem is the memory of the body’s existence that is troubling
you. So this sentence is doubted because the body comes into
the mind. Mind is not in the body – Body is in the mind! Mind
carries the body inside it. This is an absolute truth. Tell yourself
that mind contains your body. It can vanish because the mind
can forget this also. That which remembers can also forget!

Even in praying to the form of God, your body is replaced in the

mind by some other form and name. that is, your body is
removed and something else is installed. This is the process of
replacement or substitution. Nothing but the body
consciousness is responsible for your feeling of the distance.
The mind is occupied by the body and you are in this world only.
For a moment, it disappears from the mind. It exists from the
mind, it disappears from the mind. It exists from the mind and
it disappears from the consciousness also. Consciousness
realizes the nearness of truth. I will ask you a simple question.
You know how to eat do you know how to digest? Certain
process in this world is totally beyond comprehension. So too is
realization. The process of Realization is incomprehensible – It
just happens!

The mind contains the body all the time as a natural state of
existence. Even Consciousness accompanies the mind without
our own knowledge, even while the mind contains the body.

92
so, it is an involuntary existence, the body in consciousness is
involuntary. Like you’re breathing in your sleep. Why, even
now you are breathing but not deliberately. Similarly, the
involuntary existence of body’s presence in consciousness is
body consciousness. Not that all the time you are thinking of
the body. Mind does not think so. Mind is the tip of the iceberg
called consciousness. The tip is engaged in looking at the world
and reaching to it. It must be removed from the deeper levels.
So, in this way, when I say mind contains the body mind that is
the main body of the consciousness is containing the body. but
when you say ‘Aham Brahmasmi’, you are uprooting the
existence of the body from consciousness. When you say I am
God, I am close to It, it is not the thought of the mind although
it starts there. It reaches consciousness. That path is already
set by God and not by you. So, when the thoughts get into the
consciousness, it is there that the roots of the body’s existence
are cut. That is a process in which God is dynamic and man
helpless. You are not doing it. The secret power God functions.

Tapas is primarily the dismissal of knowledge which is not

allowed to remain anywhere around.

The sense of insecurity in a man is an important point. All of us

are entering and accommodating within ourselves, a constant
sense of insecurity. This is because ‘we have not told ourselves
how secure we are. When we are secure, we are secure. We
are safe when we realize the presence of god within. So, if we
assume correctly, where is insecurity?

Doubting the existence of reality, establishing unreality as truth

in the deep logic of our mind, then trying to wriggle out of it are

93
the reasons responsible for the sense of insecurity. What
happens and what does not happen has a direct impact on your
physical body consciousness. It has no impact on real self. Your
association with destructible body and that awareness going
deep into consciousness also unconsciously, is the cause of the
sense of insecurity. What is yours in this world is not yourself, it
is not yours! If you can dismiss the existence as untruth, what
relates to your body becomes untrue. So, the sense of security
proceeds from the assumption that you are there as an entity,
that certain things belongs to you, that you belong to certain
things and that the relationship must be taken care of. Then
you go on praying to God to keep you secure in false
surroundings. It is this which leads you to restlessness. And,
you feel that sometimes that God is not listening to you. This is
the platform of materialistic world.

In the process of moksha however, your existence as an entity is

already replaced without your knowledge, it is uprooted and
thrown out, by assuming that there is no distance between you
and the God within you. You are within That that lies in your
heart center. The heart center is only a path indicator and it is a
common language used for introducing the truth to you. Once
you are introduced, taken, sucked in, you will find that you are
the whole world, the world in which you have lived is nothing
but a speck of dust somewhere inside it. Your sky is so vast that
creation is occupying a portion of that space within. This
realization of that big, all containing, all-pervading truth is not
your making but it is a gift to you given by the word of God. If
that making is yours, you can, at the moment, think of a
process? You can plan your action but not Gods.

94
Truth is at the beginning of the Vedas and it is established at the
end. Truth alone exists in between the beginning and end. The
beginning and end are at the same point. You need not at all
undertake the futile exercise of going around reaching the goal.
If truth is a process-less Reality, journeying is only delaying the
inevitable you can stay wherever you are and gently alter your
direction. There is neither suspense nor emptiness in such a
waiting. Over a time, such waiting is riot cognized when it is
fully realized that realization is a happening and that it happens
in a moment!

95
Universalization of Consciousness - Part I

In the name of religion or in the name of spirituality, many shut

themselves away from people and live in a small home.
Spirituality consists of coming out of small parts, small living,
and small shutters!

In fact, the bird is living in a small nest, the size of a coconut.

When it leaves, it goes up mile above the clouds. It has the view
of the ocean, mountain ranges, landscapes, townships and
villages where thousands of human beings are living. It has a
bird’s eye view. So also spirituality must necessarily consist of
getting out of small dwellings. Indweller can never be a
spiritualist. Spirituality consists of not indwelling but out-
dwelling; getting out of indwelling.

Here, the indwellers of houses, homes, families and established

conditions everything is made by ourselves to suit our
smallness. We are suitable to our smallness. Spirituality must
necessarily consist of, getting out to become not small, but the
biggest as big as the god Himself. That is the ultimate goal!
Man is small; God is all over. Man is not all over but has gifted
man with such a Consciousness, which can be as big as that!

Your body may be small and along with it your mind may be
small. We are constructing small homes, small rooms to live in,
but when we go out of that, our Consciousness can be as big as
the Lord, the God, the maker of the whole Universe.
Consciousness can grow into such a big proportion that even
stars are included in it. Stars are part of your person, if your
person, if your Consciousness is capable of growing. God has

96
not put any limitations on your Consciousness. On the other
hand we are feeling our Consciousness with the smallness,
which is embraced by the mind and the body. Consciousness is
confined to the mind and body, in a normal life. A Yogi takes
the Consciousness beyond the body and goes on expanding.
That is Spiritual Sadhana. That is Tapas and that is
Universalization.

If you become universal, you become deathless, you are

timeless, you are conscious of every limitation of yourself. All
limitations are shackled. So we have to have a small birds nest
to get into, eat and sleep. But it should be as small as the body
needs. You must come out of it as soon as possible, grow as big
as possible. This is Sadhana which means coming out of the
body!

You have a body and you have a mind. Along with the body
there is family; there is small unit and you call it your family,
your township, your street, your house. People are dying in
smallness! We will realize in some birth that the smallness is
encapsulated, jailed. It is a prison into which a man has
voluntarily walked and he is never found to be enjoying his
living. He is in the process of existence. Living means living
lively and existing lively! Lively existence is living. We have to
come out of this. Think big. That is why small hermitages were
constructed by Sages in the forest. All the time they were in
Universal consciousness which can be expanded to the
Universe.

In Samadhi, the Consciousness goes on expanding and also

when I am not disturbed, that’s when I am free to live in my

97
own self and in the prospect of not being disturbed in another
few hours to come. It is not a small slow process. It changes in
a split second. I am then somewhere in the sky. I see the earth,
like the size of a football, like the particles of dust and then next
experience is, I see millions of people born and disappearing
also. The time of 70-100 years, of each generation, becomes a
split second. One becomes space and time conscious at the
same time. Both are one. This is not different from space and
time and space are one. You have to experience this. Even in
Dhyana and even in meditation, you can consciously place
yourself somewhere close to the sun where the earth is seen as
dust particle and also all human life. We have, say 10,000 years
passing on earth, every century giving birth to some ten billion
human beings, all of them disappearing by the year, or the end
of the century, by fleeting, flashes of various seen. Film
projections show one frame only – on the screen for about
1/16” of a second. Every second 16 frames are changing. It is
something like that. When you look at earth like that from
above, one whole generation has come and gone. Like water, it
flows. That is somewhere beyond the moon, beyond the Sun
that is surrounded by the circumambulating moon. Seas of
population growth, you can suddenly experience. That
universalization of the Self is something that happens to you.
That is the break of bondage of rebirth, which is a peculiar
experience. This is given by God!

Guru takes care to bring you back to normalcy after the break of
bond of re-birth in the world. you are yet to live like a normal
human being, without creating even a suspicion in anybody’s
mind in your home or something of that. They should not have

98
to notice anything in you, but then your sorrows, your tears,
your expectations, your disappointments; all these things
disappear. You are in an excellent frame of mind; all the time
peaceful and happy. You feel that you are totally a free soul
and the whole universe is your home. It is not a small patch of
land or a small thing the whole universe is your home.
Immense happiness, the sense of freedom from all bonds is the
result. Fear of death, fear of rebirth, all that disappears. It is an
experience even projecting yourself consciously.

Imagine you are there. This is Sadhana secret. For example, in

the place where our Parama Guru did tapas at Jageswar, He
lives in Spirit. You shift your Consciousness by imagining you
are sitting there. Slowly, without effort, your Consciousness
goes beyond your body, and then you fly into the air.
Somewhere in space you will find a location from where the
earth is too small. There the earth is not important. The earth
is a speck of dust and in that Consciousness you leave him to
live, only if you want to come back, or you want to rule the
country or the land, in the interest of poor human beings, or
you want to do something else, or you want to communicate
with them not by compulsion. That freedom any human soul
can have. It is there for asking. God is the giver. There are no
takers! This is the secret.

Instead of asking for this or that or anything ask for the major
thing. You are the ruler and you are the controller of all that
you command. These things are possible for any asking for it.
The only thing is you have to have a guru to clear your doubts
and take care of your normalcy and bring you back to normal.
Sometimes a child slowly walks up the ladder, clutches himself

99
somewhere and is afraid he cannot come back. Someone has to
go and bring him.

Universalization of Consciousness - Part II

Ahamkara (EGO) of Eswara (God) is Universal Ahamkara. “I am

the Universe” is one Ahamkara only. But you and I think, “I am
not you and you not I.” When there is separation in Ahamkara
(EGO) that is ignorance. The total Ahamkara of the entire
Universe is known as Universal consciousness.

Ahamkara should be born out of Consciousness it is not

adequate to think that this is me. It is not a thought at all! Such
a thing must be experienced. The ego coming out of the
experience becomes Reality. We may get several of the egos
without experience. It is not so for Eswara. Experiencing the
entire Creation, He is with the feeling that all that is Him. “All
stars are Me. These five elements are Me. All Gods are Me. All
the worlds are me only! All the souls are born, live and die in
Me. Nothing can afford to exist apart from Me. All that is told
to Sankhya is Me only.” So He said only one thing “ I only exist”.
That is Universal Consciousness. When you think of God as
Universal Consciousness, you get into Universal Consciousness.
Then this body, the one having the little ego becomes unlimited
Ahanta (the one having the EGO). Ahamkara which is now
limited to the body becomes unlimited Ahamkara which is the
Ahamkara of God!

God identifies himself with the Ahamkara of others. He says, “I

am Indra, I am Varuna, I am Agni, I am the Star. They have their
respective Ahamkara but they do not have Ahamkara. I have

100
their Ahamkara in Me.” So, a small one is part of the whole.
The whole thing is also available in the material parts.
Otherwise the first sentence cannot be true.

How can we say I am Varuna unless the elements that one is in

ME. Eswara is available in Varuna? Only when the Tatwa of
Eswara is in Varuna, then only it becomes correct when he says,
“I am Varuna.” But Varuna is not thinking that he is Eswara. He
is expanding as one ego that is Varuna, Sun, Indra, Moon, Stars
and all the Gods. In that sense his quotation, “Aham
Vaiswanoro Bhootva Praninam Deha Maasritaha,” is valid. That
is, he says, “I am the hunger in you, when you eat the food
while you are hungry I am the one responsible for its digestion.
I am that fire in you that is digesting. Not only that I am also
assimilating, the essence of the food to your body.” So in this
sense God pervades everywhere. The individual does not
pervade beyond his body, beyond his conscious surroundings.
When I am conscious of my house, I think it is my house.
Something that happens to the house does not happen to me.
This kind of Ahamkara is low level.

Ahamkara leads to Mamatvam (individuality). When there is an

“I” there is “Mine”. This ownership or mine is unlimited.
Ahanta and Mamata (egoism and individuality) are responsible
for performance of daily activity (Karma).

So, in Sadhana a man should always think of universalizing

himself through the identification himself with God because
trying to become Universal himself short circuiting God, is a
difficult process although it is possible. That is what Raakshsas
attempted. In that sense when the demons were doing tapas,

101
Indra was afraid. It is not because of the boons which are going
to be given, but the extending Consciousness to Heaven also.
So in a way he is becoming Indra, Varuna or Surya. By Tapas his
Consciousness is expanding. In tapas, his Consciousness is
gradually expanding beyond his body and his Ashram, forest,
the country and beyond the earth. It is crossing everything. So
he is extending his Consciousness.

For example, take the case of Hanuman who is ‘Bhavishya

Brahma’ (the creator to be in future). He is not just waiting
irresponsibly, doing nothing, to take over as Brahma. He is
becoming Brahma every minute. The moment he completes
the process of becoming Brahma, he becomes Brahma. He
takes over that. He is growing every minute, is becoming
Brahma. How is he growing? He is getting into his fold the five
elements. He is understanding and accommodating in himself
the ego, Consciousness, the intellect and all such things that are
required for the souls. He is growing in him the power to give
them all those things. The desire to create and the power to
create also are also growing in him every minute so that one
day he is going becomes brahma.

In other words, the future Brahma is a child now. His growing is

called Tapas. That tapas of hanuman is enabling him to become
Brahma. Similarly, any ego can grow independent of God and
also to become something. Brahma is not god and is only part
of God! Brahma is not totally God. He is self-conscious that
Rudra is not total God. He is Rudra conscious only. But, the
knowledge of Rudra Conscious is inside their heart! They know
that they are part of Brahman. All the Trinity put together is
God. These three Gods are as much Gods as anybody else. So

102
far as the creation, sustenance and dissolution are concerned,
these three put together perform all the things. Of course
Puranas say Vishnu is first god among these three, from whose
belly the Brahma was born. Then from the face of Brahma,
Rudra was born. All that is called Creation as the result of
Creation of Brahma formed out of the Consciousness of Vishnu.
All that is created by Brahma is full of Vishnu and cannot be
Vishnu. There is no creation without brahma. There is no
Brahma without Vishnu’s creation. One is creating another.

Consciousness can be of two things. One is about …….all that.

The other is conscious of Self. Self is not of things. It is
established by ‘Neti, Neti’ (not this) sentences. That is, it is not
the hill, the tree not the home. It is not anything, but it is
everything. If you point out to one thing and ask whether it is
Self or Brahman, the answer is NO. If you ask a Vedic scholar
whether Atman is a wall, the answer is NO. because if it is told
that Self is the wall, you will call the wall, as the Atman.

Our awareness of something is also Atman. There is nothing

that is not Atman ‘Exclusively’ it is none of these things.
Inclusively it is everything, because it is not possible for
anything to exist without being Atman. It is not possible for
anything to exist without being Atman. That is why there exists
only one thing. So it is said “Ekam Sath Viprah Bahudha
Vadanthi.” Bahudha is also told as Brahma Loka, Heaven etc.
some call Brahma Loka as Brahman and some call Vishnu Loka
as Brahman, whereas Brahman is everything!

Hence instead of thinking ourselves about Brahman, it is better

to chant “Aham Bramhasmi” (I am Brahman)as Japam in our

103
state. The meaning of this sentence is true but not
experienced! We can however keep on saying in our Sadhana.

In Sadhana it is correct to think that am not this body and that

should be your reminder constantly. One should state two
truths which are only. Verbally you should say, “Naham Deho
Indriyani (I am not the body and the senses), and Aham
Brahmasmi (I am Brahman).” It can be understood that you are
Brahman only by realizing that you are not the body. It is like
two wings of a bird. The word is absolutely inspiring when “I am
Brahman” that is not known? How can one say that which he
does not know? But, in saying I am not the body and dwell in
that thought of I am Brahman. That is by putting the two
together the Truth is established! That which are the two wings
of a bird are not the bird you are telling orally, vocally. Both are
becoming at one time. That is why it is becoming Truth.
Chanting ‘Aham Brahmasmi’ and being aware in Chitta
(consciously that you are not the body, if these two combine it
becomes Sadhana. Actually it is the secret of Science of
Spirituality.

There are people who achieved the results in six months. It is

not difficult. You can take this as Guru Vakyam (word). In the
sentence “Aham Brahma Asmi” there is great power in its sound
energy. It implies saying that I am rejecting the ignorance that
is troubling me here, in the way that is possible by one, and I am
uttering the Truth. Truth is power! Whenever you say the truth,
remember you are touching the power.

Most of the miracles where God had appeared in Divine form

and speaking to them are because of the power of their Chittam

104
(Consciousness). It is not as if, those Gods are living in some
times and some stages, in some corners, of the world now.
there is the Namam saying “Bhakta Chitta ke Ghana Thani
namah”. This is very clear. Consciousness can create God. The
devotee can create God and it is not otherwise. Chitta is “Chitta
vrithi”.

There is nothing that Chittam cannot create. The Chittam has

certain responsibility for creation of that God which is again
“Nashwara” (dissolvable). Chitta itself is not itself permanent
thing. It is a Vikara (contortion). It is a wave in the ocean of
Nature. In the universal Consciousness/Dynamism a particular
ego of the Chittam is a wave. That great Dynamism pervades
the entire Universe. As soon as that ego leaves the world the
Chitta subsides in the ocean of Universal Dynamism. For this
reason keeping us face to face is their respective God forms,
have not left those forms permanently. Each man has to create
his own God form for himself. That creation is only for
themselves. One may Ganapathi Upasana and visualizes
Ganapathi. When a seer departs from the living world that
Ganapathi does not remain. Again if another creates, only that
Ganapathi is available. The individual Consciousness is a part of
the great truth and is like a wave in the ocean. But that wave is
not the transcendental truth (Parama Satyam). It has occurred
as a transient.

The vision of Arjuna during the teaching of Gita is a different

thing. The Universal Vision given to him is different. Krishna
gave him the vision. This is why he could visualize. Otherwise
Arjuna cannot see. Arjuna came out of body Consciousness.

105
Chittam visualizes according to the manner in which it creates
the world. the vision of Chitta belongs to that Chittam only!

In what way this body is made of the five elements? Where

were they, before creation of this body? where do they go after
the body? to answer these questions it should be said that in
the great ocean of the five elements, this body has come out as
a wave. Afterwards it merges into that same ocean. A wave
that has come once, shall not come again. The wave had come
only once and gone forever. Same wave will never reappear
again.

It is so in that sense, but the contents of the wave are part of

the ocean. Therefore it is permanent one. So every droplet
contained in the wave will form the part of another wave every
time. In that sense the five elements is the ocean and the
bodies are the waves. Viswa Chetana is the ocean. The
individual Chittam (Consciousness) is the wave. Both are acting
simultaneously. That is why that kind of a Chittam and that
body are not to be repeated at any time again. So, what has not
existed some time ago shall never exist after sometime. That is
the law! There is nothing like existing for some time and not
existing for some other time. This is very clear from the verse

‘Naasatho Vidyathe Bhava, Nabhavo Vidyathe Sathana’

This feeling, the bhavana the concept of the existing for a while
is a myth! The existence, that what is known as universal truth
in you, both in your body again and soul. The body is not
untruth when it is referred to as part of the wave in the ocean
of five elements. There is some truth about it, but not the

106
wave. Elementally speaking and fundamentally speaking, it
contains the wave permanently in the ocean of Pancha Bhootas
(five elements). Similarly the Chitta, is the same again. Soul is
Viswatman (universal ego), but still is able to identify
Viswatman. The soul is seemingly individualistic.

So there are three elements, the Soul, the Body, and the
Consciousness. Consciousness is Universal. Take any element
of you it is part of the universe and this is Realization. There is
no reason to think that you are something separately by
yourself, any part of you. Either Consciousness, or in the body,
or in the soul there is nothing like a separate thing anywhere.

Everything is part of the creation. Body is part of the ocean of

five elements. There is Atman in you. It is part of your faith. It
is bound by the concept (Bhavana) that ‘I am separate’. It is
bound in the cage of Ego. Without the cage it becomes
Viswatman (Universal Ego). Consciousness is part of that which
is in the Universe fully. That is why the prayers are,

“Ya devi Sarva Bhooteshu Nidra Roopena Samisthiha”

“Yad Devi Sarva Bhuteshu Kshudharoopena Samisthiha”

and so on are surviving in Nature as forms of Devi. So the very

idea that you are a separate entity is wrong, since it is not true.
Even ignorance as a part is not there. Actually there is
something called Avidya? There is no entity called Avidya. It is
the absence of Vidya or Abhawam (the concept of lacking it) of
Vidya. For example, there is only light but there is nothing like
darkness. Where light is obstructed, it is called darkness. Light
is responsible for shadow. So, knowledge can understand

107
ignorance but ignorance cannot understand knowledge. I am
sure any of you without getting into the complexity of scriptures
or education and all that, can directly experience the truth. The
truth is within yourself. You are debarred by any rule.

Many people think that Karma is to be expended and then only

Moksha appears. Is Moksha a solid matter somewhere? If that
is true, Karma is never totally expendable. Karma is
continuously being created by man-ego. To be an Akarma
Kruth, one has to be a great Yogi, which is a difficult process
again.

A huge quantity, a hill, or a mountain of Karma is attached to

the soul with a knot. The Karma is flowing into the soul
constantly. He is the experiencer for that. Suppose the knot is
cut the mountain is detached. It rolls away. One is released like
that. Detachment from Karma is possible. Instead of trying to
destroy the Karma by the counter Karma, try to understand and
experience the karma quickly and fast. What we have to do is
undo the knot. That is possible by saying ‘Aham Brahmasmi’.
Karma is perennial source of experience. Karma can never be
totally completed by experience. Therefore the knot that is
attached to Karma is to be snapped off. The Guru’s anxiety is
something like that.

If I am very much attached to you, your Karma’s keep troubling

me. They trouble you. I become worried that your Karmas
should leave you, because your Karma becomes mine as long as
I am attached. You should say that this Karma is not mine. Soul
has no Karma. The one possessing the body has Karma.

108
Why keep on saying Dehi, Dehi ( I am the body). That is to be
discarded. Then it is for you and for me. Do not ask how the
discarding has to be done. You make an effort. After that for
name sake the Karmas are attached to the body. they start
disappearing, when you start thinking so, they are not yours.
They get evaporated when you say that Karma does not belong
to you.

It is not merely saying that I am unnecessarily involved in this. I

have not really done it or saying I have done it under special
circumstances. You should say, meaningfully and deliberately
that you have not done anything even in the past and that you
have not done any karma at any time. It vanishes! If you are
accepting old Karma denying the present Karma, or the
causative Karma of yours, that would lead to the present
suffering. I know that you have not done anything now but
suffering has been imposed on you as a result of Karma only
because the Karma’s existence has been accepted. Therefore
refuse saying, I have not done any Karma anywhere because I
am Atman. As Atman I am not the doer.

“Naham Deho Indriyani, Na Antharango, pratyagatma Sivoham”

That is “I am not the body, nor senses, nor the Ego also. I am
the Atman, I am Siva”. Then there will be no Karma. Actually
no Karma should be there. Not even attached. Because of
some Karma the body is acquired. Atman can remain as Atman
and occupy the whole creation. The attachment to the body
and the body consciousness are responsible for Karma. When
you look at yourself as Atman, miracles have happened!

109
When I was 12 or 13 years old, I stood in front of a mirror and
said, “I am not the body, I should not see my image in the
mirror, because it is not my body in the mirror. If there is truth
in this I should not see the image”. There was no image. Body
was there because the yes was open. The eyes of this body
were there. That was a wonderful miracle.

It means the Will was so powerful. That is possible. It is

because I challenged that if I see in the mirror I doubt that
reality. My Guru knows that if I look at the image in the mirror
of the body, I will start doubting whether I am the Atman or the
body. That was the sense of ignorance and the innocence of the
mind.

I can be achieved like this if there is a goal in life. We

concentrate on several goals like acquiring a PhD degree or
passing an examination or getting a promotion. How much
labor you put in for that? Suppose you are already a bank
officer and you have to sit for an examination, only on passing
which you get a promotion, how much of concentration would
be shown to achieve that promotion which comparatively
useless? That promotion may not last more than 10 years.
Again, you will stand for another test in 10 years. Then you will
be back at home after retirement. Really if there is so much of
power in the concentration for a man in material things, why
not have a desire for this? If there is a strong desire, the image
in the mirror will not be seen. I did not see the image in the
mirror, I then touched my body then I said my body is body. I
am not touching the body. If it is touching itself and saying that
is there. Immediately it vanished again. Body is there, but
there is no image in the mirror. The whole thing happened in

110
five to six seconds. I am telling you this firsthand experience of
this miracle. Atman is billion times true than the body. The
difference between zero and one is Infinity, because zero is
bottom most and Infinity is Poornam!

Mind is the outermost periphery of Consciousness and is in

contact with the world. in between there is intellect (Buddhi).
Its role is to set a direction for the mental activity. Something
appears good. The Intellect with its knowledge may say it is
dangerous. To give a proper feed to a hungry Intellect
Scriptures are studied. Intellect calls your innermost
convictions as madness. The innermost conviction should
ignore Intellect (Buddhi) by not giving importance to it. You
might oblige by educating it by reading Scriptures. So
innermost conviction is stronger than Intellect and the same
intellect has no experience of anything. Someone who has a
book never to have an experience hopes to have an experience
and is talking about it. Stop the mouth of Intellect (Buddhi) and
you are not the intellect – you are the Self! If not the Self at
least the Chitta around and it is not Intellect.

With the intellect, let the things belong to the world. It can
identify between two trees and the Chitta does not bother
about it, Chitta is the innermost cover on the Self. Inside Chitta
there is Atman. So, why is it not possible for anyone to realize
it? If possible why does one say it is difficult? The difficulty is
the Intellect. The question, what then I should do, is the
question of the Intellect (Buddhi). Intellect asks, what do you
want me to do?

111
It is the intellect who is complaining. You should say, “I do not
accept and field any question from inside. Ahamkara, let it
come and ask me?” The difficulty arises because the intellect
(Buddhi) can take any amount of education. Say, we are now
talking intellect is passing on the information inside. We are all
happy. If non believer comes to Buddhi states and starts going
back to questions. Fortunately here, you intellect is allowing
the matter to go inside. Ahamkara understand the Truth. Non-
believers put back the questions. It means he raises questions
with intellect and that intellect does not allow him to
experience. It is only the Buddhi that does that.

When you start watching your body, Buddhi slowly disappears

because Buddhi was only physical body in a mirror and
examines the pulse and such things. That is Buddhi (Intellect).
When you start examining your body, watching it acting, you
are watching and it is not the Buddhi. Buddhi has gone into
Consciousness. It gets lost. Buddhi has got absorbed by the Ego
(Ahamkara, The I). in other words, Ahamkara itself is watching.
This is kind of a state known as “Avastha” and that is the
“Bhoomika”. Buddhi does not convince it. I am not seeing
Buddhi playing havoc in real form.

A Dhyani is bound to be a Jnani. The one who does Dhyana is

Jnani only. Definitely Dhyana results in Jnana. That power is
there in it. It is Buddhi only. Actually the Para Dhyanam, the
body consciousness and the consciousness of the world around
is Buddhi. That is what we call absent mindedness. When I am
studying a book for taking an exam tomorrow, the mind might
be going to a movie. Because I want to concentrate on the text
book, it is going abroad, to a move or some other place. The

112
mind wants to be absent there and we say it is absent-
mindedness. Presence of mind means, it wanted to be present.
You trained intellect in the intellect only. Ignore intellect and it
goes. Consciousness is so powerful that not only your intellect
but the intellect of thousands of people can be transcended.
You can shut down your shutters and pull down your shutters
on others also.

The problem then arises as to how to open the shutters and if

they get lost in this. It is easy to lead a man into concentration
but difficult to pull him out, because it is like throwing a bucket
in to the well without a rope and pull it back when there is no
hook attached to it! When there is no rope, the control is not in
your hands. This is why a Guru is there. This kind of Deeksha is
by “Hastha Masthaka Samyoga’ (the kind of discipline induced
by putting the hand on the head by Guru). Deeksha is difficult
to pull the man out into body consciousness. Guru has to do
some Parakaya Pravesha Vidya (technique of entering of into
your body) to go inside and pull him out.

In the case of Dhruva, Vishnu did the above. Dhruva installed

Vishnu inside himself (in Dhyana) and is able to see Vishnu
continuously. He would not open his eyes. Vishnu, physically
appeared before him. He would not open his eyes, because he
is seeing Vishnu inside and so there is no need for him to open
his eyes. Vishnu, because of his all-pervasive nature and
immense power, and because he is Hari, He made this internal
image vanish. Then Dhruva opened his eyes wondering where
his Vishnu (inside) has gone. So he thought Vishnu has come out
physically from inside. It is a strange process!

113
For a Guru it is difficult thing to pull out a man from Samadhi,
which he induced. If the man goes into Samadhi on his own, it
is easy for him to come out. That is why transferring power
9Saktipaata) is not done. When it is done by guru, he is
responsible for his coming out of Samadhi into the world. it is
kike the direction of gravitational force. If you push it down, it
goes in the direction of the gravitational force. It is difficult to
pull it out.

People ask me why I do not give Hasta Mastika Samyogam and

not wise Guru will do it. There are serious difficulties to do it.
When a man is going to leave the world, it can be done. What
Guru does in this process is nothing except taking away his
intellect and the Buddhi vanishes. Will again give back the
Buddhi? Nature is design of God. The machine or the gadget
(mind) is designed by the God with mind, intellect (Buddhi,
Chittam (consciousness), Ahamkara (Ego), life, inside which the
Jivatma (soul) is securely placed somewhere. With Chetana,
Prana Shakti (Life force), it is a wonderful design. Any
interference with this, even in the interest of spiritual
recognition of Self within, even in the right direction also stops
the machine! But to bring the machine back into working is
difficult. It is not like the engine of a motor that can be
switched off. Even there, even switched off and in time if there
is a difficulty in the battery like not having contacts, it does not
work. All Gurus know this!

114
Transcending the Body Consciousness III

Realization is easy if you do not make things difficult for you.

First the desire should be predominant. Second, you should be
always in tapas. Third, you should have faith in the truth.
Fourth, you should not have any doubts about achievement.

You must have the confidence in the truth that you are not the
body nor you are the mind. People often commit the mistake of
believing that mind is in the body. The truth is otherwise. It is
the mind which is carrying the body! For this reason the
Consciousness is also said to be holding the body,
unconsciously!

What must be understood is that basically the body is made up

of Earth, Water, Fire, and air and there in the body only to
sustain its basic ingredient called Earth. If you keep on believing
that you are the body and the mind, the effects of such
thoughts and the consequent actions, result in the
Consciousness also holding the body like the mind does. You
have to categorically disown the untruth you are accustomed to
and embrace the truth. Then the experience happens here and
now.

You must understand that you are now in an unnatural state

since truly you are the Self and not the body. Remember that
whatever happens natural now, is unnatural to the Self. Of
course, to start with, this belief or faith starts in the realm of
mind only. There is no way to know anything about the
progress. It is a very subtle process. Start in right earnest and

115
leave the wrong notions and leave the rest to God!Leave the
wrong notions and the rest to God

116
Universal Consciousness

When we see anything, we see it with a limitation. We

experience anything in life with one sense at a time. At the best
one may experience two senses at a time; but not certainly
more than that. Experiencing anything with all senses at one
time is completeness of Creation. When it happens, there
would not be any distance between the object and himself! For
any object that is the nearest one. It means experiencing the
object by becoming that itself. Experiencing all the objects of
the world at one time, in such a manner is termed “Universal
Consciousness”. When there is no distance there is no Time
also. Time is only another concept of distance. There is Time
only when there is distance!

Actually Universal Consciousness is God. Being in every atom of

the Universe simultaneously God embodied this entire universe.
There is no atom without God. The senses of past, present, and
future do not exist. Contacting within himself the void, devoid
of all the above attributes and manifesting in every atom in this
manner, thus embodying the entire Universe is God with
Universal Consciousness.

The famous saying from Prahlada, “Indu galadandu ledam…etc”

can be correctly understood in this perspective. He said,
“where is it that specifically I can mention about God’s
existence, He is everywhere”. Hiranya Kasapa has asked Him to
be shown in a pillar. If he had asked to be shown within himself
it would have been done so. He would have attained Jnana.
One must have had divine qualities to ask like that. It is because
of his demonic nature he has asked God to be shown in a pillar.

117
What name could we give to such an all-pervading entity. We
may say atman. That is why we say that Atman means not any
particular thing. We discard everything by saying, “Not this, Not
this.” If we state atman is this or that it gets particularized. We
may of course, say for anything “That also is Atman.”

We address God as Sahasra Koti Yuga dharine namah

(embodiment of thousand crores of Yugas). This belongs to one
instant only. What really is the significance of several Yugas
being contained in one instant. The so called present, future
and past is only in one split second of His. From this, one can
visualize what that Time Consciousness is.

One the Consciousness is experienced it again becomes very

difficult to be in the world. Even the world finds it difficult to
contain him. It, of course, is not difficult for him to bear this
world. he may be considered as a mad man. Such an
experience can only be imparted by Guru. What is needed is
constant remembering of this goal to the extent that none of
the other worldly matters should be able to perturb him.

Veda says, “Dhrithiseha Me, Viswancha Me.” Meaning

Universality is only after constant remembrance of this goal.
The Vedantic statements as, “Mahascha Me, Samvincha Me”
follow later. Hence the Universal Consciousness cannot be
granted without the constant remembrance and containment of
this goal! If it happens otherwise, there is the danger of
retrieving from it.

118
When Sadhana is in progress the result will be given; but not
necessarily in the way it is expected. It may happen altogether
in a different way. But the result is always the same.

119
Gazing at a Fixed Form

A rock has an infinite dynamism in it and hence it is static. If one

has to experience what is in it, the best way is to fix looks on it
and go on observing what it does.

For this only a single rock has to be looked upon nothing else,
not even a smaller rock next to it. As you go on looking its form
and state become permanent in your vision. That is, even if you
close your eyes or keep them open, the rock’s shape is always
visible to you. If the gazing is continued, slowly, the outer
peripheral line separating from its surrounding starts
disappearing and a light (Tejas) will be seen in it. As this is
continued, the light only becomes visible and nothing else. By
now its form disappears and the feeling only pervades
everywhere in the vision. Here the rock also becomes Tejas. It
all becomes a single limitless Tejas and no identities of the form
left. However, there is only one thing that will be left that is the
feeling of ‘I’. His existence will not be forgotten and it alone
remains. If at this stage the question “Who am I?” is put, then,
that also will be lost. This is the proper stage for the question to
be put achieve and become the ultimate.

The stage he alone was there with the infinite Tejas

experiencing the entire Universe to its limits. This Tejas is not
universal to its limits. This Tejas is beyond the five elements. It
is this that makes everything in the Universe. Indra, Rudra and
Shiva are all made of this Tejas. That is why it becomes possible
to communicate with anyone or anything in the Universe
without physically going to that Loka or anywhere else. By

120
merely sitting at the same place one can convey calling Indra or
Rudra or anybody else.

Although a maximum period of about 4 years may be required

to achieve this goal, it also gives the ultimate Mukti (liberation).
Even this time limit is only here because one has the mind with
him, which tries to distract and cause hindrance to start with.
During the process, the entire ‘Samskaras’ are instantly burnt in
a flash!

The burning of samskaaras can be explained like this. All that is

seen and enjoyed is because of the duality projected by the
phenomenon of our vision. The ‘Agni Tatwa’ is the cause of
this, which is also responsible for giving a visual shape, creating
the concept of light and shadow which are always together. It is
the blend of these two in various degrees that gives the feeling
of appearance of objects in a shape distinctive to its
surroundings. It is because of the appearance of objects the
desire for experiencing something arises, since they are felt
different from him. The desire not fulfilled remains as
“Samskaras’ in him. For example, consider that an individual
has developed a desire to sit on Indra’s throne and experience
it. This unfulfilled desire remains as “Samskara’ in him to be
fulfilled at some time and in some birth. In this Sadhana one
becomes capable of converting the throne into its casual
“Tejas’. This Tejas is non-dual. Hence in this merger of these, in
Tejas, the experience of Indra’s throne is fulfilled. This is
precisely the underlying phenomenon behind instantaneously
burning of “Samskaras”

121
One can choose a static object to begin and achieve these
results. It could be even a thing like a pumpkin. Choosing the
form of a Guru is undoubtedly the best. That is, one should
start gazing at His form, keep it in the vision all the time by
practice. This alone is enough to achieve the above results even
more effectively.

Bhagavan Raman has advocated meditating on Arunachala (The

Hill) in the heart. This will root out the ego. The phenomenon
is the same as described earlier although the choice of
Arunachala has its own specialty to accelerate the process.

Even though this method can yield the highest results, there is
of course one danger in it. Such a danger is not for the
individual. To the individual, it is undoubtedly the safest.
However, such an individual will be unable to return to live a
normal life which implies that he is lost forever to his kith and
kin. Even in methodologies advocated by Ramana, there have
been a few, who achieved the results but they never lived again
to be available to mankind. Such a methodology is unique and
is probably possible only if he could redo it for the sake of
humanity. He is always interested in the welfare of the
humanity at large, or to be more precise, in the welfare of
beings. It remains to be explored, to device and establish the
technique for the liberated soul for the sake of humanity. Such
a scheme would demonstrate how one could safely achieve the
result!

122
Application to God’s Consciousness - July 7, 1998

God is the omnipresent power!

That power is the basic for even the sky. The sky is the base for
Galaxy and the planets. They, in return are the base for the
living things. So, Eswara is a great Consciousness which
provides the foundation for the sky and the space.

It is because of this Divine Consciousness that all other celestial

are moving around without crossing one another’s orbits, in
their own path like the train on rails. There is no derailment for
them.

That great force (power) is all around but also within us. It is
present in every human being, fish, animal, tress including all
beings. It is present in different things in different ways,
somewhere with awareness, somewhere with more intelligence
and somewhere with less intelligence, and somewhere with
wisdom and so on. But, the Consciousness is the same! The
Spirit which is present is the same Spirit which is present in
man.

The tree does not have an ego. We humans have an ego which
makes us say this is my body that is my house and so on. But
the birth death growth are the same for all both the tree and
the man. As there is no person in the tree, who will feel sad if
it’s branches are cut? The tree is ready to die when it is alive! It
gives fruits and nobody gives thanks to it. If the tree is full of
fruits people will throw stones to get the fruits. Even when the
tree is dried-up and taken to be sued as fuel, it does not feel sad
in it.

123
On the contrary, man when you do him a favor, he feels that it
is not sufficient. Man thinks of causing harm to the other
person to gain happiness. His intellect, due to Maya (illusion)
and ignorance keeps roaming around in unrighteous acts. Being
on the path of Dharma or Adharma sins are merits arise. So we
have to experience them.

If you keep on remembering that great Consciousness which is

holding this entire universe whom we call as God, that is Tapas!
Then you do not have to desire and the sins of your past births
are washed and destroyed and everything moving smoothly.
There will not be any sorrow. There will only be happiness we
should constantly do more Tapas and less desiring. God serves
those who do like this…

124
Meditation on Forms of God

Any man meditating on forms of God at the mental level

reaches the conscious level after a long time. Consciousness
does not all the concept to penetrate easily. So he takes his
time may be some years like ten or twenty years. Mind is
carrying the concept. It pierces through the Consciousness after
terrific effort. Then Consciousness reflects that form. That is
Self. Then he says “I have seen God. I have seen Ganapathi.”
This is the process.

Consciousness itself is looking at something which is capable of

becoming Vishnu, Siva, Brahma, Nature or anything you like,
you call it. All of it is there in you. One darshan for a moment
will destroy many of the Samskaras. When you come out even
after a minute’s experience, whether it is one minute or a
million years, it is just the same. It is all the same because that
in that minute, the past is destroyed.

You have a future because you have a past. There is a past for
you if you have a future. You can handle a brilliant future
without any past. For instance, the brilliant Sun has no past.
We say He was there even billion years ago. He has no past
because yesterday’s memory does not linger in Him. He is pure
Consciousness (energy) of the present and future only. They
have Consciousness but no memory, no contents and no past!
Your memories in sub-conscious levels are the store house of
your past. Therefore that is called the memories in the
Consciousness not the memories in the mind. Memories in the
Consciousness are not known to the mind. So our past is gone.
Therefore our future too is gone!

125
These are the words because they contain Absolute Truth. Your
mind has opened the doors. Consciousness opened the doors,
sub-consciousness has vanished. They went into depth of
Consciousness already. Therefore is easy to happen.

People complain “No matter how much I do I am not able to

experience anything. I am like the same old man. There
appears to be no change.” That is not correct. He does not
readily take it. Or they may say “In the Shastra, Consciousness
is different” and they come out with a Sloka. The literature in
the last 1000 or 2000 years is voluminous and people went on
writing and writing!

126
Contemplation on Forms of God - March 30, 2000

“God has created your mind, intellect, consciousness, ego and

everything. What is His message after His creation?

He has asked you not to suffer. Did He direct you to suffer? If

that is so, no one can save you! I am taking His intention that
we should be alright. That is the very basis for hoping for
achievements. If His intention were to make you suffer, then,
there are no questions and no answers. Of course, there are
dangerous things around. But, who asked you to embrace
them? God’s intention is that you should not suffer. The
intention meant for you is one thing. The creation or Nature
running its course is another thing. His direction to you is
different from His activity.

There are billions of souls yet to come into animal bodies before
becoming human beings. It is a big phenomenon. Why do you
embrace everything and blame the God for your suffering?
Creation is meant for billions of souls that have to evolve.
Having become a human being with intellect, what is His
message for you at this stage? You take it. This is correct logic.
Many people blame the God, “Why did He create us? Why does
He make us suffer? How can we call Him merciful?” the whole
thing is voluntary. All the time, people are ready to suffer!
What can He do about it?”

“There is your finger. There is your eye. The finger can injure
the eye. Are you doing it all the time” is it possible? Why are
you not doing it? You are capable of doing so many things!
There is certain wisdom in the man telling him what is

127
appropriate for him and what is not. The same, wisdom, if
extended further to the logical limits should tell him what is
good for him. Constant awareness of the truth! You do not
have to know what kind of God it is, what are His qualities, what
is His state and so on. That is the Truth whatever it is. It is very
charming and beautiful to think of the form of God. A Trisulam,
Rudra Deva; Sada Shiva; Kailash. The moment you are thinking
of Kailash and Siva, on Kailash, pervading the whole mountain,
at that time, where are you? You are with Him. In other words
you have not shifted your consciousness anywhere. You have
become that. That is a reality. You have transformed into Him.
The self has transformed itself. The Shastras say that mind
takes the shape of the object it perceives. In the case of
Divinity, Trisulam, Siva occupying the whole Kailash, you are not
there. Only that is there. You have transformed yourself. The
process is resulting in ceasing of your ego. The man is gone to
that extent. He is not there at that time. That is the power of
that picture.”

This is sweet, charming, beautiful Truth. When you say Shiva,

Kailash and all that, it is not as though Siva is on Kailash, which
is in a particular latitude and longitude. No! That picture that
you are seeing again is all pervading. The location is for your
convenience. When you say Vishnu in Vaikuntam, does it mean
that He is not present elsewhere? Location is for the
convenience of the body – conscious – mind, which knows only
the physical and the time limitations. Conditioned mind cannot
think of anything, which cannot be put into space, time, form
and name. There is absolutely no problem. You can start with
that. The moment you thought of Him, this picture, you have

128
ceased to exist. It has become you and you have become that.
That is the power of that truth. That is the self-annihilation of
the very common nature of the untruth. Self disappears! That
is Tapas. You can attend to everything. One does not have to
declare oneself unfit for other things. Sickness and everything
disappears.” - Guruji

129
Matter – Spirit Relationship - March 30, 1999

Physical living is not living; it is only existence, a vegetable

existence at that. Once the awakening or the desire for
awakening is born in a man, then it is called living. I call that as
living without interruption that means no death. This life
continues, the living continues beyond this physical existence.
That process automatically reaches its logical end, in success.

Many people have taken to many schools of thought, dos and

don’ts. Most of these thoughts and practices become part of
their material lives which is why they get discontinued. Every
time a man is re-incarnated, he is again in square number one
waiting for a school of thought. The continuity in living is
broken. What I therefore suggest what gives you peace is to
accept all without proposing any changes in the pattern of
living, like dressing, eating or drinking, meditating, reading and
so on, without introducing any kind of a new concept. Let it be
as where is. This is how a man transforms from unreality to
reality, from momentary existence to a forever living. The
process takes place automatically. It is triggered by that force
which is pervading that material nature rather than introducing
any new life style which is only material living. It is not that
deep to touch the Spirit below. Spirit necessarily pervades
everything and everywhere. Change in the visible, material
matter of fact, styles, do not serve any purpose. There, only the
matter is re-arranged. I have always believed and got it
confirmed by experience in my own self and in others over and
over again that just rearrangement of material styles of life does
not make matter absent. It is only the color and picture that
change.

130
What exactly needs to be done is not to waste time in these
experiments. Stay where you are; be what you are. Live as you
are living. Change the direction of the focus of your attention.
Take it away from the external and start focusing on the matter
which it pervades. It merely supports, it holds the matter in its
position.

Another property of the spirit is laws of nature. Magnetism,

heat and things like that. Such properties are the supporters of
matter. Now there are matter the laws of the spirit that control
which are called properties of matters physicists would like to
call it. Physicists are trying to study the behavior of the matter.
Magnetism according to them is a property of the matter.
Matter has no property at all. The spirit that pervades and
supports matter has such properties like heat, light, magnetism.
Property of the spirit is the behavior of the matter. Spirit
contains certain properties. Otherwise, spirit becomes
inanimate. An inanimate spirit cannot support animate matter.
Or it cannot be responsible for the animation of the matter. For
example, life is responsible for our movements. Life is a
property of the spirit in matter. Any kind of attempts to change
the external pattern of your living, like wearing the dress or
chanting the mantra are only changes in material life. They do
not make you go closer to the spirit. We have to be
independent of the properties of the spirit to reach the spirit.

The arrangement in this nature is there is pure spirit and it has

properties and these properties are governing the matter. We
are matter governed by the spirit in it, manifesting through its
properties. Fire manifests as heat and hunger. The same fire
which has made us hungry also enables us to digest the food. It

131
is double function. If it is not so, you would not be able digest.
So, at every stage, the functional aspect of the property of the
spirit is changing from stage to stage. It is handling over the
material to the next stage of evolution. Whatever is responsible
for the sprouting of the seed when it is given earth and water,
that spirit is responsible for the growth of the tree, yield of the
fruit and creation of the seed in the fruit again. At every stage it
is functioning differently. This is the property of the spirit and
not that of matter as the Scientists would claim.

When I was being by my professor about properties of matter, I

went on looking into empty space. He asked what it was about
and I told him. ‘Sir, does matter have any properties at all is my
question’. He was sensitive man and said ‘we will discuss it
latter’. Well, that is beside the point.

Today, when we are attempting to rearrange the life styles

because we think we have taken to a spiritual life, we are
continuing to in the material life with a different pattern which
is no better than the earlier one. It is only being different
without being better! This change has not been known to give
any rewards to anybody in the history of mankind. The core
spirit’s properties are manifesting in different forms differently.
The same spirit is responsible for the pig to behaving in one
particular way and the elephant in another fashion. So, when
you look at the spirit, the properties are visible before you and
the behavior and the behavior of the matter is obvious to you.
Manifestation of spirit in matter makes you recognize the
difference between a man and a woman, a tree and a bird and
so on. All is matter, five elements as we call it. The same spirit
and the same properties operate differently in different

132
patterns of matter. For this reason, a mere rearranging of
matter does not make you get any new experience!

You are a human being in human body. suppose you take a

decision not to be angry. It only means that every time you are
angry, you would only be dissuading yourself from expressing it.
You have not destroyed the seeds of anger in you. So, external
re-arrangement in matter does not really matter because it
does not touch the spirit. So pay attention to all pervasive
secret cores the spirit in everything, animate or inanimate. In
the inanimate, you do not notice the functions of the properties
of the spirit. In the animate, you notice them which you call the
properties of the matter.

This way, you are crossing the threshold of matter, entering the
properties which you will be able to perceive closely in all the
animate and inanimate creation. The same core is found. The
same properties of the spirit are found to be working. Now
your attention has gone to the spirit. When this take place,
when you start understanding the core spirit which is
responsible for the variety of matter and its behavior from the
same force, as different from the same one thing, you have
understood the reality behind the matter and the matter is
therefore dismissed! It is consciously dismissed with you
knowing it. Subconsciously, you are with the spirit. With the
spirit, you rule all the matter, all the properties of the
functioning in that matter and also reach the core, the sweet
truth, in everything that you perceive and see. Therefore, it is
you who are not talking, teaching or touching but, bringing
about a change in the behavior of the matter in that particular

133
human being or a dog or a lion, taming them and changing
them.

The matter is again pervaded by what is known as the mind.

Mind is again governed by the laws of the properties of the
spirit. Mind and matter are one. When matter is destroyed,
mind is also destroyed. Therefore, you do not have the
memories of the past. Mind dies with matter. So, mind is
immaterial part of matter. When you are able to see the core
spirit, the truth, the functions of mind and matter do not matter
at all. They are insignificant. You are able to understand the
secret in the person and bring about a change, without
touching, talking or teaching. You perceive yourself in the
other. The spirit that is in my body is there in your body. In the
tree, in the bird, that spirit is to be located and paid attention
to. Then, whatever change your mind in your body thinks of for
others is automatically obeyed.

My mind cannot change your mind and my body cannot bring

about any change in your body. The spirit in me touches the
spirit in you and my mind follows my spirit into you, my mind
works in you. That is the operation of the Master. If this is
seen, you are already released from the bondage of the physical
body and mind. You are going to be the governor of that mind
and matter. The law of Karma is binding only on the mind and
body and not on the soul. This is because the Karma has been
indulged in, by the mind and body alone and by the soul. The
soul did not indulge in any karma. That soul is another name for
this spirit. If the spirit is in the body, it is called soul. Otherwise,
it is called spirit. We are using only easily available small words
in English to mean it.

134
Compassion is received and not generated or created at any
point of time. Compassion is like Sunlight. It is available there!
It is not exclusively switched on or given to you. NO! You
noticed that you have started taking it. So, there is nothing like
showing or giving compassion. Whatever is there, you have
come under its influence, and you are bathing in it like it is with
Sunlight and water. The compassion is nothing but the
attachment of my soul and mind to your soul and mind. I
perceive it and then, you pay attention to your Master who is
looking into your spirit. What you receive is a neutral process
without a Sankalpa.

Once the problem is presented to the perceiver, it gets

dissolved instantaneously. It exists no more. That is all. There
is no process necessary for this. The moment you applied it is
over. You are like a small stream, disappearing into a river
which disappears into ocean. There is the sizeable existence of
the results of Karma. What is happening is this. You apply to
the Master. Now, you understand the function and the action
of the Master. The same properties of the Master are there
everywhere, in everyone. In this sense, anyone is a Master. All
that is necessary is to stop paying attention to your karma and
yourself. “Pay attention to the Spirit that is presents
everywhere”. Well, when you are able to handle others karma
as well, your karma cannot be a problem to you. What is
achieved is a Universal Consciousness which shows your-self
everywhere, in everyone and in everything. This kind of an
otherwise meaningless sentence is casually uttered. “Well, in
the jargon of Yoga, there is a ‘sookshma Sareeram (Inch-man) in
you. It is like a dot. That dot is an atmospheric or etheric

135
reflection of your own body. a miniature of your body in which
the dot exists. That dot is Paramatma. That sookshama
Sareeram which is the soul (Tejas) vanishes when it goes into
Paramatma never to return”.

You can relate to Yogic language and understand the same

truth. It can be expressed in many ways and in many languages.
Every time the same truth is conveyed. So, realize when
Vedanta says that you are not this or that, the matter is not you.
The properties of the matter are given by the spirit. When the
spirit withdraws, the matter is dropped. What is withdrawal of
the spirit? It is only withdrawing properties of the spirit into
itself, in a particular location. This is because the spirit never
withdraws. It is everywhere. Where can it go? Properties are
withdrawn and the manifest properties are withdrawn. Then,
when the light is off, matter becomes matter! It is no more
governed by the laws of spirit. When you see this, it should not
take a very long time for anyone to become a Master of oneself
and the self anywhere. There is no great abyss or an ocean that
is dividing you and your soul. It is with you, here and now. This
is first analyzed and thoroughly understood intellectually also
before it is understood sometimes.

Understanding the Truth is a long drawn out process, involving

intellectual gymnastics. Experiencing it does not take a long
time. Analyzing, synthesizing and all that is similar to the
trapeze in the circus. You look at the circus artist with wonder
and think that he is a superman. Actually, he is only as strong or
as weak as you are. He has merely developed the skills through
training. So, the soul should not be thought of something
impossible to achieve. Of course, the achievement is great the

136
achieving is not a great task. After achievement you are great in
the sense that you are no smaller. You are no more the
sufferer. You are the giver. What is therefore necessary in this?
“Forget about the material pattern making and the external
teachings and preaching about practices. A small indication to
look into the spirit, may be in a few words is enough. Out of
that attitude, ‘Attention to the spirit inside’ the philosophy of
living emerges rightly, what attitude we should have towards
good and bad in life. The intellect automatically learns these
things from the spirit it is the source of all the intelligence and
wisdom. When it is looked, it is responsible for all the bondage.
When it is forgotten, even in being forgotten, it performs as
bondage. Bondage cannot be an independent factor of your
own. You are not capable of bondaging yourself also.
Therefore it is “Function by Absence and Function by Presence”.
When you look into it, you realize, you become the Master.
When you forget the presence of the spirit inside, that
forgetfulness is bondage. There is no phenomenon in this world
which is not ascribable to this because it is in the Master, in
negative things, sin, fear, death and in everything’.

Following the Conscience - August 17, 2000

To be a Gnani or Moorkha is the birthright of every soul. To try

to become something that you are not is called loss of your
independence. You being dictated by the opinion of others are
not conscience. Coming, back, conscience does not look at
others. It looks at you, your actions, your thoughts, and your
judgments – which is what conscience is. This Conscience has
to be educated to give you the correct answers for all questions
in your life.

Who will educate the Conscience? Not the mind! There are
many scholars. Minds are highly educated. They are brilliant
they can speak on all Vedas, extempore-very brilliant. But the
question is, is the mind sharp and educated? Is the Conscience
educated? That is a different matter. The Conscience has to be
educated. That education of Conscience is known as Dharma.
Dharma is righteousness, being always right. It does not mean
that you will gain anything. Dharma may show you the path
where you are likely to lose many things. Conscience is
educated about Dharma and mind is educated sharply about
adharma. That is the nature of mind!

Mind always looks at your pockets, bank accounts, your body,

and your material happiness. Conscience, which is educated
about Dharma that is righteousness, does not care for them.

Conscience is very difficult to obey. That needs courage. If you

develop conscience in you from today, you will reach your
ultimate goal. Again the question is why arises. Why should I
become something? In this path, when you reach your goal, at

138
the end of your journey, you will realize, I have done the right
thing, any conscience is correctly educated about righteousness
and I have followed it always, what I have done or not done was
always right. So there are no regrets. Success of life is called
the regretless life!

You should not give way to your mind to but in! in old age,
when you take long evening walks your mind will bug you and
bother you. At that time, one can speak to oneself. ‘I should
have done this, etc.,’ speaking to himself is a miserable
condition of old age and it is not a healthy one. His conscience
is bugged, his own judgments are directed against himself,
criticizing him. It is a sure way of developing an ulcer. It never
dies. If he followed his conscience, he would say, ‘Yes, I was
very correct in our running after wealth and money
accumulations.’ Conscience gives you the strength and courage.
If you follow your conscience rightly, you will not have regrets in
your old age. If you are not, you will always regret for
something or the other. It is minus mark on you success of the
life. Regretless of evening life is called “Successful” life.
Remember this!

We are all told about moral values and righteous things. We

know these things! Knowing all principles of morality is one
thing. Knowing how to apply a moral value appropriately at the
right time is another thing. Application of value is called
“Discretion”. That is knowledge of the Conscience. It means
correct judgment in applying the moral values. Sometimes,
telling a lie may be morally very correct. There are two levels of
propriety, knowing the moral very well and applying it in a
situation whether you are depriving somebody of something,

139
harming somebody, going against the interest of somebody or
you are responsible for somebody’s great loss.

For example, a girl is chased by some goons. The girl comes to

your home for shelter. You gave her shelter. Later, the goons
come to your home and enquire about the girl. What would
you do? For the sake of speaking the truth would you give away
the girl to the goons? No, the right way of application is
falsehood. Everything in the world has some good purpose.
Falsehood, theft for example! Theft is one of the 64 arts that
we have. In Rudram, we say, Lord of all thieves is the great
quality that he is praying about. People used to call everybody
names in those days. A thief steals even when a jewel is made
for his own daughter. It may be false also, we do not know.
The idea is people are simple and they are committing sins. So,
for punishment they have to suffer at somebody’s hands. Those
who are responsible for the suffering of somebody are ruled by
you. So you are the punisher through the people. Otherwise,
would He come and kick you personally? So, he has created the
bad people to punish the bad ones. So in creation nothing is
wrong. Everything must be understood. This is how you
educate your conscience about the application of moral value
appropriately at the right time for the good cause. Not for your
benefit. If that is done for your personal material benefit, that
is wrong. We should be courageous and bold to know about
this. So this is dharma.

Dharma is not a list of moral values. Application of Principle is

Dharma. That is called the education of Conscience. Such a
Conscience will always guide. It is not necessary for a father,
grandfather, teacher or a guru to tell you that Conscience is

140
enough to lead a life. The second thing is however much we are
educated about the morality, righteousness and Dharma in the
world, still there may be misadventure sometimes. The
conscience must be surrendered to the God. ‘God you are
present everywhere-inside me also. I am following my
conscience thinking that I am doing the right thing. If there is
anything wrong in my doing or thinking, please guide me from
within’. First of all, there should be desire not to wrong. ‘Come
what may, if I lose or gain, I do not want to be wrong’. That
desire gives courage. Whatever may happen to me, if you are
the guide presiding over my conscience, I shall be guided
correctly and I am not responsible for what I do since you are
presiding over that. This is known as surrender to God. So,
education of the conscience, application of moral values,
surrendering the judgment to the God is the right thing to do.

You do not have to be successful in life, but a great and right

person in life. Success is not only the right thing in life. Sacrifice
of success is also right thing. Sacrifice of property is also a right
thing in life for some value. So, then if you put this question
“Why” for everything, the answer is there for you. It may not
be ultimately true. It may be relatively true for that moment.
Follow it. Keep this question always with you whatever you do
that is guided by desires, ambitions, and judgments of others
binding on you – things like that. So, a man can be very happy
even if he does not get anything or if there is no success. Why?
His inner voice – that is conscience starts developing slowly and
tells him ‘Do not bother about it’. You have lost his game and
you will continue to lose it tomorrow and day after. It is likely
to happen. Do not forget, it is good for you!

141
Our regrets are results of our own judgments. We think success
in a particular adventure is very important. May be losing that
adventure is certainly good for you also, we don’t know.
Surrender to God – Surrender to destiny. There is a destiny for
everyone! I am not touching that now. I am talking only about
conscience, educating the conscience, the refinement of
education, righteousness and sacrifice and not regretting for
anything when you are old. Happiness or the opposite of it is
not necessarily bad in the ultimate meaning of life. Losses,
difficulties, troubles are not to be considered as bad. When you
gain happiness sorrow is bad. When you aim gain, loss is bad.
So, it is termed bad because you have trained your mind to
think like that. Life must be taken as it is. Nothing is important
except following your conscience. You will not have regrets in
life.

Apply it in every aspect of life. Even patriotism is belief in God.

You put this question as to why should be a good man is also a
question. Certainly, why should you not be a bad man with the
result of it? Basically these moral values have been questioned.
The ‘Why’ has been applied to almost all philosophies, religions
and belief in God by rationalists. Those rationalists have never
got answer for this. They ended up only in rationalism. God has
never bothered to be believed. If so, He would have taken a
huge devilish form before us and threatened us to Him.
Suppose if He appears before the full session of parliament and
say ‘Don’t forget I am here’, I will punish those who are not
righteous things would have been far better than now or they
would not have been better at all, who knows! They would
have passed a resolution to ban this God! Man can do

142
anything! The greatest thing about the wisdom of God is never
attempting to be worshipped or to prove to anyone that He
exists. That is called the ultimate wisdom!

He believes in benefiting everyone and everything in this world

and allows every creature to grow up to elevate. Develop that
kind of a sense to realize what is good for himself, ultimate. So
when he wants to realize what is really good for himself, he
would have belief in me. That is the attitude of God, before
that he will also refuse to believe God. He would care to believe
the wrong side of God. He is not anxious. He allows you to
grow!

143
Guru’s Role

The Guru always looks at the conscience of the disciple. It is his

duty. He perceives whether the disciple’s consciousness is
disturbed or not. If it is disturbed, he does what he wants to do
about it, without looking into the factors that caused the
disturbance. Thereby the disciple is protected and his privacy
also intact. The body is held by the mind and mind by the
consciousness. Therefore the consciousness can also be said to
be holding the body, may be unconsciously. Guru is watching
the consciousness for any disturbance. You are watched and
not your thoughts, your thoughts, health, tenor and their
impact on you, the person is watched. He lends his presence to
you in your mind not to intrude your so called privacy but to
help you rendering yourself free from the clutches of unhealthy
and out of place thought patterns. Trying to convert your
handicap in to our advantage, he occupies your thoughts only to
lead you to that realm devoid of any thought.

Guru, the Master, who walks into your life will clean your body,
cleanse your mind and keep your conscience clear of dirt. Since
you are not able to go above the mind and the body, he comes
down to be in contact with your body he entered your mind and
will take you along to your consciousness. From there he will
enable to arrive at your sub-consciousness which would be
ready to reflect the un-involving soul. When your mind and
sub-consciousness shine both in unison, then you will realize
what the Master has done for you. However, if you persist with
the ignorance of still reaching to the world and pursue with
such ignorance you will never be able to realize what is given
nor draw consciously anything from Him! -Guruji

Pure Consciousness - Suddha Chittam

Sath-Chit-Ananda & its Form (Telugu Discourse)

Chit means Chittamu. In English language, it is known as

Consciousness. It attaches itself to physical body and conveys
the notion that I am this body, I am a man and my name is so
and so etc., Instead knowing the truth about Consciousness
man is going outwards and towards the understanding of
physical attributes and with much concern about the fulfillment
of its desires. During this process, Consciousness always
remains in the background and letting the body do its actions. A
life living in consciousness and experiencing the Jnana from the
bodily attributes, Consciousness will never externalize its
worldly activity. It is similar to the joy that one derive from
external perceptions…unable to continue. - Guruji

145
ChiChaakti

Chit means ‘’Having’ (Vunduta). It also represents having it in

the past present and also in the future. It is not having for same
time and not having other times but, it is permanent and always
having. The perceiving ability thru the activity of the senses is
Chit (Consciousness). It is Consciousness through contact of
external world! The ability to comprehend without anyone
teaching what is seen or observed is Chittam. Senses are only
serving the body and mind. The perception is purely due to the
Prana Shakti which is also known as ‘ChiChaakti”. It is the Jnana
to know that something is there regardless whether the eyes
are open or closed. The perception that something is there
without any one teaching is called Chit. The third one is known
as Ananda which is being experienced due to the life force that
is present with in the body. It also experiences sadness as well.
The consciousness is responsible for experiencing both happy
and unhappy events.

Knowing that there is Satch-Chit-Ananda which is nothing other

than pure perennial joy and Parameswara is the source of this
Ananda. Man is limited and his consciousness is based with
physical body and as a result it is unable to comprehend the
Chit or Chichakti in others.

Egoless Pure Consciousness of Buddhism - April 10, 1982

The concept of Buddhism is that the state of soul; is egoless

pure consciousness. From where the soul has come is Soonyam
(nothing). Buddha went to that end. All the births are only this
side. It is said that the egoless pure consciousness has come out
of nothing “with reference to whom it nothing” should be the
question to be raised. This is key question and very important
one. The state of a soul with reference to space-time
continuum and with reference to senses is to be known. If
there are no senses, mind and intellect the question ‘To
Whom?’ does not arise.

The Para Siva is Soonya (Nothing). That is Nirguna (unqualified

Brahman). The difference is only in the names. Before entering
into Soonya, Sada Siva goes with a will and comes out of it.
There is no difference between Soonya and Para Siva. “Jeevo
Deva Sanaathanah” means that the origin of Soul in far off.
How Buddhism traces the origin is to be noticed. As long as
there is soul is with the body, it has consciousness. After
leaving the body consciousness one knew his own state with his
own Consciousness. That is why the state of Consciousness
before final departure is very important. Buddha experienced
his state means he had learnt.

Unlike what all we experience through sense experience beyond

senses, being in the body, is the experience of God. Experience
of higher worlds is like that. One cannot perceive it with naked
eye because it is beyond senses. Being in the body and
experiencing high Consciousness with this Consciousness is the
experience. There is ego if there is a body. But the body has

147
limitations. When you are conscious of the body you are
conscious of the ego too and so there is experience. Hunger,
appetite, fullness of stomach is also experiences. Beyond the
body and beyond the traditions of the body without limitations
to this, even contact, with this world can be shed off. Body is
dependent on the sense, but Consciousness is not senses, what
is gone through by the ego devoid of the sensor is experience.
Such an experience comes from the Source! In such an
experience you get stillness. In that stillness, you are calm. In
that calm, you get peace. Slowly the ego is merged in the
source from where it desires this experience. -Guruji

Peace & Pure Consciousness

Among all the living creatures, man is the most thought

governed being on earth. The thinking principle in him guides,
governs and motivates his actions or inaction. Mind has been
the subject of study for all thinkers and it will be so forever. The
mind studies itself as it fascinates it most. This is an
investigation never completing even after the entire physical
universe has been completely understood!

Aryan philosophy has identified four fundamental stages of this

mind principle, namely, ‘The Mind (Manas), in association with
the Discretion (intellect), Consciousness (Chitta) and the sense
of Ego or the Self. The healthy functioning of these is necessary
for a safe and proper living.

In life the man is perpetually engaged with what he perceives in

and receives from the outer world. This state ceases while

148
these functions are suspended temporarily during sleep, or with
death, when the world laden mind involves into the
Consciousness of the Self. In the ultimate analysis what has
been acquired to accompany the ego beyond death is nothing
pure and pleasant. This leaves the Consciousness as an impure
entity seeking another body. After all, the life’s activity has not
added anything to the ego by way of lasting experience or
knowledge, happiness or truth that distinguishes from other
men. This truth is referred to as God, who experiences the
imminence with all its contents, sentient, insentient, organic
and inorganic etc. This reality leaves the man in a state of
subconscious fear of death and under current emptiness. This
natural state is described as man’s eternal bondage to
ignorance – ignorance of reality.

What is reality? As against this individual body consciousness,

ego or self, there is all pervading Consciousness in this universe.
The first three stages of the mind are absent in this state of
universal consciousness. They are only present in individual
Consciousness like a man or an animal in a singled out body.
although universal state is also consciousness by itself, it is
called pure and it is not experiencing death or birth, or pain or
pleasure etc.

Peace is the absence of mind of plurality of thoughts. That is

when the mind is mindful of nothing in particular. If peace is
this a state of mind, it is a condition in which the functions in all
the four stages of the mind principle have ceased. To stay in
this condition is called Samadhi in Yoga Shastra. This however,
cannot be active living. But Samadhi gives so much of non-
world experience to human ego that its influence enables him in

149
normal life to be free from the disturbing influences of the
world. His Consciousness is then in a state of relative purity
being freed from the influence of his world experiences as they
cannot go deep into his consciousness or being. Such freedom
from the results of experiences of the world is a state of purity
of consciousness. The world cannot make any in roads into the
depths of such ego, which is conscious of itself alone, while
being a sentient being in the living outer world. Such pure
consciousness achieved through practiced peace of mind
ultimately results in a lasting peace and freedom from bondage
of existence.

The path to such an achievement is given by Yoga Shastra which

enjoins upon the practitioner a particular disciplined way of life,
both inner and physical under the tutelage of a Master.

Meditation is the actual practice in which the mind

concentrates on nothing in the world. In the termination of life
in such a state, mind is destroyed forever, and consciousness is
purified from the go and its attachments, once and for all time.

Paramatma, The Dot

Chitta Vrithi – Chittoparathi - Nov. 25, 1987

Chitta is pure Consciousness only. It should have been full with

Self but it gets entangled with intellect (Buddhi) and gets
pleasures and sorrows, loss and profit of the external world.
Dirt clings to it. All these are acquired. That is why they can be
cleared off. Once they are gone it again becomes pure and on
its own. Once they are gone it again becomes pure and is on its
own.

The Yoga Shastra Patanjali starts and deals with the cleaning of
Consciousness (Chitta Vrithi Nirodha). There again, the intellect
is used and Consciousness is turned towards Spirit and is
completely cleansed from all the accumulated dirt. If the world
is not seen for some time, even if the eyes are kept open then
the Samskaras get destroyed and the Chitta becomes pure.

The world reflects on the mirror of Consciousness (Chitta). It

must be made impermeable without making it reflect. The
world also penetrates and perforates the Consciousness. The
one who makes the Consciousness impermeable does not suffer
from it! Such a state must be acquired. The impermeable state
is referred to as Chittoparathi. The Consciousness (Chitta) filled
with self does not get attracted by the world. All relationships
ion the world are relative only and not absolute. Truth alone is
Absolute!

151
The Experience of Truth

The body has a relationship with the earth, which has a

relationship with planetary system of the solar system. The
solar system in turn has a direct relationship in the zodiacal
wheel, what we call the ecliptic. The twelve zones are the
primary origin of all the forces that go over to solar system. This
one primarily, and then the same forces are passed on to the
earth of which we are the products.

Our body is a product of the earth. Our consciousness is a

product of the solar system; our mind is a product of the moon.
The ego is a reflection of the Sun and the working of our life
with all its complexities of feelings and experiences is the
product of the intra-planetary influences and an admixture of
the planetary forces that are incident on earth. This is our
mating.

Any part our life, any aspect our life, is related to some
composition of planetary forces and therefore when a man has
to overcome some kind of difficulties in his life, whether
physical, mental or psychological, he has to approach the origin
of the problem in the astrological sense and deal with that
particular planetary force, propitiating it to make it more
benevolent to him. This process has been going on in India, in
Indians, since ancient times and the Yagna that is performed
through the ‘Mantras’ in various Vedas is always directed to
propitiate and please and make the forces benevolent, the
forces that govern our material life.

152
The purpose of Yagna that is performed is to make our material
life more comfortable, our mental condition more relaxed, our
emotional life more balanced, leading ultimately to an inner
most wellbeing. This is common approach of all, irrespective of
whether a particular individual is following the path of self-
realization or following the path of any spirituality or not. This
is commonly applicable to one and all.

For those few, who are interested in spiritual approach, who

would like to know what the ego means, why it is confirming to
limitations, when and what should be done to free it from these
limitations, what is the nature of the goal he has to achieve,
their planetary influences could be somewhat of a different
order. To him Sun is the soul, moon is the mind, and the
planets and zodiacal signs are the body. Through the moon and
the mind which is a gateway to the inner recesses of
Consciousness, he approaches crossing gateway after gateway
and reaches the ultimate Truth, that is the soul in time and
when the mind is able to travel inward and when it reaches the
immediate presence of the soul, the mind cannot exist there as
an independent entity anymore. It merges into it. The mind
has to be totally destroyed when an experience of all pervasive
ultimate truth has to be achieved. As long as there is mind and
the mind quests to see truth inside the whole thing is only a
mental process. Mind can always imagine many things and
their imagined object may be existing elsewhere or only a
figment of imagination, not necessarily true also. Therefore it
has been part of the course in spiritual lessons, first to define
the nature of the goal.

153
What is Atman and what is the nature of the experience of the
Atman that ego can have? What kind of experience it can hope
to get when it reaches the goal? The experiences that have
been described in Yoga Shastra or Vedanta Shastra have
amplified the greatness of the feeling into very simple
expression. If he is very great, he feels no more the very
limitations he has been in so far. He feels one with the Universe
and he feels that there is nothing in the world different from
himself. This is a kind of Universal Ego elevated to the oneness,
annihilating, transcending all differences of form and name.
that oneness with the Universe is our ultimate goal. That
experience is capable of destroying our ‘Karma’ that has
accumulated over a series of manifestations, incarnations and
lives on this earth. Without destroying this ‘Karma’ a man is
bound to return to this earth endlessly, helplessly without any
choice of his own, and in every birth with the further risk of
going down in the lane of happiness and into the abyss of total
ignorance.

This Atman is described as pure light and the description is

related to the sense of sight in man. If it is described as Mantra
OM, it is related to the sense of hearing. But, when the actual
experiences take place all the five senses in man experience the
Truth. The sense of sight and hearing are only paths to a
particular goal which when experienced by all the senses or five
senses as you would often call them, and when the five senses
experience the truth, that experience is not the of any particular
sense and is the experience of the innermost Ego. That is the
Chitta or Ahamkara, the ‘I’ in man. When ‘I’ experiences

154
anything that it is not as though one of the senses is
experiencing it.

To make it more elaborate, a simple God cannot be seen! You

can talk to God. For convenience sake God cannot be seen. He
cannot be heard, cannot be touched, not smelt, but what is it
that we can have about God with us? What kind of relationship
can we hope to have with God? God can be experienced. It is
far above all the sensory organs. They are the vehicles or the
media through which we experience only the world around
whereas all the five senses when concentrated upped the point
of ego, can at once experience the ultimate truth, which is far
beyond the seen, and the experienced world, which is the base
on which the world is sustain.

It is the source from which the world of the five elements and
the complexity of life is born and again it is the source into
which the world merges. That experience of God cannot for
that reason be experienced by any one of the senses. The mind
will not be able to describe it. It can only describe that which
can be experienced by any one of these senses or more.
Example, light and sound or the sound and touch or the light
and the touch or the light sound and touch simultaneously.
These can be experienced by the senses only and therefore the
mind can certainly describe them. If the experience is beyond
the five senses, the mind cannot report about it or describe it.
Therefore that experience of the soul, the ego, Ahamkara or the
Chitta. They all merge into one experience when there is
experience of Truth. That experience of truth is known as Self-
Realization. Simultaneously, it is the realization of the falsity of
the seen external, material and physical world. when that

155
experience is obtained, the material world that the five senses
are able to see around us become false, like the darkness
disappearing when the light is switched on. When that
experience is there, the world does not exist because the Ego ‘I’
has merged into ultimate Truth. It does not exist any longer as
a separate entity or as an individual ego in relation to the
material world around.

The experience is sought in all spiritual practices. The process is

generally known as yoga and the great seers in this country
have, in one voice, stressed the importance of the desire to
have the experience in a man for being successful in the path
and dismissed the importance of any other qualification. The
leaning, intelligence, knowledge, wisdom, sharpness of intellect
or goodness, for that matter, a good character, none of these by
themselves can be qualification to have this experience. A
person without a claim to learning, knowledge of shastras or
Vedas, or any other qualification is not disqualified to get the
experience. All that is needed is absolute sincerity of Tapas,
perseverance, and self-confidence with the firm belief that the
path followed is perfect in itself and his Guru taking him in that
path is capable of taking him over there. -Guruji

Spiritual Experiences - July 31, 1997

Consciousness has an ethereal body which is difficult to

distinguish between Consciousness and the body. What is
Consciousness without a body? Let me know if one can define
it. Consciousness of what? Consciousness of something is
Consciousness.

We are talking of the body. Being conscious of is body

consciousness. There is a mental body that we always have
around Consciousness. When the person has left the body the
ethereal body behind accompanies the soul for a file. Ethereal
body remains even if the soul has left the later for another
incarnation. Jivatma takes another birth; the ethereal body
remains as Consciousness, good and bad both.

If Krishna appears to you when you pray, it is his ethereal body

or ‘Mantra Sareera’. Krishna’s soul itself is not there in it. It has
left. But this has been charged enlivened reality. It cannot be
handled or touched physically. Soul, body, consciousness,
ethereal body – they are distinct stages. Ethereal body is
consciousness in ordinary language and for an ordinary person,
but in case of an Avatar, it is a permanent consciousness even
after the body is gone. That is where they are still alive. When
Bhagavan Ramana said, “where will I go I am here only”. It
means that “I” is ego. The soul does not remain. The soul has
left it. The kind of Tapas he performs changes the ethereal
body into a kind of permanence. It infuses permanence into the
consciousness.

157
Question: When it is said that total has come of total leaving
behind total, does it mean that what has come is nothing?

Creation is there with the Lokas and other things. Creation is

not a total myth. Accepting creation that is seen and
experienced by all consciousness, mind, body, senses, creation
has come not out of nothing but One and that One is Brahman.
It has not come out of nothing but One thing, before the birth of
this creation. Therefore God who is the creator has created
Himself and the creation simultaneously. For this reason, He is
‘Primordial Consciousness’. He remembers both, the time
before creation and the time after the creation.

Yo Vedaadaua Prakto Yo Vedaanthecha Pratishithah

At the beginning of the Vedas it was known as Swaram, at eh

end of the Vedas it is Vedanta. He still very much that. Vedanta
means when the entire creation is withdrawn in to what? Along
with the creation they all simply disappeared into Brahman.
Even god has withdrawn Himself and disappeared into
Brahman, without even a memory of it, or without there being
an ego, without any traces of gone creation. It exists for the
sake of rebirth in future. Future of what? That future is present
in Brahman. They are very much present, not seen by any one
for two reasons.

There is no seer therefore and cannot be seen. The world does

not exist to you when you are asleep. The world existing to you
is the present. So the existence and non-existence of the world
is totally personal! That is why they say that it is ‘Nothing’.
When you are asleep children you are able to see you sleeping

158
and the world also. And see you not seeing the world. so there
is a ‘Drashta’, the ‘Seer’

In this sense, a yogi is able to go to sleep in his world

consciousness and become wakeful in the truth consciousness
of the world itself. he is able to see the world in time with his
world consciousness through yoga, having withdrawn the body
consciousness and the world consciousness. Through yoga he
is able to see the creation from outside while not experiencing
it. The thing is, if he goes into Samadhi, the world does not exist
to him, but the strangest truth is that he exists. He exists
without the world existing. So, this is known as the fourth state.
It is neither wakeful state, nor Sleep state. This fourth stage is
Samadhi. In this state he is able to exist without the world. we
are not able to exist without the world. being wakeful and not
to see the world is impossible for us. Yogi is wakeful and does
not see the world. This is ‘Tureeya Avastha’.

What is Vunmanyavastha? It is transcending the mind. It is

transcending the mental state and yet keeping the mind intact.
In other words it is ‘Sabeeja Samadhi’. He has not lost his
consciousness. He is aware of the Self. What is that Awareness
of Self? He might exist. Where the mind exists? His mind
exists. We have a mind, which cannot exist without the world.
Yogi’s mind can exist without this world!

Can these experiences be understood? Experience is Sadhana,

Tapas. All these are achievable. Is the sky also not experienced
then? Sky is only space. Space is not Brahman. Sky is in
Brahman. Experiences in the wakeful state are on the border
line separating the worldly mind and the world. Guru can give

159
the Samadhi itself. That is the world-less mind. The difficulty
arises in bringing you back. Somebody shot you by a catapult
into space and you cannot trace back!

In meditation mind always wants all nonsense. Provide

maximum amount of nonsense to the mind. Mind wants to
wander. If allowed, it goes around , gets exhausted and comes
back. Mind is like a tied cow. Nobody wants to take it. So, it
comes back to its original owner in to its shed. Mind does not
think nor would it keep well at anything or everything except its
own body. mind has its own equipment in your own body only.
If that body comes it goes round and round with its ethereal
body, ultimately it comes back tired of everything that there is
nothing stranger that what it is already having in the body. then
it comes to take rest in your body like a boomerang.

The mind: Do not talk, do not make any noise, then go to

meditation. Mind never discusses, but if you start to go a
begging the mind takes over you! Mind is untamed in-
disciplined animal. Neglecting is called taming it. Neglect its
presence. Its presence is nothing more than functional
presence. So, non-functional mind when it is lying at your feet
dormant, it means it does not exist, the other way of calling it.
It sleeps. Its master is not disturbed so as it also or notice its
presence. --Guruji

160
States of Samadhi

What is common between sleep and Samadhi is loss of body

consciousness. Even in sleep, body consciousness is suspended.
In every meditational sitting also it is suspended, while in
Samadhi it is ultimately destroyed, forever. This is why a yogi is
supposed to have no dreams at all, for there should be no
change in his state once the body Consciousness is over forever.
The body consciousness is the power of the nature that binds
the soul to the body and makes the soul own the body and get
absorbed in it. So the basic effort of anyone is to pull oneself
out of this body Consciousness. You can, out of the body,
universalize your Consciousness and occupy the body again.
The body Consciousness is nothing but body particular
Consciousness. There is nothing else in it.

The body Consciousness is the power of creation to enable you

to experience the external world through the ego! It is that
which is responsible for your running away from fire, feeling the
heat and cold and so on. It keeps you alert. Suppose you are in
Samadhi and there is a fire, your body is quite likely to be
destroyed in it. In this sense, therefore, the body Consciousness
is a protection against dangers provided by nature.

Basically Samadhi is of two types though there are seven kinds.

Essentially it is nothing but transformation of your
Consciousness from the body awareness into something else.
The two kinds of Samadhi’s are known as Sabija and Nirbija
Samadhi.

In Sabija the Consciousness is given something to sit on, like
Japam or our normal meditational technique. It is transforming
the body Consciousness into God Consciousness. That means
Consciousness is compulsory. So the self is removed and God is
installed. Without our body being Conscious, we have got to be
Conscious of something. But as soon as the meditation is over
we come back to the body. Nirbija Samadhi is seedless
Consciousness. Nothing is being Conscious of in that state.
There is no protection for the body in both the states. So, if the
body Consciousness has a substitute, it is Sabija Samadhi. If it
has no substitute it is Nirbija Samadhi that is pure body-less
Consciousness.

As we have seen in both cases man is not protecting himself

from the dangers to the body. That is why Nature has arranged
things in such a way that man returns to the body!
Consciousness from Samadhi does not take time but is
instantaneous, when he is returning from his meditational
oneness to body Consciousness, if there is a fire or something
he can immediately run away from the place and protect
himself. This is why our ancient Rishis who did Tapas for
unlimited time, used some other means, a second force to
protect their bodies. Vahni Prkaram is an example. It is a
Mantra and a Yogic approach wherein one sits at the center of a
compound of fire to thwart dangers.

The Pantheon of Gods, the various methods given to reach God

in India are wide and various. There is no religion or anything
here. There are a thousand paths. This is a huge phenomenon.
If you have to describe religion as one of one prophet, the book
and one God, then, there are one thousand religions in India.

162
Ramakrishna’s specialty was that from being a devotee of Kali,
he became a Yogi, though Yoga was not his path, to start with.
Intense devotion made him a Yogi. He was not initiated in Yoga
at all. That is why, I say that, intense devotion can make anyone
experience that kind of Samadhi. It results in Sabija Samadhi
and transforms itself into Nirbija Samadhi. Around the seed
there is a fruit, there is Sabeeja Samadhi. There is no seed, no
core of it that is Nirbeeja Samadhi. There is no getting stuck to
any form. There is no cognizance. There is nothing in it. It is a
kind of an experience of that ‘Nothing’. That experience
remains as a memory even when you come out of Samadhi.
The memory of that great experience makes them separated
from material world.

The material world has a grip over everyone except those who
have Vairagya. It must become a part of human nature.
Vairagya as a mood does not help much. A person who is all the
time least Conscious of the world around him and whose
maximum attention of Consciousness is on the other side of the
world is a Saint. Even a Jnani need not be a saint.

In the midst of modern materialism Ramakrishna’s devotion

was an exceptional case. To rise to such a level that he did not
think of anything else except Mother Kali. The Bhakti was so
intense that he was beyond his body conscious to Samadhi. He
senses. In devotion his Kundalini raised. He is supposed to have
gone into Samadhi through bhakti itself. However, he was very
keen to go beyond the form of deity to Samadhi in Nirguna
state, the unqualified state. So Kali has to disappear from his
consciousness so that he could go into Brahma-anubhuti. It is
said that the form of Kali he worshipped vertically broke into

163
two. After that there was nothing, no form, no Consciousness
of any form. He went into deep Samadhi. He was sitting like a
rock, while it was pouring heavily. -Guruji

States of Consciousness of Devotee

A normal man observes the observers and his conduct is in

accordance with that. A man in stupor, or a somnambulist, or a
mad man does not observe that they are being observed.

There is a thin line that separates normal men from a devotee.

The devotee is intoxicated by the form and thought of his deity
that nothing else is there in him. There is famous quatrain in in
Lela Suka’s Sri Krishna Karnaamrutam. The Gopis were selling
curds and milk. But inebriated as they were with the presence
of the Lord, instead of shouting curds and milk, they were
shouting Govinda and Maadhava. People were used to it. So
they would call them and buy the curds and milk.

In the case of a devotee the mind is thoroughly replaced by the

presence of the Lord. It is like this. Normally you are able to
see an object because the mind becomes the object. The eye by
itself cannot see nor does the “I”. But if the “I” and Eye are in
line, the mind assumes the shape of the object. This is how
anything is perceived. That is why the mind is full of objects, all
of them fleeting.

Asking for yourself whether you dwell at length on any thought,

you will realize that the mind hops from one thought to another
at an amazing speed and becomes one object after another in
the process. Since the devotee thinks always of the lord, his
mind takes the form of him and thus, his attention to the world
is totally disconnected. This is close to the states of Thurya or
Samadhi. Thurya is beyond the state of wakefulness, sleep and
dream. There are different kinds of Samadhi. In the case of

165
Jnani, he is beside himself, literally and figuratively. That is he
remains as the self-inside but he interacts with the world very
normally. It means that he is in Samadhi and interacts with the
world simultaneously. --Guruji

Visualizing Soul’s Reflection in Dhyana

April 11, 1998

When a person does a so called Dhyana on Siva or Ganapathi or

on a Mantra even for a few minutes the object of attention in
that process is his Soul.

Siva or Ganapathi is the permanent truth or the eternal truth.

That truth reveals to you your past. It will enable you to take a
decision about your future. In Dhyana, your mind and intellect
are blocked totally. Hence neither the mind nor the intellect is
the seer. They do not see anything. The soul looks at itself! the
soul is allowed to look at itself due to the suspension of the
mind. The Dhyana may be inefficient but still the benefit is
gained by the subconscious that is surrounding the soul. It
gains that benefit. You do not know it. All that you do is not to
disturb it. When the soul is reflecting in your Consciousness, it
sees its own image in the Consciousness, when it is free from
the body.

The attention of the soul is drawn to its own image in the ether
of the Consciousness. This consciousness is the Consciousness
of the world. All that is ephemeral. It is looking at itself. when
this is diverted to some other point, the soul is capable of
looking not at its image at itself. It happens automatically. You
are not the doer. The greatest help that you can do is to
withdraw from it. You are not capable of doing anything to it
except Dhyana. In all Dhyana, which is known as Tapas, the
actual process that is taking place is that the Consciousness is
separating or segregating itself from the material nature of the

167
mind. Thinking of something like the name of God, or Om, the
Consciousness is purified. The present materialistic
surroundings is filtered and thrown out. For a moment
Consciousness is purified. That moment the soul takes
advantage. The soul is capable of looking at itself as there is no
reflection of it in the Pure Consciousness.

The impure Consciousness that is contaminated by the material

world, of all destructible things is surrounding the soul,
compelling the soul to look at it. Then it need to be withdrawn
or annihilated. The soul is surrounded by the present
circumstances and tendencies because of which it is losing the
benefit of looking at itself which it is capable of. This is because
of the disturbed surrounding Consciousness. It is like noise
stopping you to listen to music even when it is there. Music
alone cannot go into ears! Noise is killing the ears.

There is the usual Vedic axiom that says, “Atmavah drustavyaha,

srothavya, manthya, nidhi dhyasitya” meaning that Atman
(Soul) can be seen, heard, meditated and contemplated. The
question is by whom. It is by itself, by looking at itself in the
subconscious. Otherwise this Vedic axiom has no meaning. If
the axiom were to tell that your mind should apply itself to the
soul and think of the soul, mind cannot visualize it. Mind can
think of the soul like it does an elephant or such other things. If
the mind has to be reminded about soul how can it be done?
How is the mind capable of meditating on the soul by firmly
holding to it. This is not possible for a common or ordinary
mind.

168
In Dhyana Yoga, the intellect and even half of consciousness are
diverted which is other than you, something that is not anything
yours. Then, the sub-conscious becomes transparently pure,
bright, as it is cleansed of the world. So the soul sees itself.
Anything other than you, person or things belonging to your
person is capable of cleansing, your subconscious of the
material world in it. Then only the soul sees its own reflection
in that. Otherwise, it is able to see itself involved in matter or
material which is filling the medium of the subconscious. If the
subconscious which is the platform for the image is pure, then
the doer is the soul itself. otherwise it amounts to saying that
the mind or intellect is capable of seeing or listening to it.

Coming to the aspect of “Time”, the time we have had in

previous incarnations is full of memories and tendencies of the
past lives. They have gone to the subconscious. The conscience
is only the Conscious of the present. The sub-conscious is a
repository of the past! By the presence of the soul, it gets
purified. The Consciousness is working on present only. When
the past is wiped out there is neither present nor the future.
When the subconscious is filled with the soul it does not
accommodate anything, neither the past nor the present. Every
minutest particle in the subconscious is diverted towards the
soul. That is how Karma is destroyed! - -Guruji

States of A Yogi, Jnani & Maha Yogi

April11, 1998

Consciousness is the outer layer and the sub-conscious is the

lower one. In fact there are thresholds. The innermost
threshold is the subconscious outer threshold is the mind.

One Upanishad says the eyes are seeing but they are incapable
of describing. The ears are hearing but they do not know how
to describe what they hear. There is intelligence inside the man
who describes what the eyes see and what the ears hear. So,
the experience is one thing and noting down the experience is
another thing!

There is an integrated awareness behind all this that the whole

person is not the eyes, the ears or the body. At the same time,
because he is the seer of all these things, is the experiencer of
all that the senses are recording. He is not the soul also. He is
neither Atman nor the body. In between there is Ego which is
the pervasive intelligence which makes the eye, the ear, the
skin, and the body work; but it is not any of these. Beside the
pure soul which is ‘Nothing’, which is not part of the nature nor
the body that work; this integrated individuality which is the
man, is mounting itself on the soul along with the soul is
supposed to stop this travel and the moment he looks at the
soul instead of the outer world, he vanishes.

One is capable of performing this vanishing trick only when he

had looked at the soul, but he is enjoying the body, of looking at
the outer world rather than looking at the truth, at the same
time depending on the soul to travel and transmigrate. This

170
intermediate man has to divert his attention to something so
that the rider is off the back of the soul.

The soul is light to look at itself. In the sub-conscious, the soul is

capable of looking at its own light. Looking does not mean and
egoistic awareness but simply reflection of the soul in
subconscious. The experience is received by the subconscious.
The should does not experience anything. That is another
experience the subconscious is recording and enjoying, that is
known as ‘Brahmananda’, that is of the subconscious. This
experience is of Chittam (Consciousness ) and the Ego.

There must be an experiencer of Bramhanda. Soul does not

experience it. The body cannot experience it. The soul is
reflecting because of its own purity, in sub-conscious. There are
two stages of purity and impurity to the soul. The reflecting
medium is pure or impure. Because of this change of
circumstances from impurity to purity, it is capable of reflecting
the soul in it and enjoying the vision. The sub-conscious is the
platform of enjoyment. Such a person is called Brahma Jnani.

The Soul of Brahma Jnani is no different than from the ignorant

soul. This we call it sub-conscious, the Ahamkara Chittam in
which the pure Ananda (bliss) is dwelling, filling it that is
Brahmanda. Then he has a consciousness and not in the sub-
conscious. That is why He is able to live normally with anything.
The Consciousness is working and the body is also working!

In such a person the body mind complex and the sub-conscious

do not interact or intermix. One is the witness to this ignorant
world which is Consciousness is going through. This is the pure

171
ego, the Swastha Atma. Swasta means living in itself! r is aware
of the world through the intellect.

When sub-conscious is reflecting Atman, it is also filled with the

Atman. The Conscience, the outer layer is aware of the world
through the intellect, mind, and senses. So the Jnani does not
have any different personality from the rest of the people
where living is concerned. He has sickness, hunger and sleep.
But this is totally segregated from the innermost threshold of
the sub-conscious I am taking the advantage of these words in
English sub-conscious, Conscience, Consciousness. The words
are there because, the subject of the words are there).

If he is a man, he refers to himself in proper gender and does

not confuse himself as to whether he is a man or woman just
because he is a Jnani. The Consciousness works normally in
tandem with the body and its experience of the outer world.
Sub-Conscious is always pure because it is turned inward!
Consciousness is turned outward.

The subconscious of Sri Krishna, the Yogeswara is Vishnu the

Lord of Eswara. Man in Krishna was interacting with the world.
his talking, preaching, killing, did not bind the soul again. Going
back to the world ‘Witness’, the man’s action and his existence
on Earth is witnessed by the soul reflecting in the sub-conscious.
In Krishna’s case it is only a mute witness. It is not participating.
Therefore it is not bound. Consciousness, senses and the body
are given away to the world as a gift. His sub-conscious and the
soul are in a different field, different threshold, not involved in
themselves, like the King who sits in palace and the
administration going on. Every bit of administration takes place

172
in His name, but the king himself is not even aware of it. He
does not touch anything but the entire country is governed in
his name. So he is sitting majestically inside, totally insulated
from his government.

This is not to be equated to Sahaja Samadhi, which is an

ordinary thing. It is looking at everything but not reading to
anything with sorrow or happiness. What is now explained is
the ultimate or the greatest stage of Yogeswara or a Maha Yogi.
A Maha Yogi cannot be called as an ordinary Jnani.
Renunciation, Jnana, and sacrifice are qualities which are
capable of insulating a man from his experience as a man. But
this is not a simple thing. A Maha Yogi is inside, inward all the
time. The man is not different from another man except that
his values, his behavior may look different because they are
pure. He does not suffer from ignorance. He lives a normal
human life like anybody else. Even Krishna had to leave this
world and body in this world. the Mahavaishnava theory
describes that a great Light which went up is sub-conscious
which was all light, or Aura and yonder there. The Aura
disappeared. The Atman had assumed visibility because of this
surrounding Aura, not by itself.

A MahaYogi’s sub-conscious being pure has the Consciousness

(Chittam) as His servant. He can deliberately want to come back
but in the same state with a different body and in different
circumstances. He is not coming helplessly and His coming is
deliberate. That difference is there.

Krishna did not carry any karma with Him for all the karma, he
had indulged in for 125 years. He has not carried Vasasanas

173
with Him nor the seed of any future birth! For convenience you
can equate this sub-conscious with Ahamkara, Sarvatma
Ahamkara, Paramatma or Divyatma Ahamkara. You can call it
anything. But it is not man’s Ahamkara.

A Yogi as a man is not different looking! He is the target of

praise and hatred to the ordinary mortals. The outer man is
talking, eating, living, unable to please all, does not displease all.
The common world reacts to this. In Krishna’s life He was the
target of adoration, admiration and hatred in equal
proportions!

An Understanding of the Link between

Aham & Chittam

(Translated from Telugu Text by Shanti Kolla)

Aham is connected to the world only through Chittam. To enjoy

the world, Aham came with Chittam. It is the Chittam that is
experiencing the pains and pleasures. Regardless of the type
experience, Aham is interested letting Chittam experience the
same. Being a movie is a good example for this. You may see a
scene and feel the pain and experience the sadness. This
sadness is the negativities created in Chittam. That means,
forgetting that you are seeing a movie, it gets mixed with the
action scene and feels the image of the events. The intellect
warns that it is only a movie and for that reason, Chittam
remains calm. When once the individual comes out of a movie
theater he praises that the movie was good. He admits that he
had enjoyed the movie. Even though the scenes were fearful,
liking and disliking are not involved. That means, it is only the
experience of Chittam that the Aham is interested in.
Regardless whether it is fearful or happy ending, without
enjoying the created movie, even though it knows that it sorrow
may be experienced, it continues to go to the movies!

In wakeful state, with the help of the body and senses, Chittam
gets connected with the outer world, experiencing the feelings
thus experienced it reports the same to Aham. During sleep, it
stops reporting and for that reason one is forget of his body
during sleep state. The dependence of Chittam with body and
senses the dream state he is able to remember. A Yogi disowns

175
Chittam and the resulting relationships with physical body. for
this reason even during Samadhi state, he never experiences
the pains and pleasures. He remains in the Natural state of
Aham and the resulting experience of pure joy. Such a yogi,
when he returns from Samadhi, he continues to perform
physical activities and its needs as an ordinary mortal.

In Yogic state, Chittam stays connected with Aham it pervades

the entire world. He continues to do normal activities like any
other mortal. However, his experiences relating to Chittam will
not reach Aham and always remain in Samadhi state. He is
unconcerned with his any involvement with senses, external
world and always stays in His natural state without the rapport
to Chittam.

For ordinary mortals, before death all the actions performed

during his life time are remembered (In Chittam) Atma leaves
the body along with recollection of those tendencies. So in man
there is what is known as Aham which is unconnected and
unconcerned with the experiences and actions of Chittam that
is connected with the world, both are existing. The one that
energies and moves Chittam is “Chichakti”

The creative Principle is in every atom of man. The seed is from

Brahman. Forgetfulness of this truth makes one as Nirguna
Brahma. Constant awareness of the same truth is brought to
the surface because of the seed principle that is inherent and
the experience of Aham (Pure I). That Aham is nothing other
Than Parama Siva, the I (Nenu) and what is born with in as Mine
(Naadi) is Parameswari. With the presence of Nenu and Naadi,
the whole of creation expanded. This way ParamaSiva entered

176
into every part and aspect of creation. The I principle is part of
ParamaSiva, His base and Inner Inner-Principle. It is His grace
that is known a Chichakti. It belongs to me as “Nenu” is the
creative principle of Parameswari. It is through Parameswari
that the merging into ParamaSiva is possible!

Every living being carries with it a replica of ‘Parama Siva’ as

Chichakti internal force proving the Consciousness (Chittam) to
function and experience; it is also the same Consciousness that
consider itself as body, forgetting its true identity as Chichakti.
Therefore, man’s physical body contain three things, namely

1. Body Consciousness

2. By way experiencing body Consciousness, experiencing

the enjoyments of created world

3. Witnessing (as Aham) Consciousness (Chittam) and its

joyful experiences of the created world

A mind that is not involved with the enjoyment of the outer

world becomes eligible for Moksha. The energy and the life
force behind the Consciousness is what enable one to see the
universe and its creation. Mind cannot visualize subtle nature
of creation. Mind is able to see the world visual perception
(eyes) and the feeling with its sense of touch. But, because
Consciousness (Chittam) is subtler than mind and body, it has
the capacity feel and experience the subtle nature of the
universe in a one moment. Such a Chittam with the ability to
experience the subtle nature of the universe is also exposed to
the created world. The mind and intellect are inherent within
Consciousness (Chittam). An understanding in living in that

177
Consciousness is what makes one se the Oneness of Creation.
The “I (Ahamkara) is source for Chittam.

The merging principle means, ignoring the senses, a mind that is

merged with the intellect and Consciousness is able to
experience the subtle nature of the Universe. This would mean
that a man will see his “Oneness” with all created beings and
created things of the Universe.

The truth behind the pleasures and sorrows, the ignorance

behind the feeling of duality will emerge (Chittam). The
subtleness nature of the world is already inherent in man. Such
a Chittam when it is not dependent on a mind and body
consciousness has no other place to merge other than
Ahamkara (I). This is a new approach! -Guruji

178
Conscience

I have clarified certain things. Suppose in professional work one

says, “I have done this, it is not to my moral standards in which I
believe. I believe in certain morals. I have set standards myself.
I was transgressing the moral standards set by myself to myself,
the other day to gain something.” So it hugs him. The man is
worried about it because he is on path of spirituality according
to him. So such questions are there.

Conscience is something that watches your actions

Conscience is always loaded with moral values

Conscience does not tell you a lie

Conscience is not interested in your natural welfare and it is

interested in you. That is called Conscience.

It tells you only plain Truth, naked Truth without

embellishment, without dressing it up in anything

Conscience has no language. It has a message straight to heart,

to the soul

But for this Conscience which is the voice of God, we would not
be safe in this world. We would have committed anything. We
could have gone astray, but for this internal watchman, vigil, the
watchdog.

The Conscience howls the moment you cross the line. It is

capable of biting you also. Since it is your own, it does not bite

179
you but threatens to bite you. Then the man is worried about
what to do?

When this question was put to me I had to answer the question.

Basically the answer must be logical and convincing. Secondly,
it must be based on accepted truth about karma, about the
ancient science that has been finalized in respect of Jeeva, Deva
and Karma.

The world and the creation, all these things have been finally
analyzed, defined and given to us. It must fit into that because
that the Truth!
