PHYSICS QUESTION SHEET

Q1)A radioactive sample contains two different isotopes, A and

B. A has a half-life of 3 days, and B has a half-life of 6 days.
Initially in the sample there are twice as many atoms of A as of
B. At what time will the ratio of the number of atoms of A to B
be reversed?
ANS) = 12DAYS

Q2) You want to make a snowman out of modelling clay. The

snowman consists of two spheres, where one sphere has a radius
r, and the other has a radius 2r. The modelling clay comes in the
form of a cylinder with radius r/2. What length of modelling
clay is required to make the snowman?
ANS) 48TIMES THE RADIUS

Q3) A piranha-infested river runs from west to east, as depicted

in Figure 2.4. Sarah Connor is living off the grid 3 km north of
the river and does not have access to fresh water. Following a
recent impaling, she is unable to walk. Her survival is vital for
the future of humanity. Each day Kyle Rees, who lives 2 km
north of the river and 12 km west of Sarah Connor, must travel
from his hideout with a bucket, which he fills with water from
the river. He must save as much energy as possible for the fight
against the
machines. What is the minimum distance he needs to travel to
get to Sarah’s house via the river?
ANS) 13KM

Q4) There is a bar on a rough horizontal table

mass M = 500 g with a light inextensible thread attached to it,
thrown over a weightless immovable block,
moreover, the segment of the thread from the bar to the block is horizontal.
A light spring is attached to the second end of the thread.
rigidity k = 10 N/m with load suspended on it
mass m = 100 g. In the initial state, the load is kept in this
position that the thread is slightly taut and the spring is not deformed,
moreover, the right end of the thread and the spring occupy a vertical
position. At some point, the load is released from rest.
After a time
tau = π/30 s ≈ 0.105 s after that, the bar moves from its place.

Find the coefficient of friction µ between the bar and the table. Ans = 0.1
Q5) In the circuit shown in the figure, the resistance of all connecting
wires and key contacts are negligible. All three resistors are the same.
While both the keys were open, ammeter showed the current in circuit
equal to 1 A. When one of the keys closed, current increased to 2 A.
What the current will be if close the second key? Consider that wires and
devices will not come out of building.

ANS)3A

Q6) Three point charges of the same sign can freely slide around a circle.
Two charges are at the same distance from the third. At what charge values is
equilibrium possible?

ANS )QC=QA
Q7 Body mass m = 5 g suspended by thin, weightless threads of
length L = 1 m each to two helium-filled balloons that carry the
same electric charges. The system, hovering in the air, is in
equilibrium. Distancel l between the centers of the balls is 40 cm
and much more than their radii. Find the charges on the balls.

Q8) On a smooth horizontal table lies a weightless rigid rod 2l long, on

which two heavy beads are placed, located symmetrically relative to the
center of the rod at a distance from each other. First, the beads are
rigidly fixed on the rod in these positions and the rod is untwisted to the
angular velocityω around a vertical axis passing through its center. At
some point in time, the beads are released so that they can slide along
the rod without friction. Limiters are installed at the ends of the rod, the
collisions of the beads with which are absolutely elastic. Determine the
time t for which the beads will return to their original position.
ANS)2ROOT3/ω
