Cue Card Topics for IELTS Speaking

The cue card samples provided here are organised into many categories. These are the most recent
cue card themes with answers that have appeared in actual examinations. This is done so that you can
explore the collection and select a spoken cue card of your choice.

FAVOURITE → These are the cue cards that asks you about things you like.
1. Describe your favourite photograph or piece of photography.
Example: You describe a picture or photograph in your family. You should say:
✓ What is in the photo.
✓ Where this photo is in your home.
✓ How this picture was taken.

Answer 1:
One of my favourite images is one taken when I was only 4-5 years old with my parents, grandfather,
and grandma.
I don't remember the event at which the shot was taken, but I've seen it dozens of times and it still
makes me happy and sad. The shot is black-and-white, which I later enlarged and framed in my living
room. The photo holds special meaning for me because of my grandparents and parents.
I stare at the picture in awe and can't believe I was so small and different at the time. The image makes
me sad because my grandfather and mother are no longer with us. They look so vibrant in the image,
but I can't be with them anymore! This is definitely my favourite shot since it connects me to my
grandparents and reminds me of how happy we were as a family. Every time I look at this photo, I get
a different feeling - a mix of happiness and despair. This is a valuable property to me, and I intend to
cherish it for the rest of my life.

Answer 2:
I have taken thousands of photographs because I am interested in photography. The most meaningful
photograph to me, though, is the large family portrait that hangs on the wall of my living room and is
the first thing that everyone observes when they walk into my home.
The photo was taken on a summer vacation a year ago. It was the first time my family had spent the
summer together. We decided to take a trip to Bali, which is one of the most popular summer vacation
locations in my country.
The photograph was most likely the first of my entire family - my parents, older brother, younger sister,
and me. It's a fantastic shot, with everyone standing on the beach and smiling. The crystal pure water
sparkles in the sunlight, while the coastline can be seen in the distance. It was a burning hot day, and
the sky was azure with no clouds, making it an ideal setting for a photograph.
