I dedicate this report to Almighty Allah who guided and protected me throughout this period of my
training and made this whole exercise a huge success and my parents, brother, sisters and friends for
their love, advise, encouragement, financial and academic support.

I would also like to dedicate it to Bello dandago Radio Kano and my school ( Kano state polytechnic)
more especially department of education technical, for bringing out the best in me and my colleague
who contributed in numerous ways to make my siwes training fun and successful one.
 ABSTRACT

This report present experience acquired during my 4 months siwes training at Bello dandago Radio
Kano.

The knowledge and skills acquired is the practical experience of the theoritical knowledge gained in the
classroom.

Thanks be to Almighty Allah for his blessings , guidance, protection, the courage and opportunity given
to me to the successful completion of my siwes program , may his protection and blessings continue to
be with us ( amin) .

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon to our beloved prophet Muhammad ( s a w) , his family,
companions and all those who follow the right path till the day of judgement ( Amin ).
 ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

My appreciation and greatful goes to the industrial training fund for their foresight in putting this
program in place and Bello dandago Radio Kano for providing me with an opportunity to be exposed to
such world class IT service in the organization, for the professionalism, trust and support offered to me
during my stay.

I want say a big thank you my industry base supervisor ENGR BADAMASI MAIWADA and every personal
of the entire Bello dandago Radio Kano for welcoming me and helped contribute to my learning and
grooming in IT sector.
 CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

The student industrial work experience scheme (siwes) is a program design to expose students in
tertiary institution to practical work experiences related to their field of study.

Industrial training is a program which forms part of the academic standards in various programs for
nNigerian tertiary institution, it seek to bridge the gap existing between technology and other
professional education programs in Nigerian tertiary institution.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVE OF SIWES

1- To provide an evenue for student on tertiary institution to acquire industrial skill and experience in
their course of study.

2- To prepare student for work situation they are likely to meet after graduation.

3- To expose student to work methods and techniques in handling equipment and machinery that may
not be available in the institution.

4- Provide student an opportunity to apply their bridging the Gap between higher education and actual
practice.
5-Make transition from the institution to the world work easier and thus enhance students contact for
later job placement after graduation.

6- Enlist and strengthen employer's involvement in the entire edu process of preparing institution
graduates for employment in the industry

PURPOSE OF SIWES

The objective of student industrial work experience scheme is to enable every student who passed
through institution to acquire practical knowledge of what he/ she has learned. Therefore it is
compulsory for every student to satisfy the requirement in his/ her academic persuit

BRIEF HISTORY OF RADIO KANO

Radio Kano's history is dated back to 1946, as the station originally branch of the Radio distribution
service ( RDS) established by the then British colonialist .

The first officer in - charge of the Radio distribution service in Kano 1946 was the late Alhaji Bello
Dandago ( sarkin dawaki maituta) when the station assumed the name of provincial broadcasting house
some years later, it also had various veterans broadcasters as officer in- charge at different time.

Following the 1978 handing over, the defunct NBC station in Kano became known as Kano state Radio
corporation ( Radio Kano) . Radio Kano now has second channel known as Kano 2 FM sterio which was
established in 1986. The establishment of FM is mainly for musical entertainment and revenue
generation. At the moment radio Kano has 6 department each headed by either director or deputy
director.

Radio Kano is headquarters at No1 Ibrahim taiwo road,Kano which is popularly known as gidan Bello
Dandago.

The head office house the studios,link the FM transmitter. The station also has other AM transmitting
station at jogana.

The moment Radio Kano transmit on the following

Jogana TX 729khz - 421 meters

FM. 89.3mhz & 96.89

OB link. 366.72hz

The department of radio Kano are as follows

1- Admin and general service

2- Program FM

3- Program AM
4- Engineering

5- News and current affairs

6- commercial service

CHAPTER TWO

EXPERIENCE ACQUIRED DURING EXCERCISE

During me four months siwes I was able to acquire much about radio station.

- RADIO STUDIO:

I were able to identify the uses of equipment in the radio studio and how it's functions

Radio studio refers to a room or set of rooms specially equipped for broadcasting and recording radio
program.

Types of studio

* Continuity: it's the place for live and recorded broadcast professionally and systematically

* Recording: is the type of studio used for radio program production

- audio signal processor

- microphone

- audio distribution amplifier

- microphone stand

- cellphone

- MICROPHONE

I experienced what microphone is all about, it's part and how it work and various types of
microphone,and problems regarded to it

Microphone is a device that turns sound energy into an electrical energy.

Working principle of microphone

1- When you speak , sound wave created by your voice carry energy toward the microphone

2- Inside the microphone, the diaphragm moves back and forth when the sound waves hit it

3- The coil, attached to the diaphragm, moves back and forth as well

4- The permanent magnet produces a magnetic field that cuts through the coil. As the coil moves back
and forth through the magnetic field, an electric current flows through it

5- The electric current flows out from the microphone through an audio cable to sound control unit then
to various equipment

Types of microphone

Microphone is classified into 2

1- base on sensitive

* Dynamic

* Condense

* Ribbon

2- base on direction

* Unidirectional
 * Bidirectional

* Omnidirectional

COMPUTER:

I learned what is compuer , the uses of it in radio station and I were able to use the softwares
practically

Computer can store and retrieve information using hard drive, it can be connected together to form a
network allowing connected computers to communicate with one another.

Uses of computer

- broadcasting - streaming - recording - editing - sharing - storing

The major softwares used for radio broadcasting

• JAZLER software for AM

• MYRAID Play out software for FM

• ADOBE AUDITION software for recording and edit

- CONSOLE:

I experienced the functions of console and how to operate it and the area of application

Console is a electronic device for combining, routing and changing the level, timbre or and dynamic of
an audio signals

Area of application

- broadcasting - recording studio - public addressing system - sound reinforcement - television - film
post production

- AUDIO SIGNAL PROCESSOR:

I were able to identify about the device audio signal processor and it's function in broadcasting and
the application

Audio signal processor are typically employed within or just after mixer stage, but before amplification.

The primary goals of audio signal processor are:

 • Audibility : the Audibility of speech or music at the furthest must be sufficient to achieve the
desired effect usually a comfortable listening level for speech and more powerful level for certain kind of
music

• Interligibility : it's determine by the signal to noise ratio and direct to reverberant ratio at the
listener's ear

• Fidelity : the Fidelity of sound is primarily defined by the overall frequency response of the sound
arriving at the listener's ear

Types of audio signal processor

* Volume ( gain ) control

* Filter and equalization

*. Dynamics processor

*. Adaptive processor

- AMPLIFIER:

I observed the functions of the device amplifier

Is an electronic device which is used to increase the magnitude of the signal applied to it's input.

- AUDIO DISTRIBUTION AMPLIFIER:

I identified the device audio distribution amplifier and application in broadcasting

Is designed to produce the same audio siglnal to multiple output.

I was introduced to the server until, where I learned the server itself the type of server used in
radio Kano and we were visit library in order to different between server and conventional library

- RADIO SERVER UNIT : is a unit under engineering department that manages various server activities
like storage/file sharing, outside broadcasting, running online radio, website, radio garden, tune in,
YouTube, and other online application.

- SERVER

Is a computer that provide access to information/resources to other devices within the network.

Types of server

-WEB SERVER : May run Apache http or microsoft internet information service, which both provide
access to website over the internet.
 - MAIL SERVER : Run a program like exim or imail , which provide simple mail transfer protocol service
for sending and receiving mails.

- FILE SERVER : Might use message server block or other operating system's build in file sharing service
to share files over a network.

While server can run different types of computers, it's important that the hardware is sufficient
enough to support the demand of the server.

- COMPUTER NETWORK

Is a set of computers connected together for the purpose of sharing resources. The most common
resources share today is internet

 CHAPTER THREE

SUMMARY

This four months student industrial work experience scheme in Kano state polytechnic ( sot) expose me
to know in practical knowledge.

It has been observed that a new generation with a now technology has emerged new millennium has
come, digital divide which day no matter certificate and degrees accumulated on the analogue
educational development, the win of digital technology has come with driving force of change.

CONCLUSION

The training experience is very mandatory and important for all students in tertiary institution like
science and technology, engineering and school of environmental studies. It school be courage at any
time in all institution of learning, so every student should take it serious for themselves.

RECOMMENDATION

I recommend that siwes program is continuity in all tertiary institution because it help so many
students in practical aspect and academic performance as well as work experience.

In other to make this siwes training easy, student should look for interested place where gain
practical aspects of what they were tough in the classroom.
