Second Conditional Questions
Second conditional questions are used to ask about hypothetical or
imaginary situations that are unlikely to happen. For example, the
question “If you won the lottery, what would you do?” is talking about a
very unlikely situation (winning the lottery) and is asking you to imagine
what you would do in that situation.

Making second conditional questions is quite easy! There are two parts to
second conditional questions. One part, let’s call it ‘Part A‘, is the
condition, and the other part, let’s call it ‘Part B‘, is the imagined event.
For Part A, the verb is used in the simple past tense, and for part B, the
verb “would” goes together with the main verb. You can make second
conditional questions like this by putting either part A or part B first,
followed by the other part. Let’s take a look at an example:

 If you won the lottery, what would you do?

 What would you do if you won the lottery?
1. If he started early, he would finish in time.

2. If you worked harder, you would do well on the test.

3. If I were you, I would accept that offer.

4. If she knew who he was, she would not love him.

5. If I were you, I would not do it.

6. I would buy a car, if I got my raise.

7. If she flew to Canada, she would visit her sister.

8. If she tried, she would succeed.

9. If you asked her, she would tell you.

10. She would hire you, if she thought you were qualified.
