Bu�ons and controls

 Stadia bu�on
The Stadia bu�on is used to turn the Stadia Controller on and o�. It has a built-in status
light.

To do this... Do this

Turn on the Stadia Controller Press and hold the Stadia bu�on until the controller
vibrates.

To make your controller ready to pair with a Bluetooth device,

press and hold the Stadia bu�on and the bu�on.

Turn o� the controller Press and hold the Stadia bu�on for 4 seconds.

If the controller is plugged into a device with a USB cable,

disconnecting it will turn o� the controller.

Turn o� the controller (hard Press and hold the Stadia bu�on for 8 seconds to turn o�
power down) the controller (hard power down). This can be useful as a reset
procedure if your controller becomes unresponsive.

Status light
Solid orange The controller is charging. The status light will turn o�
when charging is complete.

Blinking The controller is ready to pair to a device over

orange Bluetooth.

Blinking The controller is ready to connect wirelessly to a paired

white device.

Solid white The controller is turned on and connected to a device.

Face bu�ons The face bu�ons are used for di�erent actions, depending on the game you're
playing.

Shoulder The shoulder bu�ons are the bumpers and triggers located on the top of the

Direction pad This 8-directional D-pad is used to pe�orm directional actions (up, down, le�,
right, or diagonal).

Direction The Stadia Controller has two 360° sticks. They're commonly used to move
sticks your character or move the camera view.

Le� stick Either stick can be pressed like a bu�on. These "bu�ons" are called L3 and R3.

Menu This bu�on is o�en used to pause games or access game menus.

Options This bu�on is o�en used to pause games or access game menus.

Assistant This bu�on can no longer be used to talk to the Google Assistant.

Capture This bu�on can no longer be used to capture screenshots or video clips.

3.5mm headphone jack

You can plug headphones into this jack when your Stadia Controller is plugged into a
device with a USB cable. The headphone jack does not work when the controller is
connected wirelessly with Bluetooth.

• If you don't hear audio when your Stadia Controller is plugged into a computer and your
headset is plugged into the audio jack, switch the audio source on your computer to
output directly to your controller.
• If you plug your Stadia Controller into a computer and get low-quality audio through
the headphone jack, plug your headset directly into your computer.

USB-C® po�
• To charge the Stadia Controller's ba�ery, use a USB-C cable to plug it into a power
adapter or a USB po� on a computer.
• For wired play, use a USB-C cable to connect the Stadia Controller to device that has a
USB po�, like a computer or mobile device.
• If a USB-A to USB-C cable is used to connect to a computer, the USB-C side must be
connected to the Stadia Controller. Connecting the USB-A side to the Stadia
Controller via an adapter is not recommended.
• To charge your Stadia Controller during wireless gameplay, turn on the controller,
connect it wirelessly to a device, then plug it into a power adapter or your computer's
USB po�. To charge your controller during wireless gameplay on your computer or
mobile device, plug it into a power adapter.
• Use a USB-C cable to connect the Stadia Controller to another controller in Tandem
Mode.
