Ans: Wonka announced that he had hidden golden tickets in five Wonka chocolate bars,
with the prize of a tour of the factory and a lifetime supply of Wonka products for each
child who finds a ticket.

Ans: Grandpa Joe thought that Willy Wonka was brilliant. Wonka’s announcement
would increase the sale of chocolate bars as people would buy more bars for a Golden
Ticket.

Ans: Charlie was sad because he thought he had no hope of winning a Golden Ticket as he
usually got only one chocolate bar in a year

Ans: Everyone in the family was in a state of disbelief because the chances of winning the golden
ticket had seemed impossible for them on the contrary they also hoped that he might win
the ticket.

Q.7. Why did the shopkeeper think that Charlie needed the chocolate?
Ans: Charlie grabbed the chocolate bar, quickly unwrapped it took an enormous bite of it.
He could not stop himself as he liked the chocolate very much.
Q.8. How did the shopkeeper react when he saw the Golden Ticket?
Ans: The shopkeeper leaped with joy in the air and told everyone to look at the Golden Ticket that
Charlie had found.
Q.9. What were the three things being offered to those who found a Golden Ticket
Ans: The three things were:
i) The winner would be allowed to visit the chocolate factory with Wonka himself as the
guide.
ii) They would have a chance to taste the all chocolates in the factory.
iii) They would get a chance to learn how chocolate is prepared.

Ans: i) Charlie tore the wrapper right down the middle and it fell onto his lap
ii) He shrugged his shoulders and picked up the chocolate, offered his mother to have a
bite of it.
iv) He wanted everyone to taste it but at last, Charlie gobbled it down as quickly as he
could.

Ans: The one thing that Charlie’s family knew was there was a chance that the
chocolate bar in Charlie’s hand contained a Golden Ticket. They knew that any
chocolate bar had an equal chance of carrying a Ticket.

Q.11. Explain how Charlie's parents and grandparents tried not to get his hopes up
as he unwrapped the chocolate bar.

Ans: Grandpa Joe told Charlie just to enjoy his birthday present. His parents told him that
he couldn’t expect to be so lucky as to find a Golden Ticket in that chocolate bar. Though
all the adults wanted to spare Charlie from disappointment, they also knew that there was
a small chance that the ticket would be inside. Grandma Georgina reminded Charlie that
no matter what happened, the chocolate bar was still his. Grandpa Joe encouraged Charlie
to unwrap the chocolate bar and enjoy it.
Q.12. Why did Charlie's heart stand still?
Ans: Charlie's heart stood still because he had found the last Golden Ticket!

Q.13. What did Charlie do with the money he found?


Ans: He looks around to make sure no one is searching for it, but when no one seemed concerned,
he decided to take it to buy food. He spent ten cents and bought two chocolate bars at the
shop, took the rest home to his family.
