Replacement Strategy

Customers looking for IPsec and/or SRTP functionality are encouraged to purchase a network interface unit with
Enhanced Traffic Control engine version 2 (aka. ETC2 NIU). Note that the ETC NIU end of life was announced in
March, and therefore its purchase as a replacement is discouraged. Customers not needing IPsec and/or SRTP
functionality may purchase any of the other NIUs remaining on the price list.

The ETC2 NIU is supported starting with the following releases:

Acme Packet 4500 / CPU2 S-Cz7.1.2M1 Available

* The S-Cx6.4 releases do not support IPsec on the ETC2 NIU. This support is available starting with the S-Cz7.1 release.

In the following situations, the ETC2 NIU is not a suitable replacement for the encryption NIUs with in-line IPsec
and/or SRTP encryption, and therefore an alternate replacement strategy is required:

 Security Gateway
With the EOL of the 3820 and 4500 NIUs with in-line IPsec and/or SRTP encryption, the only remaining
NIU available for the Security Gateway product is the network interface unit with two 10 Gb/sec ethernet
fiber with enhanced traffic control engine and in-line encryption processors. Therefore this dual 10GbE
NIU should be used as the replacement for security gateway solutions.

 SRTP with MIKEY key negotiation

With the EOL of the 3820 and 4500 NIUs with in-line IPsec and/or SRTP encryption, SRTP with MIKEY
negotiation will no longer be available. Customers desiring this feature should be encouraged to use an
alternate key negotiation procedure, such as SDES, in conjunction with the ETC2 NIU.

 IPsec on management interfaces

With the EOL of the 3820 and 4500 NIUs with in-line IPsec and/or SRTP encryption, IPsec on
management interfaces will no longer be available. A replacement strategy for opportunities that require
IPsec on management interfaces will be announced at a future date.

 FIPS 140-2
The FIPS 3820 and 4500 configurations are dependent upon the network interface unit with four 1000
Mb/sec ethernet fiber or copper ports with in-line IPsec and/or SRTP encryption processors. With the EOL
of this NIU, there will be no FIPS-certified 3820 or 4500 configurations available. A replacement strategy
for opportunities that require FIPS 140-2 certified products will be announced at a future date.
