Objective of PSLV-C58 XPoSat mission
It is the 1st dedicated scientific
satellite from the space agency to
carry out research in space-based
polarisation measurements of X-Ray
emission from celestial sources.
The polarimetric observations along with
spectroscopic measurements are
expected to break the degeneracy of
various theoretical models of
astronomical emission processes.

POLIX(Polarimeter Instrument in X-rays) will measure
the degree and angle of polarisation.
It can be used to study the origin of cosmic rays in the
universe, the nature of black holes, and the role of black
holes in the evolution of galaxies, among others.
XSPECT (X-ray Spectroscopy and Timing) will offer fast
timing and excellent spectroscopic resolution in soft X-rays
in the range of 0.8-15 keV.
It is designed to observe a variety of sources. These
include X-ray pulsars, black hole binaries, low-magnetic
field neutron stars, active galactic nuclei , and magnetars.
The XPoSat spacecraft is designated
for observation from Low Earth Orbit
(non-sun synchronous orbit of ~650 km
altitude, low inclination of ~6 degree),
carrying two scientific payloads.

With a deviation of only 3km from

the targeted orbit and an inclination
of 001 degree, ISRO greeted the
World a Happy New Year !
