DUBDI MONESTRA

The Chogyar Namgyal


established the first
monastery known as the
Dubdi Monastery in 1701.
Established in 1701, it is
professed to be the oldest
monastery in Sikkim and
is located on the top of a
hill which is about an
hour's walk (3 kilometres
(1.9 mi)) from Yuksom.

second capital of the

Rice is a staple cereal in the food


and cuisine of Sikkim. Wheat,
buckwheat,barley and finger
millet are used in their local
diets.Meat is an important part of
their traditional diet.They use
many of the ingredients as we do
like onions, garlic, cumin,
chillies,how ever the cuisine
seems to call for a lighter touch
than that required to master the
bold , loud flavors of other
regional states.

Sel roti is a traditional


homemade ring-shaped rice
bread originating from Nepal
which is sweet in taste. It is
mostly prepared during
Dashain and Tihar, widely
celebrated Hindu festivals in
Nepal and Sikkim and
Darjeeling regions in India
where ethnic Nepalese
people have presence. It is
known as Shinghal in Kumaon.

leafy green vegetable and
a popular food in Nepal,
and it is claimed to be one
of the national dishes. It is

TEA

Sikkim tea is a variety of tea


grown in the state of Sikkim,
India. Though Sikkim tea is not
as widespread in use as the
neighboring Darjeeling tea, it
has recently gained more
recognition from the increasing
demand for organic products.
The tea is mostly sold under the
marketing name 'Temi tea'.
