Land Based Forestry Program, Forest Investment

Program-1 (FIP-1), West Kalimantan, Indonesia
The FIP-1 Project entitled: “Community Focused Investment to Address Deforestation and
Forest Degradation”, is a 5-years (2018-2023) grant project funded through the ADB, in
cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The Directorate General of Social
Forestry and Environmental Partnership (DG PSKL) is appointed as the Executing Agency. The
Project has two main outcomes, first is a 3.7 M ton of CO2e reduction by 2027, and the second
is a 20% increased of community income by 2023. The Project builds a strong cooperation with
the West Kalimantan Provincial government and with the REDD+ Working Group.

Implemented in Kapuas Hulu (12 villages) and Sintang (5 villages), the Project targets to
rehabilitate degraded forest of 1,880 Ha through agroforestry and 6,000 Ha through assisted
natural regeneration. The Project also provides direct protection from forest fire to a 5,000
Ha and indirect protection to a 91,000 Ha of forest and land within the Betung Kerihun
Danau Sentarum National Park. Additionally, the Project also facilitates establishment of at
least 17,000 Ha of Social Forestry Agreement, and 10,000 people having access to natural
resources.
